Chapter 1694: Understanding
Joyce arrived at Division Four and sat with Anderson in the specialreception room for a moment. Darrin had already arrived.
After Darrin arrived, he first showed his identification to the divisionchief of the police station. His status as a Colonel was enough tocommand respect from everyone.
When he entered the special reception room and saw Joyce, heanxiously asked, "Generalissimo, are you okay?"
Reuben sat on the side, looking amused, and teased, "Not bad, adistinguished Colonel willingly serving as a bodyguard. When Darrinshowed his identity outside just now, I happened to pass by and sawthe whole process."
Darrin glanced at Reuben and didn't answer.
He looked around and didn't see Grizela by Reuben's side.
Joyce shook her head. "I'm fine. I've explained the situation, and once Isign the statement, I can leave. You stay here to handle the follow-upmatters."
Darrin was worried. "It was my negligence today. I can't let you go backalone. What if something happens again..."
"Why worry about so many “what ifs'?" Joyce smiled. She beckoned toDarrin.
Darrin walked over.
Joyce lowered her voice, not wanting the people outside the room tohear.
"The situation today was very strange. After I leave, apply to the policestation as the warlord's representative to attend the interrogation of thecriminals. I want to know the specific details.”
Darrin nodded.
Joyce continued, “When I spoke with the officers earlier, it was indeedsuspicious. The criminals had six members, but the amount of goldthey stole from the jewelry store wasn't enough to divide among them. They took far greater risks than the rewards would justify. So, whowould do such a thing? That's the first strange thing. They didn'tchoose to escape directly; instead, they went to the neighboring icecream shop and took children hostage. When I confronted them, Iclearly felt that they didn't want to harm the children. It was just an act. That's the second strange thing."
Darrin's eyes flickered. "Are you suggesting that their goal was tocreate a big disturbance and panic?"
Joyce shrugged. "I don't rule out that possibility."
She said these words without avoiding Reuben.
Reuben leaned over and agreed, "You noticed it too? I found it strangeat the time."
Darrin glared at Reuben. "If you noticed, how could the generalissimonot notice? You were there too. How come you, as a man, didn't domore?"
Reuben’'s handsome face drooped. "When would I carry a gun withme? I'm not a warlord."
“You act like having a gun would make a big difference," Darrin saidwith a hint of mockery. He was annoyed. Today, he hadn't been byJoyce's side, and she had encountered danger. Reuben was present, but he didn't subdue all the criminals, causing Joyce's identity to beexposed.
"You!" Reuben's mouth twitched. What did he do to offend Darrin? Hewas always implying things, as if he didn't like him.
"Just because my marksmanship isn't as good as Joyce's. There areonly a few people in the world who can compare to her. I admit that. Buttoday, I did my best. Don't believe me? Ask her." Reuben waved hishand, pointing at Joyce.
Joyce secretly kicked Darrin, signaling him not to target Reubenanymore.
From Kiki's words, she had already confirmed that Reuben was PrinceRohomes. In any case, they should show respect.
"Yes, when the criminals held a knife to the little boy and a gun to thelittle girl, I and Reuben worked together to subdue them. Otherwise, any individual action would have been in vain and would have put thechildren in danger,” Joyce briefly explained.
She looked at Reuben with a puzzled expression. "It's strange. I justgave you a few glances, and you understood my intentions. And therewere no mistakes."
Reuben heard Joyce's words and felt good. "It means that we have anatural understanding.”
He gave a smug look to Darrin.
Darrin clenched his teeth and fell silent.
"By the way, these criminals may be from Rohomes," Reuben suddenlysaid.
Joyce looked up in surprise. "Why do you say that?"
Reuben realized as soon as he said it that it might expose his identity. But since he had already spoken, he couldn't take it back. He tousledhis silver hair. “The way the criminal holding the little boy's knife waspositioned is more in line with someone from Rohomes who practicesmartial arts.”
Joyce and Darrin exchanged glances. They both knew that Reubenhadhalf of Rohomes bloodline.
Since Reuben said so, the criminals must be related to Rohomes, butnot to Reuben.
Joyce narrowed her eyes. She couldn't help but think of how Rocuspeople often appeared in the Capital and the connection between Otisand Rohomes. Many things pointed to Rohomes.
What role did these elusive Rocus people play in these seeminglyunrelated but mysterious incidents?
Thinking about this, Joyce stood up. "Darrin, I'm afraid we need to haveeveryone involved in this incident sign a confidentiality agreement.Notify the division chief that the reason we came to Khebury must notbe disclosed to the public. Don't expose my identity, and I won't giveinterviews. The news about this incident should not mention me.Additionally, the parents of the other children today and the employeesof the ice cream shop should also sign confidentiality agreements. Justsay it involves confidential information within the warlord's ranks thatmust not be leaked.”
"Alright, I'll take care of it now.”
Darrin received the order and immediately left the special receptionroom.
Joyce glanced at Reuben. "I'm sorry, but you'll need to sign one as well.I hope you won't reveal my identity."
Reuben nodded. “No problem.”
Joyce looked at him deeply. "But I replace it strange that you weren'tsurprised at all. Actually, when we were at the ice cream shop, youasked them if they knew who I was, so you knew in advance?"Reuben, ".."
Indeed, he had known in advance.
Joyce furrowed her brow. "So, you investigated me?"
Reuben realized when she said that, he might expose his identity.
But since he had already spoken, he couldn't take it back. He flickedhis silver hair. "I didn't have any ill intentions, just curiosity. Besides, you stand out so much, it's not difficult to replace out who you are."
Joyce gave him a meaningful look.
“It seems that we don't have any connection between us."
Reuben chuckled. "But isn't there one now?"
He glanced back.
Anderson had been playing a mobile game since earlier. Kiki watchedsilently because she was afraid of annoying Anderson and didn't speak, just quietly watching.
It seemed that the adult world had nothing to do with them.
Joyce smiled ambiguously and no longer paid attention to Reuben.
At this moment, her phone rang.
She looked down and saw that it was Luther calling.
She quickly answered the call.
