“How is my son doing?” Richard asked as one of the soldiers came in to report on the situation. Edith was at his side holding onto his hand safe within the inner castle.

“How is my son doing?” Richard asked as one of the soldiers came in to report on the situation. Edith was at his side holding onto his hand safe within the inner castle.

“Your son is fine my lord. Actually, he remains unharmed and has shot out a strange power that wiped out a large portion of the creatures. He is amazing, I’ve never seen a dragon with powers like that.” The soldier bowed and then promptly returned to his post.

Richard turned and looked at Edith. “That is not our son’s powers.”

“No… the power they are witnessing is from Kailee.” Edith looked back at Richard.

He shook his head as he tried to think about Kailee. “What in the world is she to have such power? She isn’t just a magic wielder.”

“Our son is keeping secrets from us it seems.” Edith interlaced her fingers with Richard and smiled. “He has a strong bond to her, doesn’t he?”

Richard smiled and nodded. “Yes.” He gazed at Edith. “You need to have a strong unbreakable bond in our position. Your mate needs to be someone that you can trust unconditionally no matter what. The one person you never doubt.”

“I wasn’t sure at first, but I can finally relax. He has found that. The two of them together are natural leaders. Even Kailee has a commanding presence about her. And the way those two look at one another…” Edith squeezed Richards hand. “You can feel the connection they both have. I think they have an unbreakable bond.”

“Once he moves back here for good, we can hand the kingdom over to him and finally step down.” Richard leaned his head back slightly.

“Yes. We will wait around for those grand babies of ours to come so we can spoil them to death.” Edith’s eyes widened in excitement. She looked ahead and frowned slightly. “Everything is going to be okay, isn’t it?”

“Don’t worry. If Bane gets released, we will figure it out. We aren’t going to lose our future.” Richard’s face turned serious as he looked ahead as well. They had worked so hard to create a peaceful world. No matter how peaceful things were Bane was always the shadow that crept along in the sun with them. In order for true everlasting peace to be seized something would need to be done about Bane. But the question was what? Unicorns didn’t exist anymore, and they were the only creature strong enough to take him out. If Bane ended up in this world again… it would be devastating.

Edith nodded her head as she drifted deep in thought over Kailee. For Sorsha to abandon her so easily for Kailee had her thinking they have to be a connection between them. And there was only one connection that she kept drifting to. It was impossible. But it was the only logical one. She needed to think about it more. However, she was beginning to think Kailee was way more special than they ever could have imagined.

The creatures were b***d thirsty killers. They fought like demons possessed. The dragons were tired and wounded, yet still they fought. One of the creatures sank his teeth into Reggie’s tail. He whipped his tail hard sending the creature flying while another dove towards his neck. The creatures attacked like a fine-tuned pack making sure that the dragons had to constantly fight off assaults.

The tar like salamanders shot black energy from their mouths and no matter what the dragons did they couldn’t deflect them. All they could do was continue to try to dodge them or get hit. A salamander lunged towards Reggie, and he used his wings to lift himself in the air. Then he quickly dove into the creature, digging his claws and teeth into it. Dark liquid pour from its body onto the ground. But while he was busy killing one salamander another one shot its dark energy towards Reggie. There was nothing he could do but prepare for impact.

One moment Reggie was bracing himself for the impact the next moment a dragon emerged from the shadows. From the shade in front of him, a dark shadow emerged and was able to slap the black energy away with her tail (something they were not able to do). The dark dragon turned, and its eyes met with his. ‘Mate’. She was his mate. It was only for a second, but it felt like the earth stilled in that moment.

Then she lunged towards the dark creature sinking her fangs into its tar like neck. Black liquid gushed from the creature’s body and onto the ground. The fluid dripped from her fangs as she dropped the lifeless creature from her hold.

Sorsha turned her gaze from her mate to search for Trey, the black dragon from earlier. When she saw the orange dragon fighting, she just reacted. She was able to move into shadows that are in her line of vision, so she focused on the one right in front of him. She just managed to get there in time to prevent the attack from hitting him.

She looked at the black dragon who was unharmed unlike all the other dragons. All thanks to Kailee she assumed. She jumped through the shadows over to his side.

“Kailee said just to hold out a little bit longer she will be here soon. There was another tear on the other side of the city. And then she ran into a few members of the order.”

“WHAT?!” Trey snarled and lifted his head to look back to the city.

“They can’t be killed. They have connected their lives to Bane. She will seal them.” She watched as his dragon turned a dark gaze on her as he eyed her suspiciously. “I know about her… I know what she is, and she will be fine.” She could see his conflicted posture. He wanted to go to his mate. “Your people need you here.”

Trey growled and clamped his teeth together tightly. He couldn’t leave in the middle of the battle here. The dragons were only barely managing themselves. If he left, they could easily get over run. He looked at the strange dragon for a second. But a second was all he had as more salamanders began to make their way towards them.

