Chapter 67

Half an hour later, Calla walked out of the house with Mercer, carrying a simple bag.

The second they stepped outside, Calla complained, “Hey, why didn’t you ask me whether I was willing before you dragged me out of the house?”

Mercer glanced at Calla’s angry expression. He continued striding forward as he remarked, “You’re my wife. Of course you should live with me.”

Observing his undeniable dominance and the lack of bargaining power she had, Calla decided to just follow him. Still, she couldn’t help but warn, “I’m telling you in advance. I have many bad habits. Perhaps in time, you won’t be able to stand me.”

Mercer was unfazed. “When I was studying, countless people ground their teeth, burped, and farted all day. I eventually got used to it. I don’t think you’ll be more unbearable than those boys, will you?”

He suddenly turned to look at her.

Calla hadn’t expected him to turn around so suddenly. She didn’t have time to react and stop in her tracks. Thus, she collided with his back and exclaimed, “Hey!”

Mercer smirked. “Darling, we haven’t reached home yet. If you’re going to run into my arms, it can wait until we enter the residence,” he teased.

That made Calla’s face flush. Just as she raised her hand to smack him, he reached out and grabbed her bag. Then, he wrapped an arm around her waist and led her out of the neighborhood.

His big palms were warm and powerful. When he touched her waist, she felt dizzy. She usually had a sharp tongue, but at that moment, she forgot to retort. Without so much as another word, she followed his lead.

Calla glanced around and saw that the old women in the neighborhood were all looking at them from the shadows. Their attention was especially focused on Mercer.

Calla puffed her chest out as she strode forward, allowing Mercer’s hand to remain around her waist.

Their curious gazes were likely because those women knew that she was pregnant and were discussing how she ended up with a child before marriage. Carol had powered through the horrible rumors over multiple days.

This time, however, she and her husband openly left the neighborhood she’d stayed in for a long time. It was evidence that they were sure they’d have a good life together. In addition, she’d also married a majestic man with a successful career!

Calla looked up slowly. When she saw the man with a hand around her waist and the other hand helping her carry her luggage, she suddenly felt a little touched

Mercer had run here to support Calla and acknowledged her as his wife in front of an audience. He even helped her restore her social standing and threatened Jill and Peggy. Most importantly, Mercer was respectful toward Carol. He even brought Calla home with him.

-Was he intending to live a good life with her to the end of time? When she thought about that, Calla’s

attracted to him?

The second they left the neighborhood, Mercer retracted the arm around her waist.

Calla furrowed her brows and looked up in confusion.

Mercer’s face regained its usual impassive countenance, and the smile on his lips vanished. He explained, “I saw your mother looking at us from the window just now.”

“What?” Calla immediately looked back at the neighborhood. However, they were already too far from her house. She could not see anything.
