Chapter 1724: Lack of Dominance
On the other side.
Joyce continued to live a peaceful life in the Warner family.
She continued to send and pick up Anderson from school, preparedexquisite meals, and even had the trees and flowers in the courtyardtrimmed.
Darrin went out every day at a regular time to search for information.Joyce went about her daily routine without any abnormalities. Evenwhen she received calls from Jacqueline and Shelly, who wereoverseas, after seeing the news, she responded casually.
During this time, she also made a visit to JK Intelligence to arrange therecent work.
Both the Warner residence and the vicinity of the company were clearlybeing watched by reporters, but the reporters didn't dare to approachand inquire. After all, she was a young marshal, not an ordinary singer, and the media was cautious around her.
On this day, Joyce's phone rang, and she received an unfamiliar call. The incoming number was from overseas and clearly a fake onlinenumber.
Her heartbeat suddenly accelerated. Her intuition told her that if shejust waited patiently, the person who was looking for her woulddefinitely appear, and the one who needed to replace her would eventuallyshow themselves.
As long as she could remain patient, the other party wouldn't be able tosit still.
Indeed, she finally received the call.
Joyce stood up and walked to the window.
In the courtyard, the spring sunlight was just right, casting a goldenglow over everything. The grass was lush green, and the surroundingswere adorned with various blooming flowers that swayed gently in thebreeze, creating a beautiful scene that was pleasing to the eye.
She pressed the answer button, her voice pleasant and melodious."Hello, who is this? May I ask who you're looking for?"
On the other end of the phone, a cold female voice sounded, not tooloud but with a provocative tone. “You must be Joyce, right? Let's meetat a café at 2 o'clock this afternoon. I'll send you the address by textmessage."
"Okay," Joyce readily agreed.
The other party promptly hung up the phone.
At this moment, Darrin walked over from behind Joyce and asked, "Anydevelopments from the other side?"
Joyce nodded. "Yes, she said she wants to meet me. She'll send theaddress to my phone. If I'm not mistaken, she is Christian's sister,Athena.”
She turned around, a curve forming on her lips. "She has finally shownup, faster than I expected.”
"Are you going?" Darrin asked.
"Of course. It's such a good opportunity, why wouldn't I meet her?"Joyce sat down by the sofa, picked up the cup of tea in front of her, andtook a sip.
Darrin pondered for a moment. "What if it's a trap, or if she has otherplans to harm you? Marshal, I'm worried. I'll go with you to protect youdiscreetly. And I plan to bring a few people, just in case.”
Joyce agreed. "Yes, that's fine. Although I don't think her intention inreplaceing me is to harm me. Otherwise, she wouldn't need to openly seekme out; she could have attacked me in secret. She must have othermotives. I'll know once I meet her."
"Alright. It's better to be safe than sorry. I'll make the necessarypreparations.”
After saying that, Darrin quickly left the living room to makearrangements.
By the time it was 1 o'clock in the afternoon, Joyce received a textmessage from an unknown sender. It contained a location.
The location was some distance from the Warner residence, and itwould take about fifty minutes to drive there. It seemed that the otherparty had timed it well and was well aware of her whereabouts.
Joyce informed Darrin, and she drove alone to the location Athenasent.
It was a café situated at the foot of a mountain. It had a large area andwas surrounded by carefully trimmed greenery, creating an appealingatmosphere.
Darrin, accompanied by several bodyguards, arrived shortly after andtook positions in the surrounding area.
Joyce entered the café, and it was evident that she was the first toarrive. The café had been cleared out, leaving only two waitersstanding behind the counter.
Joyce sat down at a window seat, choosing an angle that would allowDarrin to monitor and protect her at any time. It was a safer position.
A waiter approached her and asked, "Hello, what would you like todrink?"
Joyce looked up and asked in return, "Since this place is reserved forsomeone, didn't you order afternoon tea in advance?"
The waiter was momentarily taken aback and shook his head. "We onlyreceived notice from the boss that we're not open this afternoon, exceptfor two female customers."
"So, how did you know that I'm one of the two female customers yourboss mentioned? What ifl'm just passing by and came in for a cup ofcoffee?" Joyce leaned back in her seat, a smirk playing on her lips asshe posed the question.
The waiter was caught off guard by the question and didn't know howto respond.
Joyce let out a cold laugh and pointed to a glass screen behind thefront desk. "Bring her out. I'm already here, so why would she hide andnot show herself?"
The waiter glanced discreetly in the direction indicated by Joyce's gaze, her eyes filled with guilt. She looked at Joyce, realizing that the womanbefore her was perceptive and had seen through her. A few words wereenough to leave her speechless.
"Clap, clap, clap!" A round of applause rang out as Athena slowlyemerged from behind the screen.
When meeting Joyce, Athena naturally didn't use a wheelchair. SinceLuther had exposed her intact legs, she no longer needed to pretendwith the wheelchair. Originally, she had only wanted to gain Luther'spity and guilt. Since she couldn't achieve her goal, there was no needto continue the charade.
Today, Athena wore her favorite Japanese-style kimono dress, with ablack base embroidered with bright pink cherry blossoms. Each cherryblossom was adorned with golden thread, exuding an extravagant aura. Her ink-black hair cascaded down, and her porcelain-doll-like delicateface was deliberately made up with heavy makeup. Smoky eyeliner, slender eyebrows, blood-red lips, and a dark and sinister aura thatcouldn't be concealed, she resembled a displayed voodoo doll.
It was the first ime Joyce had seen Athena, and she was somewhatsurprised.
If it was about beauty, Athena was undeniably beautiful, but if it wasabout an evil aura, Athena had that in abundance.
Joyce herself was dressed in a beige suit today, elegant and dignified. She hadn't even bothered to put on makeup or dress up. She felt thatall the effort was unnecessary.
Athena approached, and although Joyce had seen her in photos andhad some previous contact with her, this was the first time she hadseen her up close for an extended period. Waves of sourness welledup in her heart. The Joyce before her, pure in beauty, graceful indemeanor, naturally exuding strength, didn't need any fancy clothes ormakeup.
In comparison, Athena's efforts seemed unnecessary.
This made Athena extremely unhappy.
Joyce, with her first words, identified herself as Mrs. Warner andreferred to Athena as Miss Ballard, clearly asserting her dominance andopenly displaying their respective identities and positions.
Damn it, Joyce, she introduced herself as Mrs. Warner right from thestart and called her Miss Ballard, clearly asserting her dominance andexposing their respective identities.
Joyce had cut Athena short before she even began.
Joyce's opening move caught Athena off guard, making her furiousinside.
This woman, Joyce, should not be underestimated.
