Chapter 868 Meddlesome

The business world was akin to a ruthless jungle, teeming with predators. Any sign of weakness or injury, and the hungry wolves around you would pounce.

Reports like these were likely in the hands of every firm now, each one eager to exploit the Cloudex Corporation's vulnerability, once the king of the corporate savannah.

William felt a twinge of satisfaction. No other company had a report as genuine and detailed as the one Emelie had possessed.

That was because he had personally fine-tuned it. As the Chairman and CEO of the Cloudex Corporation, he had taken it upon himself to make those revisions.

He wasn't granting Emelie a favor; he was giving her a direct pass.

He picked up a pen and began combing through the document. He methodically circled biased sections, corrected inaccuracies, and added on confidential details known only to a few.

After he wrote his final word, William glanced at the clock. It was 2:30 am.

Suddenly, a coughing fit seized him. He grabbed a tissue to cover his mouth and glanced back at the door to the inner room. He anticipated another spasm, so he gathered some documents and quickly exited the office.

Once he was sure that the distance and the closed doors would keep Emelie undisturbed, he let himself cough freely. He slumped on the couch in the waiting area, his body wracked by the fit.

When the coughing subsided, his face was pale, his expression devoid of emotions. It looked almost indifferent, as though this frail body didn't belong to him.

He reached for a bottle of unopened sparkling water from the table, twisted off the cap, and took a sip. Then, he brushed off the discomfort and turned his attention back to the documents, beginning to review them for Emelie.

Emelie woke up to replace it was already 9:00 am. Maybe it was the workout that had left her sleeping more soundly than usual.

She sat up, glanced around, and noticed that everything was clean and orderly. There was no sign of anyone having been there, no traces remained.

She wasn't particularly bothered by it and got out of bed. She headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

What had been a chaotic mess the night before was now spotless.

"Had William cleaned it up? Was he now quite the domestic expert?" Emelie wondered.

She noticed a note on the bathroom mirror: "I ordered breakfast for you. It'll be here at 9:30 am. Don't skip it."

What a meddlesome gesture.

Emelie finished her morning routine and emerged from the inner room just as it reached 9:30 am.

Outside, the office was already bustling as employees took their places, settling in for the day.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"Ma'am, the restaurant is here with your breakfast. They mentioned it was ordered by you," Jodie announced.

Emelie, her lips pressed into a thin line and replied, "Yes, bring it in."

"Certainly," Jodie said.

As Jodie wheeled in the breakfast, Emelie walked over to her desk. She noticed that the files had been carefully organized. She opened the top most file and found that it had been reviewed and marked.

While business practices vary from one company to another, William's extensive investments across industries

had given him a broad base of knowledge. It seemed he had taken the time to apply it here, covering all the details. The documents on her luxury goods division had been meticulously reviewed, all marked up with notes. All Emelie had to do was skim through them and add a few finishing touches.

At the bottom of the stack lay the Cloudex Corporation's financial report, detailed and comprehensive.

She stared at the report, wondering what his angle was. Was William trying to win her over with this?

Just then, Jodie walked in, carrying breakfast. It was delivered in sleek, brown paper bags and takeout boxes. The scent of fresh bacon, eggs, pancakes, and coffee filled the room.

It wasn't just any breakfast. It was the kind of spread that came from a five-star hotel or an exclusive diner that catered to CEOs who didn't have time to wait in line.

Jodie set the bags down on the coffee table and asked, "Ma'am, would you like to eat now?"

Emelie smirked slightly.

William sure went all out. The man was being more extravagant now than she'd ever been with him back in the day. She gestured for Jodie to sit and eat with her. William had ordered more than enough.

Jodie picked up a plate of pancakes but kept stealing glances at Emelie. After a few moments, Emelie sighed, "If you've got something to say, Jodie, just say it."

Jodie hesitated, then said, "Ma'am, did William arrange all this? I could've sworn that I saw him here last night." Emelie raised an eyebrow.

"You told me to leave early," Jodie continued. "But when I was driving out, I saw William heading toward the building."
