Chapter 1769: I'm Jealous
"Okay." Joyce didn't refuse.
She naturally understood that their current actions were aimed atChristian's beloved sister, Athena. Not only was she his sister, but alsothe person Christian loved. His mood must not be good at the moment. With Christian's shrewdness, he must have already noticed someclues. Otherwise, he wouldn't have actively sought her out, dismissedeveryone else, and brought her here.
"Do you like drinking green tea?" Joyce pointed to the tea leavesplaced in front of Christian. "It's hard to imagine since green tea has alighter taste.”
Christian sat across from Joyce, rinsed the teapot, and poured boilingwater over the tea leaves. The emerald green leaves rolled andunfurled in the boiling water, looking fresh and vibrant.
"Actually, I didn't drink tea before, especially not green tea. I picked upthis habit from Athena." Christian poured a cup of tea for Joyce andpushed it gently towards her.
Joyce was surprised that the topic quickly shifted to Athena. She hadbrought up green tea unintentionally.
"Hehe, many people from the Rohomes family like drinking green tea. It's not surprising." Joyce continued the conversation.
She picked up the cup in front of her. The tea was hot, so she sipped itcarefully. When the tea cooled slightly, she drank it all in one gulp.“The tea is indeed good. It's a pity that I don't have the mood for it. Idon't like drinking tea." Joyce spoke calmly. "Some people claim to likedrinking tea, but they don't truly appreciate it. They only use it as a wayto display a serene and leisurely image. Such people often act moreruthlessly. It's like many people who worship Buddha, but how many ofthem truly have Buddha in their hearts? It's just a result of accumulatingsins and wealth, feeling unworthy of their virtues, and unable to replacepeace in their hearts. That's all.”
Christian paused, raising his gaze to Joyce's eyes, a touch of depthappearing in his own.
He put down the teacup in his hand.
She was right; he wasn't a tea drinker either. He sought peace of mind.Athena wasn't either. Tea was just a tool for Athena to conceal her truenature, making it difficult for people to see through her, to understandher intentions.
“You're more perceptive than before," Christian smiled slightly, his gazeshowing admiration.
"Hehe, even if I had experienced death, I still wouldn't be able to seethrough everything. I can only say that my attachments run deep."Joyce remained composed. Her beautiful face, framed by the sceneryoutside the window, appeared tranquil and serene.
Christian's eyes dimmed.
Someone who had experienced death but still couldn't let go of theirattachments naturally referred to Athena.
He sighed.
"I already know about Alisha's situation. I'm sorry I didn't discover thatsomeone had tampered with Alisha back then; otherwise, we wouldn'tbe facing this disaster. It's my responsibility. I apologize.”
“You're my benefactor, there's no need for you to apologize." Joycelooked deeply into Christian's eyes. "You know, I've always beengrateful to you. I have no way to repay you. I can't fulfill what I owe you.You don't owe me anything."
After a pause, Joyce continued, “Let me make it clear. Athena abductedAlisha and implanted an explosive device in her body. I know you'veliked Athena for many years, and I don't want to be your enemy. But Ican't give up on my daughter. I'm determined to deal with Athena. Idon't expect you to understand me, and I won't ask for your help. I justhope that you can remain neutral and observe from the sidelines. I willgive you an explanation afterwards."
Christian suddenly stood up. "Actually, I..."
He wanted to say that he had already let go of his infatuation withAthena. Since he found out about Alisha's situation, the last string in hisheart had completely snapped. The Athena he remembered from hismemories was not the same as the Athena now.
He remembered the day he took Alisha from Luther's embrace, feelingher soft and warm body, so small and real. It filled him with immenseexcitement.
He had thought that Alisha was already dead, but she was still alive. This news was too shocking for him.
What could be happier than this?
He had treated Anderson and Alisha as his own children.
“I didn't expect you already knew. I thought he hadn't told you,"Christian sat back down, calming his emotions.
Joyce shook her head. "He didn't tell me. I figured it out myself. Hedidn't want me to worry or be hurt. Before the situation has a goodending, he prefers to keep me in the dark."
“You understand him well," Christian raised an eyebrow. His gaze fellon Joyce's slightly swollen belly. In fact, he had noticed it earlier. Itwasn't very noticeable the last time he saw her, but now it couldn't beconcealed.
"You're pregnant?” he asked.
Joyce lowered her head, gently looking at her belly.
"Mhmm." She smiled as she looked up. "I don't know whose genes theyinherited, but it's twin boys."
Christian was momentarily stunned. He laughed. "I'm jealous, really.""I will help you with Alisha’s situation,” Christian suddenly turnedserious. He pulled out a piece of paper from under the tea table andhanded it to Joyce. "I know you're looking for the hidden location of thedetonator. These are three places I know of. You need to eliminatethem. Some places are beyond my current influence. Although I'vesevered ties with her, I don't want to get involved personally, but youdon't have to worry about me."
Excitement flashed in Joyce's beautiful eyes. She didn't even have toask; she had already obtained what she wanted.
With three specific locations clarified, their workload would be greatlyreduced, and their time shortened.
“Thank you, Christian.” She took the paper from Christian's hand.Although Christian had just said that he had severed ties with Athena, she still made a solemn promise. “Christian, no matter how Athenaretaliates, I promise I won't harm her in the slightest. Your family affairs,I won't interfere. I know you must want to resolve things between youand her personally. Once we rescue Alisha, I will also replace out the truthabout what happened ten years ago and give you an explanation.”Christian nodded. "Okay."
