Chapter 143 Are You Running From Me?

“Maia, why don’t you stay for dinner? Mr. Larkin told me to inform the chef to prepare your favorite dishes. It would be a shame ifyou left without trying them.”

Fernando was somewhat of a scourge. He could not bear to see food going to waste.

“Maia, if you don’t stay for dinner, then I'll starve myself starting tomorrow!” Hans said while he limped toward the living room. Hisback gave off a sad aura.

“I'm glad that you're willing to give up on desserts!”Hans froze on the spot when he heard what Maia had said.“Fine, | won't eat desserts. She’s not staying for dinner either way. Maia doesn’t love her grandfather anymore.”

Maia felt sad as she heard Hans complaining. This was not what she had wanted. She knew that Hans had been excited to seeher.

Cedric lowered his head and whispered into her ears, “So, are you running away from me?”

Maia glared daggers at Cedric as she debated internally. She was not going to admit that he was the cause of her wanting toleave. Moments later, she finally relented.

“Grandpa, cheer up! I'll stay for dinner!”

Hans finally broke into a smile as he heard her reply. Maia felt her mood brightening up the

moment she saw this.

She turned back to Cedric and whispered coldly, “The reason I’m staying here is solely because

of him.”

Though her words cut like a knife, it did not matter as long as she was willing to stay and have

a meal with him.

“Grandpa, you should be careful when you walk.” Maia quickly extended her hands to prevent him for jumping about.

Hans was so glad that Maia was willing to stay that he threw his walking stick aside and clapped like a child. Fernando rushedforward to pick it up before reminding him again to be

careful.

“I'm just delighted that Maia is here to have dinner with me! | haven’t seen her in a year. | was worried that she would only haveCedric on her mind and forget all about me!”

Maia frowned when she heard that. She looked at Cedric and asked in a whisper, “You didn’t tell him that we're divorced?”

Even if he had tried to hide the fact that they were divorced, Hans would have gotten the news from some other parties as it wasconsidered huge news in Prismara.

“Grandpa has been suffering from memory loss after he was discharged from the hospital.” “By memory loss you mean thatsometimes he remembers things and sometimes he doesn’t?” “That's not all. The doctor also said that he shouldn't be overlyemotional.”

“Is this a side effect from his illness years ago?” Maia asked with concern. She had not expected this to happen to Hans after hewas hospitalized.

Cedric nodded in reply. Maia was saddened by this news. She knew something was not right when she had first arrived atBeverley Manor. Hans had welcomed her while using a walking stick to support himself.

She thought that the illness years ago had only affected him physically. Unfortunately, it had also affected his mind.

Hans had treated her as if she was his granddaughter. Just thinking about his deteriorating health pained her. She could not helpbut to tear up as she asked if there was anything the doctors could do to help him.

“There’s nothing more they could do. Sometimes, he would even forget his own name.”

Maia immediately trudged to Hans and held onto his arm affectionately, “Grandpa, why don’t | bake some cookies for you? These cookies aren’t as sweet but I’m sure you'll like them just the same.
