Aman walked toward the runaway. He had an intimidating aura as he walked toward Maia and took out a black handkerchief toclean the residue from her forehead.

“It's swelling.” He looked at her gently, but his tone was upset.Moments later, Baz came into the hall with a group of security guards and restrained the woman who threw the egg at Maia.

“Unhand me! She was brave enough to commit murder, so why is she so scared of hearing what people are saying? We're notallow to even ask for justice for Zera, just because Mr. Cedric is protecting Maia Burgess!” The woman continued to struggleagainst Baz as she yelled.

The woman had managed to ignite a storm of anger in the once silence hall. The organizers had also rushed over to check onthe situation. They were shocked as something this controversial had never happened in the history of the fashion show.

The organizers immediately apologized to Cedric, but Cedric only turned to them and asked for a microphone.

The person-in—charge was taken aback for a second before instructing his staff to bring over a microphone and passed it toCedric.

Moments later, Cedric’s voice echoed through the hall, “The police have already cleared Maia of all charges as she was still inacoma when Zera Larkin was found dead. In other words, she is innocent.”

This statement caused a commotion in the hall. Upper—class society was complicated. Even so, the highly esteemed Cedric hadjust publicly defended the woman he loves without a second thought.

“If she didn’t do it, then why would she so eagerly remove any sort of news about her? Isn’t that an admission of guilt? Even ifshe didn’t do it personally, who could guarantee that she didn’t pay someone to do it?”

“| was the one who ordered news about her to be removed.” Cedric eyed the woman who questioned him dangerously as hereplied coldly.

Everyone inside the hall were surprised. Cedric must really love Maia if he could go that far for

his ex-wife!

At that moment, Maia walked toward the woman who was still restrained by Baz and slapped

her on the cheek.

Chaos immediately broke out as the crowd had not expected Maia to publicly assault others.

“This is payback for the injury you gave me on my forehead.” Maia said and raised her hand to give her another slap.“This is for the groundless accusations you just threw at me.”

The woman struggled against the iron grip restraining her as she glared daggers at Maia. She had even tried to lift her legs tokick Maia but it was impossible as her evening gown was too tight.

Maia looked at the woman’s pathetic appearance and grabbed her face. “I don’t care who you are or how much you have upyour sleeves. You should have expected this the moment you chose to touch me. | give as hard as | get!”

The woman was shocked as she could not even utter a word while looking at Maia in horror. Cedric came up to Maia, took herhand in his and asked, “Is your hand okay?”

He gave no attention to the others in the room as he continued to give her hand a light squeeze when he noticed that her palmwas slightly red from the impact.

Maia was annoyed at his actions and tried to struggle out of his grip, but the next thing he said surprised her.

“Listen carefully! If anyone dares to soil her reputation, I'll make you pay!” Cedric looked around the room with a terrifying gazeas he gave his warning.

This was far more effective than what Maia had done as everyone gasped in fear.

Cedric did not waste a minute staying as he immediately lifted Maia and carried her toward the guest rooms provided by theevent.

When Maia finally composed herself, she was already in his arms. She turned to study him closely as her mind was flooded withconflicting thoughts. Gratitude, hatred, love. She could only smile as she tried to comprehend all the complex emotions she wasfeeling.

When they left, the atmosphere in the hall recovered to its original state. However, people were still talking about what had justhappened.

“Mr. Cedric was really scary. I’ve heard rumors that he could not forget Maia, and it appears they’re true! I've never seen adivorced couple act like this!”

“I've just checked online, the police had released an official statement stating Maia’s innocence.”

“| felt like we've all been played. Someone had tried to lead the public into believing that Maia Burgess was the prime suspect inthe Zera Larkin case.”

“Yeah, looks like someone is trying to frame her. Does that mean that Ms. Rita’s statement was just an impulsive thing? Perhapsshe didn’t mean it.”

“Probably? Don’t you think the woman who was causing problems looked like one of Ms. Rita’s relatives?”

“Now that you mention it, | think she may be a distant relative.”

“Now, this is getting interesting.”

Everyone knew exactly who she was. There was always drama going on in upper-class society

and it would always attract lots of attention, just as it did today.

After catching what some of the crowd were saying, Baz immediately approached the restrained woman and asked, “Are you arelative of Ms. Rita’s?”

“Why should | tell a bodyguard like you?” She replied arrogantly.Baz just shook his head at her stupidity, “You’re right. Most people in this social hierarchy would not be an airhead like you.”“How dare you? Who are you calling an airhead?”

“Ms. Maia did not match the suspect profile released by the police. Why else would they let her walk if she did? Yet, you’re hereaccusing her of the crime. Do you think everyone is as dumb as you are?”

The woman was rendered speechless as she continued to struggle against the bodyguards.
