Chapter 66

She winced as he bit down on her collarbone, the pain eliciting an involuntary whimper from

her.

“Daddy…” Just then, the bedroom door creaked open.

Brian, who had been pressing down on Natalie, froze in his movements. He paused, turning his head to look at the doorway.

“Daddy, why are you guys… fighting?” Nate rubbed the sleep from his eyes, leaning against the door frame, puzzled as he gazed at the two.

“Natalie seems to be hurt!” He frowned, adding another line of concern.

He couldn’t bear to see Natalie in discomfort. It even seemed like she had been crying.

As he spoke, he walked toward them.

Brian silently cursed under his breath, grabbing a blanket and swiftly covering Natalie’s body beneath him. He stood up, fastening his belt with quick efficiency.

“We’re not fighting.” he said, taking a deep breath to contain his anger, his voice low and steady.

If the kid weren’t his flesh and blood, he’d be tempted to toss him out the window!

Natalie’s clothes were beyond saving. She turned her face away and quickly wrapped herself in the blanket, composing herself before sitting up on the couch. The kid was probably still oblivious to adult matters. She reassured herself that it would likely be easy to placate.

Nate, standing on his tiptoes, tried to

like a sack of potatoes and deposited him back in his room.

But Nate clambered out of bed again, hands on hips, glaring at Brian. “You can’t hit her!”

Brian sent him a deadly glare.

“I mean it!” Nate’s little face turned red with defiance. Nate had just managed to get on Natalie’s good side. If she got mad and kicked them both out, they’d be done for!

Natalie sat outside for a while, listening to Brian and Nate bickering inside. One was a little kid who couldn’t finish a sentence, the other was a father who wasn’t afraid to speak his mind..

“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re plotting, kiddo!” Brian glared at Nate, his voice stern. “One more word, and I’m sending you back to Grandpa’s!”

Nate immediately clamped his mouth shut.

Wrapped in a blanket, Natalie walked back in, sighed, and told Brian, “You should leave. I’ve got. an early call time tomorrow, and I’m exhausted. You’ll take Nate back in the morning. I’ll be

sleeping on set from now on.”

“What?”

“Tomorrow?” Nate and Brian echoed each other in surprise.

Brian’s face turned ashen. “Why didn’t you say so before?”

“Ask your dear Madelyn,” Natalle said with a wry smile. “The shooting schedule clashed with her event, so they had to change the press conference and call times.” With that, she grabbed some clothes from the wardrobe and retreated to the bathroom for a shower.

Nate was dumbfounded, but Brian was seething inside..

“Happy now?” After a long silence, Brian turned back, his tone edged with irritation.

Nate pouted helplessly. His father was someone picking on the softer target.

The next day. Natalie arrived at the Film Studio with dark circles under her eyes, nearly the last one on set. Rosie was frantic, exclaiming as soon as she saw her, “My dear, I thought you weren’t going to make it! The opening ceremony is about to start!”
