Doctors and nurses rushed to the scene, bolting into the room where Sherilyn lay.

Immediately, the doctor started administering oxygen and pressure to Sherilyn while instructing a nurse to give her an IV medication.

"Family members, please step outside! Don't interfere with the emergency procedures!"

Gilbert and Edgar were both ushered out of the room, each taking up a post at opposite corners.

The continuous beeping of the monitor seared through Gilbert's heart like it was on a grill, yet simultaneously, it felt as though he was drenched in ice water, sending shivers down his spine.

He was caught in a tormenting limbo of fire and ice...

Why?

Why did Sherilyn seem so averse to seeing him?

...

Twenty minutes later, the doctor emerged.

Gilbert and Edgar both straightened up, asking in unison, "How is she?"

"She's stable now."

The doctor explained, "It was an emotional overload that caused the issue. The patient is too weak to handle any stress right now. Visits are not allowed for the moment. You should all head home and come back tomorrow. Don't worry, our nurses will take good care of her."

"Thank you."

"Much appreciated."

As the doctor left, Gilbert and Edgar exchanged glances, both expressionless, yet neither showed any intention of leaving.

Edgar's phone rang, he glanced at it and decided not to answer.

"Hmph," Gilbert let out a barely audible scoff. "Family calling? Not leaving yet?"

Edgar met his gaze. "As long as you're here, I'm not leaving. I won't let you hurt Sherilyn again."

Despite the doctor's explicit instructions, what kind of man was Mr. Gilbert?

"!"

Gilbert's jaw tightened.

His phone buzzed this time, it was Francis.

Was it about Caroline's surgery ending? Gilbert swiped to answer. "Big brother."

"Caroline's out of the OR."

Gilbert hesitated for a moment, "I'll be right there."

After hanging up, Gilbert glanced at

the

the closed

I door of the hospital room, Edgar, and without a word, he was the first to leave.

Behind him, Edgar looked momentarily stunned.

He just left?

In his pocket, his phone rang again. Frowning, he answered, "Mom, yes... I'm on my way back."

After a glance at the hospital room door, Edgar pocketed his phone.

Since visiting was off-limits, he

decided

to head back and return first thing in the morning. Before leaving, he left his number at the nurses' station.

"If there's any change with Sherilyn in VIP9, please call me immediately."

"Will do."

"Thank you."

...

Caroline had been hit by a car, sustaining several injuries, none of them light, and she was yet to regain consciousness. After the surgery, she was moved directly to the ICU.

For Gilbert, this was another piece of devastating news, his already somber expression darkening further.

His fists clenched and trembled slightly, "Landen, Crane, Quin!"

These words, filled with deep-seated hatred, burst from his throat!

The events of the evening had been briefly relayed to Francis by Charles.

While Caroline's injuries weren't directly caused by Naylor, had it not been for Naylor's order to kidnap her...

Francis looked at his brother, Gilbert,

who was visibly distressed and in poor shape. With both Sherilyn and

Caroline severely injured in one night...

It was clear without asking how conflicted and guilty he felt.

"By the way," Francis paused, asking, "How's Sherilyn? Is she okay?"

Gilbert frowned, shaking his head slightly, "Not really..."

Recalling the scene of Sherilyn's emergency treatment only added to his heartache.

"This..."

Francis, sensing something was off, wondered, "How did the Easthaven Docks catch fire? Any news from the police?"
