Chapter 888 The End of Their Road 4

Tears trickled down Emelie's face once again. All the plans and desperate decisions, William had made them in an instant, with no time to prepare.

He didn't know that the wedding would go so wrong. He didn't know that the three families, along with Vanessa, had already silenced Emelie. He didn't know that the events on the plains would turn into chaos. He was completely unaware.

He had sensed that something was off and arranged for Elias to escort the wedding car. Despite that, he had still hoped that they would end the day as husband and wife.

But amidst that unexpected turmoil, William had done the only thing he could. He saved both Emelie and Greta. He faked Greta's death to let her slip away from everyone's watchful eyes. And he staged Emelie's death with his own hands to help her escape the ambush. It was the best solution he could come up with.

It was survival in its rawest form. It paused everything, giving Emelie time to heal, to gather her strength. Then, she could return for revenge on the others, even on him.

"What if you had miscalculated? What if I had died?" Emelie asked.

"If I was wrong, I wouldn't have lived either. I would've killed them all and then gone with you," William replied without hesitation.

There was nothing left for Emelie to say.

William cupped her face in his hands and wiped her tears away. "Angel, I'm going to have the surgery for you. I'll fight with everything I have to survive. Will you sign the consent form for me?"

Emelie's eyelashes were wet, clumped together by her tears.

"Wesley's engagement gift was the Denning Residence and more wealth than I can count. What can you give me if I marry you?" she questioned William.

William smiled. "If you'll have me, I'll give you all of me. I'll give you my all without reservation."

Whatever William had, it would all be Emelie's.

It was the same with him, and he would always walk ahead of her. As long as he was alive, he wouldn't let her die. He would protect her with his life.

Emelie fought back another wave of tears. After everything they had been through, she realized she couldn't hate him.

Back then, William didn't realize the escape was all an act. Yet still, he had thrown himself off the cliff after Emelie without a second thought. Maybe, from that moment, Emelie's heart had already waver.

Emelie reached out to touch his face.

Six years ago, on a rainy night, William had walked into her life. From that moment on, everything had drastically changed.

She lowered her hand, her voice muffled. "The wedding suit is in the wardrobe over there. I gave your measurements to the tailor based on a guess, so they might not be accurate. Try it on and see if it fits.

"If it doesn't, or if you don't look as good as Mr. Swanson in it, then I'll walk down the aisle with him instead." William froze for a moment, then he immediately stood up to open the wardrobe.

Sure enough, inside it hung a Cedonian wedding suit. It wasn't the same as the one Samuel had worn, but the matched set to Emelie's dress.

It seemed that she had already prepared it. She had been waiting for him all along.

William's heart swelled with warmth and regret. He should have shown up last night. He shouldn't have let her

down.

He walked back to the bed to kiss her eyes.

Just as he leaned in, the once-closed door suddenly swung open.

Elias burst in, shouting, "Enough of kissing! Save that for your wedding night! You two have wasted enough time already!"

William and Emelie both turned to see the room flooded with excitement and noise. It was as though someone had hit play after pausing everything before.

The wedding was back on. No one mentioned the different groom, it was as if everyone had known that William was the one.

Elias and Lyle grabbed William, who was still dazed. They hurried him off with the stylists to another room to get dressed.

Ashley and Mona came to help as well. The makeup artists reapplied Emelie's makeup and fixed her hair, which had been ruined by her tears.

As Emelie sat in front of the vanity, she locked eyes with Ashley in the mirror. They both smiled.

Ashley thought this was the first time Emelie had smiled so genuinely.

Ashley leaned down and whispered in Emelie's ear, "The other day, William came to me. He drew up an agreement

to pass you all of his property and everything in his name. He even asked me not to tell you.

"I'm a lawyer, and I'm supposed to keep client confidentiality. But since you two are now together, I'm not breaking any rules. I'm just telling you what his engagement gift is."

Ashley left out something that William had said.

That night, he had told Ashley, "I've made so many mistakes in my life, and I owe her too much. Even if I gave her

my heart, it would seem cheap and ridiculous. Now I have nothing left, not even my life.

"I've been thinking it over. This is the only valuable thing that I can give her. If she ever replaces herself with nothing, at least this will carry her through. That way, she won't have to beg anyone else."

Like how he had begged the others that year.
