Chapter 33
Peggy once again marched up to Alicia’s desk and slammed the documents down with a haughty lift of
her chin.
“Mr. Garland stated here for you to process this immediately. Spare me the lecture on rules. Mr. Garland’s signature is the only rule you need to follow. Get it done now. I have an appointment later.”
After speaking, Peggy extended her finger, which was adorned with red nail polish, and twirled her curly hair. Her eyes were filled with disdain.
Frowning, Alicia took the documents and confirmed the urgent processing note. She could only swallow her pride and bow her head to immediately operate the computer for the payment.
Beside her, Calla’s face turned red with anger. Peggy was too arrogant. How dare she swagger in here like she owned the place?
But what infuriated her more was Mercer. How could he let Peggy walk all over him like this? Just because she was his former schoolmate? Or was it because he was into Peggy’s fake charms?
Mercer had slept with her, and there was no guarantee he hadn’t done the same with Peggy.
The thought made Calla’s blood boil. Her impulsive nature urged her to act, but she had to continue enduring.
Two minutes later, Alicia handed the documents to Peggy. “It’s done.”
“Have you transferred the money? You’re sure the amount is correct, right? If not, I’ll tell Mr. Garland you’re not doing your job properly,” Peggy added a deliberate threat as she snatched the documents.
“The amount is correct. You won’t get a chance to tattle,” Alicia muttered under her breath.
She knew Peggy was aware of her friendship with Calla, hence the provocation.
However, since it was during work hours, neither she nor Calla could afford to lose their temper. After all, they both feared losing their jobs, especially considering that the perks at Atlas were too good.
Calla thought Peggy would leave after taking her money, but to her surprise, Peggy turned back and
strode over to her.
As Calla looked up at that heavily made–up face, resentment bubbled up like a bitter brew.
Peggy chuckled softly, then began her taunting. “Didn’t you claim last time that the father of your baby is the president of the country? And yet here you are, slaving away for a few measly bucks. Shouldn’t you be lounging at home as the First Lady? Oh, I get it. You must be some fling of the president, aren’t you?”
Calla shot up from her seat. Pointing at Peggy, she said, “I haven’t dealt with you for spreading my personal business around, and now you’ve come knocking on my door. It seems you need to learn a lesson about keeping your mouth shut, don’t you?”
“Lesson? From you? Calla, others may not know who you are, but I do. You’re just a lowly employee at Atlas, yet you want to teach me a lesson? I’ll have you know, my relationship with Mr. Garland is special. I could easily get him to fire you!” Peggy said fiercely.
Peggy’s threat made Calla burst into laughter.
“What are you laughing at?” Her laughter sent a shiver down Peggy’s spine.
Calla composed herself and stared coldly at Peggy. “I’m laughing at your delusions.”
“You… You’re asking for it!” Peggy’s fury peaked as she reached out to slap Calla,
Everyone gasped, and Alicia rushed over.
