Chapter 1684: Some Things Don't Need to BeAsked

After Joyce got up, she had a few bites of breakfast and then sat in theliving room to check her emails. Kane had recently moved MufronQR'sheadquarters to the country, so there were quite a few things sheneeded to follow up on.

Once she finished writing the emails and sent them out, she looked upand saw Luther coming out of the bathroom.

She immediately felt something strange. Luther had come home in themorning and slept next to her. She could clearly sense that he hadtaken a shower, as there was a faint scent of bath oil on his body. After getting up, she saw Luther go to take a shower again beforehaving breakfast.

And now he was coming out of the bathroom again, his hair clearly stilldamp.

It meant that he had taken a third shower.

That was just too strange.

She couldn't help but ask, "Why are you taking so many showers?"Luther's body stiffened. Athena's repeated touches yesterday hadpushed him to the edge. His severe germophobia had resurfaced. Justthe thought of it made him feel uncomfortable and eager to take ashower.

He came up with an excuse, "My arms and back were a bit sore, so Irinsed them with hot water a few more times."

Joyce didn't ask any further. “Is it because you're too busy? Take careof yourself. If you can't finish everything, you can spread it out over afew days."

"Mm," Luther nodded as he put on his suit.

Joyce stood up and walked over to help him with his tie.

“You're not having lunch and leaving now?" she asked.

Luther leaned down and kissed her cheek. "Mm, there are still somethings I need to take care of."

Joyce suddenly asked, "Any progress on Iris’ situation?"

Luther's grip on her arm tightened for a moment, and after a briefpause, he said, "I checked all the records of Mufron's hospitals, andthere's no trace of Iris. If Iris is still in a comatose state, she woulddefinitely need a lot of medical resources. I suspect she has woken up.I have that feeling.”

Hope surged in Joyce's eyes as she covered her mouth. "Really?"She was a bit excited. "Otherwise, should I go and replace Christian...?"But she stopped in mid-sentence. After all, there was some conflictbetween Christian and Luther. She didn't know the reason, but itwouldn't be appropriate for her to contact Christian proactively.

She glanced at Luther's expression. Seeing that he seemed calm, sheshrugged. “It's been a long time since I've contacted him."

“There's nothing between me and him," she added, afraid that Lutherwould misunderstand.

Luther smiled. "I know. You don't have to explain. If there's anythingbetween you and him, even if he saved you, I would really kill him."Joyce's delicate face twitched. It seemed that Luther's animositytowards Christian was still strong.

"What deep grudge is there between you two?" Joyce finally voiced hercuriosity. At this point, did they still need to keep secrets betweenthem? She really wanted to know the reason.

"When we were young, we used to be good friends, but we fell outbecause of some things. I'll tell you later when I come back. I have ameeting and I'll be late,” Luther said, glancing at his wrist. "I need togo."

He bent down and kissed her cheek. "I'm leaving. I'll be back before 8PM. Not like last night."

Before leaving, he said one more thing, explaining his all-nightabsence.

Joyce nodded and watched him leave.

There was still a lingering sense of doubt in her heart.

She walked into the bathroom and took out the clothes she needed towash, as usual.

In the laundry basket, there was a shirt he had changed out of. Shepicked it up.

This time, she smelled the scent of perfume, different from last time. This time, the scent was much stronger. She was certain it wasn't herimagination, nor was it something that had rubbed off from thesurroundings.

It was undeniably the scent of perfume.

She furrowed her brow and instinctively examined both sides of theshirt.

Eventually, on the sleeve, she found a faint trace of lipstick, a pinklipstick mark, just a hint of it, as if someone's lips had brushed againstit.

She stared at the shirt, standing still in the bathroom, lost in thought.Perfume, lipstick.

He had been in contact with another woman.

A woman's intuition was usually accurate, and she was sure that hewas hiding something from her. Who was he with, staying out late forconsecutive nights? If it was just work-related matters, why didn't he tellher?

What was the secret he wanted tohide from her?

What did his early morning returns and morning intimacy mean?

She lifted her head and glanced at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. Her once rosy complexion now seemed pale.

She turned on the tap and washed away the lipstick mark on his shirtuntil there was no trace left. At least, except for her, she couldn't letanyone else replace out.

She walked out of the bathroom and handed the clothes to Ivy forwashing.

Darrin entered the living room at this moment.

Seeing Joyce's gloomy expression, he didn't know what she wasthinking.

He approached and asked, "Commander, Mr. Warner seems to becoming back late these days."

He was a light sleeper, and he would wake up to any movementoutside. So whenever Luther returned by car, he knew.

"He came back at five in the morning today. You should know, right?"he asked tentatively.

Joyce nodded. "Yes, I know."

"Has Mr. Warner mentioned anything about what he's been up to? Doyou need my help?" Darrin asked again, observing Joyce's expression."Do you want me to keep an eye on his whereabouts? That's myspecialty. Don't worry, I guarantee he won't replace out.”

Joyce looked up at Darrin and smiled lightly. “You're thinking too much. There's nothing to suspect. I trust him. Some things don't need to beasked; he'll tell me when the time comes.”

She knew that, for Darrin, she was the real master. She was the onlyone he needed to obey.

"Oh," Darrin replied, understanding her intention.

"If you have the free time, why don't you keep an eye on what Reubenand the others are up to? Their visit to Pascaylia is probably not just fora family reunion,” Joyce said.

"Yes, I'm also suspicious of their intentions. It might be related to thewarlords,” Darrin said, his expression serious.

“That woman named Grizela, her temperament and martial arts skillsare extraordinary. She doesn't seem like an ordinary bodyguard. It'svery likely that she's connected to the military or political organizations.Keep an eye on her," Joyce instructed.

"Yes," Darrin agreed.

Grizela, yes, her ninjutsu and judo skills were top-notch. Her demeanorseemed to come from rigorous training, while also paying greatattention to etiquette and appearance. She was definitely not ordinary. He needed to investigate thoroughly. Who was this Grizela, what washer background, and what was her purpose in serving her master?