Sorsha took a protective stance in front of Trey. “It is best you don’t get injured, so it doesn’t distract Kailee.” An orange dragon moved closer to her side also taking a protective stance in front of Trey. She watched as he tilted his head to the side to look at her. It was clear he wanted to talk to her. She wanted to talk with him too. Of all times to replace your mate it was right in the middle of a battle.

A black salamander charged towards Sorsha, but Reggie immediately intercepted it. She mentally rolled her eyes. He didn’t even know her but because of the pull he was already protecting her. At the same time, she felt a lightness and happiness deep inside of her.

Trey took a step back so that he could look over the fight. The dragons were starting to wear down as more and more fresh creatures came into the fight. Where were they all coming from? It was as if this tear happened right over these strange creature’s pack. They were very aggressive and just kept coming. The fact they were immune to fire made Trey think this was not just a coincidence. And now knowing the Order was involved had him thinking that these exact creatures were planned.

He looked over at Grum and Lance who were fighting side by side. They both were dripping with b***d and Lance looked tired. Grum however seemed to be in his element. He was fighting with enthusiasm and kept lashing into the creatures. He had a fighting spirit. What his family called b***d l**t was not how Trey saw it. He saw someone who could channel his fighting determination into being someone who was a dedicated warrior.

Trey shifted to the side as he noticed more of the creatures coming out of the tear. They wouldn’t be able to hold out much longer. As strong as they were the salamanders had numbers on their side and they were immune to their fire. He was surprised as he watched the black shadowy dragon fight. She was able to deflect the black orbs of energy that were being hurled her direction. But what shocked him the most was how Reggie was fighting protectively next to her. At first, he thought he was there for him. But he could see how Reggie was watching her. And his fighting posture was more protective for her.

Then she lunged towards the dark creature sinking her fangs into its tar like neck. Black liquid gushed from the creature’s body and onto the ground. The fluid dripped from her fangs as she dropped the lifeless creature from her hold.

He recognized the protective glances Reggie was giving her. Because he also had those same eyes for Kailee. Trey looked back at the dragon next to Reggie. He knew nothing about her but if she was his mate, he hoped she was someone who would be good for him.

Trey moved forward as the fresh pack of salamander creatures closed in. He would hold this line or die trying. Retreat was not an option. A bellow was heard in the sky from an approaching dragon. He glanced up to see a familiar silver dragon lowering in front of him, Reggie and the other dark dragon. He felt immediate relief when he saw Kailee hop off of Bethany unharmed.

_

Kailee couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the creatures attacking the dragons. It was nothing but those creatures coming through the tear. Her eyes scanned the ground fervently until they found Trey. “Bethany land in front of them.”

Sparks flew next to Kailee’s side as they began to lower to the ground. Those are Salatars Kailee. Creatures that are impervious to the flame. They are also extremely protective of their pack. For them to be attacking like this the tear was made right in their den. That is why they are aggressively attacking like they are.

“So, they are just protecting their home like the dragons are protecting theirs.” Kailee couldn’t feel as angry at the creatures after hearing this. It wasn’t their fault either.

She slid off of Bethany and took a step forward. The Salatars froze in place as she walked forward. All the way down the line they immediately stopped fighting and turned to look at her.

“Your pack is safe. Return to it now.” Kailee could see the creatures listening to her words. Then slowly they each backed up and made their way back to the tear. They obediently went through one by one. And when the last one disappeared through the rip, she sealed the tear.

She felt Trey’s presence as he walked up behind her. She turned and smiled up at him as their eyes met. They were both relieved to be near each other once again. But the relief was short lived. A loud screech was heard in the distance one that sent a chill down Kailee’s spine. Sparks flapped his wings in a panic as his red embers scattered in the air.

It’s Bane! His spirit is wandering in our world.

Trey and Kailee’s eyes widened as they turned to look at the phoenix.

“Can we send him back?” Trey asked.

Bane will not obediently go back. His spirit now goes to his tomb to join with his body. Kailee needs to go to his tomb. She will have to defeat him. There is no other choice now. Sparks landed on the ground and looked up at Kailee.

“With Bane gone the Order will also be gone.” She looked at Trey. “The Order has connected their life force with Bane. Killing him will destroy everyone in the Order. Including Jane and my uncle who I have sealed at the edge of the town.”

Trey shifted back to his human form and pulled Kailee into his arms. He held her head into his chest as his fingers combed through her hair. The day that he had planned to prevent had finally come. Now there was no choice but to fight against Bane. His instincts screamed at him to hide and protect Kailee. But she was the only one who could save the world now. However, she wouldn’t do it alone. He would stay by her side. He squeezed her body into his and looked over at Sparks.

“How long do we have before his spirit reaches his body?”
