Why My Mate Cries -
Chapter 46
ALIYAH’S POV
The three of us sat on the bed. Ellie and Dustin were both uncomfortable and could only give me a secret glare knowing Reid was only on the other bed and watching us in silence.
“I want to understand why do you keep disrespecting your pack mates,” I started as I stared at both of them carefully.
Ellie rolled her eyes. She nudged her twin brother before she crossed her arms against her chest, seemingly not interested in talking to me so she wanted Dustin to do it for both of them.
“Why do you care? Didn’t we already make it clear that we don’t like you?” Dustin hissed.
I heard Reid growling from the other bed. I took a quick glance at him, and nodded to assure him that I could do this on my own.
“I do care because I feel like you’re just letting all your chances to live a great life lose by fighting against everyone in here.” I sighed a bit and continued. “You see, every people here wanted to get along with you. But you’re not giving us a chance….”
“That’s because you’re going to hurt us anyway. The same thing like what our father did when he left the pack,” Ellie replied bitterly.
Her words made me surprised. Were they acting this way all this time because of their father? My forehead creased. As I looked at Ellie, I couldn’t deny that something in her eyes were telling me that she was hurting.
“I am sorry to hear that, Ellie.” I bit my lower l*p and tried to hold her hand but she slapped my hand right away.
“Don’t touch me!” she snorted.
“I’m sorry if I did that, Ellie,” I said and gave her a thin smile. “But I’ve been meaning to tell you that we just want to help the both of you. You guys are lucky that you have a responsible Alpha who is kind enough to care about your well being. I didn’t get the chance to experience such a concern when I was still living in my previous pack.”
Dustin looked at me as if he was interested to hear something about my past, and so I continued, “I am an Alpha’s daughter. But unlike the both you, I struggled for most of my life. I was enslaved by my own family, starved and beaten to their satisfaction because they simply hated my existence. I was your age when I experience severe punishments that almost killed me.” I breathed in heavily and then swallowed hard. “Dustin, Ellie, you are fortunate that your Alpha Reid wasn’t someone as cruel and terrifying as my own father.”
“Liar,” Ellie commented in grim. “Do you think we’re going to buy that story? You just made it up!”
I frowned and was encouraged to make them realize that I was telling the truth, and so I stood up and motioned for them to look at my physique.
“My body is the constant reminder of my traumatic past. This was caused by the Alphas of my previous pack…” I managed a shaky smile, and then I sighed. “I had a difficult teenage life, and I don’t want the both of you to experience it. That’s why I want to beg you not to disrespect your pack mates anymore. Not anyone is kind enough to show their concerns about you. Alpha Reid is doing the best he could so that you’ll grown into somebody who would always do the right thing, and so once you meet your mates and you get to have your own families, your children wouldn’t walk in the wrong path. I know for sure that you do want to have a good life, isn’t that correct?”
They both glanced at each other. At the time, I could see the guilt behind their eyes, like my story finally reached their hearts and they believed me.
I mustered the courage to hold their hands. When they didn’t flinch, I squeezed their hands tight. Giving them a sincere smile, I couldn’t help but become emotional after bringing up my past with them.
The traumatic years I’ve endured was something I no longer want to remember . . . I didn’t want to replay those painful memories as it would only make me question my existence, and ask the Moon Goddess whether she hated me or she just wanted me to become her laughing stock. All the more reason why I trained my mind not to recall the saddest part of my life.
“F—Fine…” Ellie bit her lower l*p and looked up at me. “Do you think we can still redeem ourselves after everything we did?”
My heart sank in happiness when I saw the sincerity in her eyes. I caressed the side of her jaw, and then nodded at her.
“Of course, Ellie,” I replied and also glanced at Dustin. “Both of you are still young and regardless of age, anyone of us have the privilege to change for the better, to become a better version of ourselves as we go through this life.”
“We believe you,” Dustin told me.
I was astounded to hear it from him. My eyes went teary, and before I even realized it, I hugged them together. While I was doing so, my eyes landed in Reid’s direction, and I felt giddy when he flashed his proud smile at me.
After having a serious conversation with the twins, Klaus accompanied them to the main kitchen so they could have their breakfast before they go to school. Me and Reid were left in the room, and as soon as he walked up to me, my body felt weaker, to the point that I fell into his arm.
“Aliyah, are you alright?”
“I feel a bit dizzy…” I replied, shutting my eyes as I breathed sharply.
Reid went into panic and immediately scooped me up. He carried me into his arms and we walked to our private haven in the pack house. He put me on the bed and covered my body with a blanket.
“You need to rest more,” he said as he stroke my hair gently. “Do you feel any pain in your body?”
I shook my head and moved closer to him. Wrapping my arm around his waist, I felt more secure and warm.
“That’s relief.” He tucked my hair behind my ear and then pulled me in a hug. “Tell me if you feel any pain. I will call Charlotte right away, got that?”
“Yes, I will. Don’t worry, I just need some rest.”
“You better be resting more, Aliyah…” He inhaled sharply and I heard him clear his throat. “Your condition is crucial. It’s better if you stay in this room and just relax.”
My brows furrowed at what he said. I looked up at him. My heart was pounding aggressively when I asked, “My condition is crucial?”
The thought of it made me feel the goose bumps all over my body, and the dreadful feeling made my chest tighten in an instance.
Reid pressed his lips together as he looked at me carefully. He then nodded his head, and I could have sworn I felt a pang of pain in my heart.
“A—Am I going to die?” I asked as I tried to sit upright, completely taken by the fear.
“N—No, you’re not, Aliyah.”
“Then what? You said my condition is crucial!”
His jaw clenched. I watched him licking his lower l*p as I waited for him to answer.
“You’re pregnant, Aliyah….”
