Who Is My Husband -
Scene 59
“Wait? Why isn’t he a stag here? Isn’t that his original form?” Kailee danced backwards a few feet as she stared at the darkness peeking through the trees. It’s head slowly turned as its gaze focused in their direction. Though it was still hard to see behind the forest it was coming out of.
“Not now it isn’t…” Sparks said sadly. “Kailee please… you can’t fight him now. You must go. Run!”
Kailee glanced back at the two dragons. If she stayed, they wouldn’t leave her. She couldn’t involve them in their condition. “Okay let’s get out of here.”
Kailee turned and started running. Her hooves dug into the ground pushing her forward. As the dragons took to the sky. She felt herself being gripped and then lifted into the air.
“Sorry princess. But no matter how fast you are on the ground you can never be faster than us in the sky.” Reggie lifted the unicorn upwards and flapped his wings. He wanted to put as much distance between them and Bane as possible. Fortunately, the dark creature appeared to be slow and lost interest in them as they pulled away.
“He will look for easier prey. Even in this world he seeks out energy to devour…” Sparks white orb flowed beside Kailee.
“So… a unicorn huh?” Grum looked over at Kailee as he flew beside them. “Sorry for growling at you. I figured it had to be some illusion created by a demon.”
“I’ve always wondered how powerful unicorns actually were. Hard to believe a horse with a horn would be a tough opponent…” Reggie said as he glanced down at Kailee in his claws.
Sparks laughed. “She won’t beat you in an arm-wrestling competition but could easily best you in battle.”
“Good thing she is on our side then, huh?” Reggie looked up as they neared Clover Estate. He could see a familiar group of men sitting around as they approached.
Kailee watched as the men below started to come into view. Reggie lowered her onto the ground and the two dragons stood beside her.
“Oh, look how precious Lance is holding you to his chest, Grum.” Reggie teased.
“Nothing like the snuggles you are getting from Will.” Grum retorted back.
“You look like shit.” Reggie looked at Grum’s grey face before he trailed to his own.
Grum chuckled. “We both do…” The red dragon took a small step closer and looked over at everyone.
“You looked worse before.” Kailee said as she looked at Grum and Reggie’s human bodies. “You don’t have the black stuff crawling on your face anymore.” The wind blew, tossing her mane and tail to the side.
“So how do we go back?” Reggie asked as he lifted his head up looking around for potential danger.
A large insect the size of a horse flew above them in the sky. It hovered back and forth and then flew a bit farther towards the tree line. They watched as an enormous frog leapt from the trees swallowing the bug whole. The frog was bigger than the dragons were.
“I don’t think I will ever look at frogs the same after this.” Grum chuckled nervously.
“What? You can’t imagine sinking your teeth in those fried frog legs?” Reggie chuckled; it was a deep throaty sound that came from his dragon. Then the frog turned slightly and looked directly at the two dragons. Reggie soon quit laughing as the frog hopped once in their direction. “Hey, haven’t you ever heard of your eyes being bigger than your stomach? I’m a dragon, not a dragonfly. Move along frog.”
Grum growled at the frog who was deciding if he could fit the dragons in his mouth or not. His tongue flipped out and over his eye and back into his mouth. He seemed to be sizing them up. He hopped towards them once more and both of the dragons stiffened their stature and began to prepare themselves.
Kailee slowly walked in front of the dragons with Sparks hovering over top of her. She stopped just in front of them and stood still watching the frog. The frog moved his head to the side so that he could get a better view of her.
“Kailee… this creature doesn’t abide by worldly order. It will not view you any differently here. Prepare yourself.” Sparks hovered side to side as he spoke to Kailee.
The frog whipped his tongue out in the direction of Kailee. At the same time a bright glow illuminated from the unicorn’s horn. Kailee reared herself upwards as the light shot out towards the frog. The frog was enveloped in a large bubble where it was trapped.
“That should hold it until we get out of here.” Kailee turned around to see the two awe struck dragons looking at her. “I figured that was better than fighting… right?”
Reggie chuckled and nodded his head. “I’m just glad you are on our side. Hey… I was just thinking… you are stronger than Trey. Never thought I would ever see the day when the princess is stronger than the prince… And I am going to prepare myself a feast of frog legs now. That will make me feel better.” Reggie eyed up the captured frog in irritation. He was a dragon and a frog had looked at him as if he were food.
Kailee giggled and tilted her head up to Sparks. “How do we return now?”
“You’ll have to help Grum and Reggie return first. Now that you have their bodies and spirits in the same place you should be able to will it with your magic. Start with one and then move to the other.” Sparks glowing light stayed hovering by Kailee’s side.
“Okay… I’ll start with Grum.”
“Okay but whatever you do, don’t put me in Reggie’s body. I’d never be able to live with myself if you do that.” Grum listened as Reggie scoffed at him.
“Please, she would be doing you a favor if she did that.” Reggie snorted out a puff of smoke through his nostrils.
“Shhh. Let me concentrate.” Kailee spat out to the two dragons who immediately went silent. Kailee looked over at Grum’s body and thought about what she wanted to do and what she was trying to accomplish. She visualized Grum’s spirit and body merging together. She felt the connection forming as two parts became whole.
“Look, you did it Kailee.” Reggie said once Grum’s dragon vanished. He looked over at Grum’s body that began to slowly twitch. Color started pouring into his face again.
