Chapter 85
Calla pushed him helplessly while saying, “Hey…”
However, he’d already begun snoring. She could only turn away and try to fall asleep.
Calla tossed and turned the whole night, worrying about what would happen the day after.

The next morning. Mercer and Calla set off for Sedonia.
Calla’s outfit indeed gave her the appearance of a bookish beauty. Mercer’s eyes brightened when he saw her. He was especially entranced by the hair around her shoulders, unable to resist the urge to touch the silky locks.
In the past, Calla either wore black work attire or casual clothing. Her experiences and personality made it so she never wore clothes that were too ladylike. She’d also put on light makeup.
Just like that, she’d undergone a tremendous transformation. This time, she decided to act more laid- back in order to mask her impatient side.
Simon was the one to drive them to Garland Mansion. In the backseat, Calla sat up straight throughou the whole journey, terrified she’d wrinkle the clothes she was wearing.
After three hours, they arrived at Garland Mansion at 11:00 am.
Calla stood in front of the private mansion situated in the center of the city, and she couldn’t help but feel
nervous.
Although they were in one of the busiest areas of the city, the estate seemed to be wrapped in a bubble of serenity. Though the bustling city was less than five hundred feet away, it was surprisingly quiet. In addition, the mansion was close to a government building. There was even a lakeside park beside it.
Even though the mansion did not take up a huge amount of space, it was surrounded by high walls that were nearly two stories tall. One could only see the bricks and their crimson gate, with no view of what lay inside.
Only a towering oak tree stretched its branches over the wall.
In addition, there was a guard post less than two hundred feet away from the mansion. It was a small house–like structure, and there was a police car parked outside. An officer stood stiffly on guard.
Mercer had noticed Calla’s nervousness. He couldn’t help but smile, remarking, “You seem like you’re never scared of anything. Why are you so nervous today? Are you worried that they won’t like you?”
When she heard his question, Calla tilted her chin and rebutted, “What are you talking about? I’m only having a slightly harder time getting used to a foreign environment.”
Simon rang the doorbell while carrying the gifts Mercer had prepared on Calla’s behalf.
Within seconds, a young housekeeper around 20 years of age opened the door. When ne saw Simon and Mercer, he held the door open and greeted, “Good day, Mr. Garland. Hi, Mr. Beck.”
He scanned Calla curiously. However, he did not greet her.

Mercer glanced at him, and his expression became more guarded. He announced sternly, “This is Ms. Sherman.”
“Good day, Ms. Sherman.” The young man hurriedly offered his salutation.
His overly polite greeting made Calla feel embarrassed. No one had ever been so respectful toward her
before.
When she stepped onto the estate, Calla was welcomed by an indoor rock garden. After passing the rockery, she noticed a patch of grass with a small pebbled path cutting through it.
Adjacent to the courtyard stood a trellis. Beneath it were tables and chairs crafted from stone. To the

Before she could fully appreciate the meticulous landscaping, Calla followed Mercer into the mansion.
