Chapter 64
Calla stared blankly at the so–called wedding ring in Mercer’s hand. It was a silver ring with numerous diamonds embedded in it, shimmering like stars. Though it didn’t have a single large centerpiece, she knew it was quite valuable.
“Let me help you put it on.” Mercer affectionately took Calla’s hand and slid the ring onto her ring finger.
At that moment, Calla’s heart raced. She looked up at the person holding her hand, only to see him curling his lips, giving her a gentle smile she had never seen before.
Mercer had never been so gentle in front of her. Calla felt her goosebumps rise, but instantly pulled herself together. Right, they were just acting now. He was helping her retaliate against Peggy. She shouldn’t be acting so foolishly.
Soon, Calla’s hand was intertwined with Mercer’s. She playfully pouted as she said, “I thought I lost the ring. You scared me half to death.”
“It’s m my fault for not returning it to you earlier,” Mercer said with a face full of tenderness. He was completely unlike his usual cold and stern self.
The scene was played out so convincingly that no one around had any doubts. They all believed that Mercer was married to Calla.
Rudy was the first to react. He stepped forward with a flattering smile. “Calla, you little rascal. How could you not tell your dad that you’ve married Mr. Garland… Oh, I mean Mercer? You didn’t even give me a chance to prepare mentally.”
Seeing Rudy suddenly change his attitude toward her, Calla faced him with a cold expression. He truly was a despicable father. For the first time, she felt ashamed to be related to him.
At that moment, Peggy finally came to grips with reality. Pale with confusion and frustration, she shot Calla a fierce glare before turning away in anger.
“Peggy!” Jill shouted. She knew that they had lost today and no longer had time to argue. She turned on her heel to chase after Peggy.
Calla watched Peggy and Jill’s retreating figures coldly
It felt absurd. After so many years of constant conflict with them, she had never won once. Yet, Mercer managed to humiliate them with just a few words. It showed how insignificant people were in front of status and money.
Calla glanced at Rudy and said coldly, “Your wife and daughter have already left. Aren’t you gonna chase after them?”
“I.. You. How could you speak like that? I’m your father,” Rudy said with a lack of confidence.
“Father?” Calla raised her head and sneered. Then, she stared at Rudy and questioned, “Where were you when Zoey and I couldn’t afford tuition fees? Where were you when Zoey and I barely had enough to eat and wear? Where were you when Zoey and I were bullied?
“Do you think being a father is easy? It entails responsibility and commitment. Zoey and I have been fatherless for 15 years, so please don’t ever say that I’m your daughter in front of me again. I’ll just replace it ridiculous.”

Calla’s words left Rudy speechless as sweat beaded on his forehead. He quickly reached out to unbutton
his collar.
Carol naturally didn’t want Rudy to be more embarrassed than he already was.
She pulled Calla gently aside and said, “Calla, what are you saying?” Then, she smiled at Rudy. “Rudy, this child doesn’t know any better. Don’t take it to heart. It’s getting late, why don’t we all go home?”