“Okay… you next.” Kailee said feeling relieved that what she did worked. She also had more confidence now to do the same thing with Reggie. It was easier this time and she was able to accomplish the link of Reggie back to his body quickly.
“Okay now to send you back.” Kailee said, turning to Sparks.
“I can send myself back. Go ahead. I’ll return after I see you made it back. Do what you did to them to yourself. The more you do something the faster and easier it will be for you to do again.”
“Thank you for your help, Sparks.” Kailee stopped and looked over herself. She gave a mental goodbye to her unicorn form before she merged her spirit with her body. She blinked her eyes. She was back in her body and being held in Trey’s arms. She stirred a bit and sat up.
“Kailee.” Trey said with a breath of relief.
She smiled at him and looked over at Reggie and Grum who were also opening their eyes. To her side she could see Sparks had also regained his composure. She did it. Everyone made it back safely.
“What was it like there?” Lance asked
“Ugh, pretty crazy.” Reggie said as he shifted himself up. He pushed Will slightly. “I’m alright now. I can regulate my own body heat.”
“I thought you always said you enjoy having company and warm snuggles?” Will said with a crooked grin.
Reggie growled at him. “I don’t want them from you.” He watched as Grum sat up as well. “You wouldn’t believe it. We were being looked at by a frog as dinner. This frog was bigger than our dragon forms.”
“Lucky for us Kailee saved us.” Grum chuckled. “You should have seen her. She was beautiful. I never thought I would ever see someone like her. I didn’t even believe it was her when I saw her.”
“No, you didn’t. You growled at me actually.” Kailee furrowed her brows down at Grum.
“Wait? Why would he growl at you?” Trey flipped his eyes up to Grum.
“Because in the spirit world you take your true form. They were dragons and I was a unicorn.” Kailee watched Trey nodding his head in understanding.
“Trey, told us all about you Kailee. I bet you are happy to finally know the truth about yourself.” Lance watched a smile spread across Kailee’s face.
“Yes. It is nice to finally know the truth.”
Kailee. Sparks said gently. I will be heading back to the forest. I need to discuss with them about seeing Bane loose in the spirit world. This is a sign that he is starting to wake up. Kailee nodded her head to the phoenix who quickly took off into the sky. His orange hue became smaller as he flew into the darkness.
“Wait, you saw Bane there?” Trey asked.
“Yes, we did. Just a glimpse but we ran away from him.” Grum answered.
Trey looked up at Grum and Reggie. A look saying they would talk about it later. He wrapped his arms tighter around Kailee and inhaled her sweet scent. “I was so worried. Next time I’m coming with you no matter what. I don’t want to be in a different world or realm than you. Ever.” He lowered his head into her neck and nuzzled his nose into her.
Just then Kailee’s stomach grumbled in a very protesting noise. Her cheeks heated with embarrassment as she heard the quieted chuckles around her. She bit her bottom l*p. “Well I didn’t get to eat at the party… and because of you guys feeding me regularly my body now demands it.”
Trey smoothed her hair behind her ear and kissed the side of her head. “That’s right. I insist you eat regularly. You need to keep up your strength so you have the stamina for me.”
Kailee felt her face get hot. He said that in front of the other four guys and she knew with their hearing they knew what he said.
“Well, I’m starving too.” Reggie said as he struggled to his feet. He didn’t realize how weak his body was after having the poison in him. Will grabbed ahold of Reggie’s arm and held him steady.
“Phill go and fetch a couple of horses.” Trey said. “You two are in no condition to walk right now. I don’t know how long it will take for you to fully recover after something like that.”
“I can walk. I don’t need a horse.” Reggie growled.
“It’s either you ride the horse, or you can be a princess and let Will carry you back.” Trey smirked as Reggie’s face paled.
“I’ll take the horse.” Reggie said with a huff then a clever smile rose on his lips. “Are you offering I take your horse for a ride?” He grinned widely as he winked at Kailee.
Trey looked at Reggie and let out a low growl. “Easy on those jokes Reg… or you may have to experience being on your deathbed again.”
“How does it feel Trey?” Reggie continued to grin. “How does it feel to have your mate stronger than you?”
Trey chuckled and pulled Kailee to her feet and into his chest. “None of that matters to me at all. I just hope that I am someone worthy of her.”
Kailee looked up at Trey and shook her head. “Don’t be silly. Why wouldn’t you be? I’d like to think we are worthy of each other. Why is it just you being worthy of me? No matter what we are, it doesn’t change who we are on the inside.”
Trey cupped her cheeks in his hands. “Yes, that can be true for us. But not everyone else. Others will view you as a prize and want to keep you for themselves. It is because of this that I am debating what I want to do. Deep down I want to continue to keep your identity a secret to as many as possible. I’m afraid of those who will want to try to claim you… and of course, I can’t allow anyone to touch what is mine.” He moved his head forward and lowered his lips onto hers.
He gently suckled on her lips, kissing her tenderly. He knew that if word got out about her being a unicorn that there would be some who would try to claim her for themselves. He would need to speak with Alistair and see what he thought they should do about this situation. He knew he would surely have thought about it as well. Kailee could unite and divide the kingdom. She was in a way a double-edged sword that needed to be handled delicately. He slowly pulled away from her and gazed down at her in adoration. It never mattered to him who she was. She was his mate and the woman he loved. And at night… she was a woman, and he was a man. That was the only thing that mattered. It only mattered that they were two hearts that at times often beat as one.
