Chapter 1781: Slowly Accepting Her

"Why are you crying, Mommy?" Alisha suddenly quickened her paceand ran towards Athena. Her chest felt strange, and she felt dizzy andweak, as if floating on air.

She ran up to Athena and forcefully hugged her with her small body.

At this moment, Reuben finally reacted. Alisha had actually woken upand crawled out from the safe corner, running outside. He was tooshocked just now because he had learned about Luther's poisoning, with only three months left to live.

Damn it, he cursed under his breath, wanting to rush out and catchAlisha, but it was already too late.

Upon hearing Alisha’s voice, Athena abruptly grabbed her and held hertightly in her arms.

Joyce heard a faint child's voice calling for "Mommy," and her mind wassuddenly captivated. It must be Alisha, it must be. The instinct ofmotherhood immediately responded when she heard the calling of"Mommy," and she responded, "Alisha, I'm here."

Unfortunately, Alisha didn't hear her voice. Instead, right in front of her,Alisha threw herself into Athena's embrace.

Joyce trembled fiercely and almost lost her balance.

Though Luther didn't expect Alisha to come out on her own, he waswell aware that Alisha considered Athena her mother. He firmlysupported Joyce, tightly gripping her arm.

An unexpected and terrible situation had arisen. Alisha was once againunder Athena's control, and Athena might resort to a life-or-deaththreat. Alisha had just undergone surgery, and this was the weakestpoint of her body.

Luther clenched his fists tightly, his expression serious. He ponderedhow to handle the situation.

Athena was greatly shaken in her mind. She held Alisha and cried,"Alisha, Daddy doesn't want us anymore. Daddy wants to take youaway and be with another woman. Over there, it's her. From now on,you have to call her Mommy. Alisha, Mommy doesn't want to beseparated from you. Please, beg Daddy not to leave me, okay?"Saying that, Athena pointed her finger at Joyce, her face full ofresentment.

“It's her, Joyce, she's the one who ruined our happy family! Alisha, please persuade Daddy to come back with us.”

This was the ideology Athena had instilled in Alisha countless times.Alisha’s thoughts were deeply ingrained.

Following the direction of Athena's finger, Alisha looked over and sawthe bright lights brought by the warlords, illuminating everything asbright as day. She saw Joyce standing tall, holding a gun. It was adeadly weapon, and she knew it.

Her father's hand was holding the shoulder of another woman, thesame woman Joyce had mentioned as her mom.

Her small eyes filled with resentment.

"Daddy, you lied to me after all. You brought me here because youwanted to leave Mommy and be with this woman, right? She's a badwoman!"

Luther suddenly became furious. "Alisha, come here. Athena is notyour mommy. She is the one who gave birth to you and raised you!Look carefully! When did Daddy ever lie to you?!"

Joyce, under the bright light, finally saw Alisha's face clearly. She was abeautiful little girl, delicate and lovely, with dark pupils, resemblingLuther even more. Her heart tightened. Alisha’s accusation of being abad woman finally reminded her that she had met Alisha before.

In the department store, she had encountered a lost little girl who wascrying and looking for her mother.

She still remembered the scene of their conversation.

"How about I take you to the department store's missing persons centerand broadcast a search for your mommy there? Don't be afraid, I willprotect you if we encounter bad people.”

The little girl looked at her and suddenly pushed her away. “No. You'rewrong. You're a bad person! Mommy said you're the worst woman inthe world! Stay away from me!"

Then the little girl ran away directly.

Since she saw the little girl reunited with her mother, she didn't pay anymore attention.

Now she realized that she had already encountered her own daughter, but she didn't recognize her. At that time, Alisha had already recognizedher as a thief and believed that she was a bad woman.

Joyce took a step back heavily, leaning into Luther's embrace, seekingsolace.

Her long-awaited daughter was right in front of her, but she was treatedworse than a stranger.

Her own daughter called someone else "Mommy" and believed that shewas a bad woman. The blow was too heavy. She finally understoodwhy Luther had never come home and never told her that Alisha wasstill alive. Luther had never been able to persuade Alisha.

She shook her head in disbelief, tears welling up in her eyes. "Alisha... Iam... I..."

Luther, for the first time, had a stern expression towards Alisha andshouted, "Alisha, I'll say it again, she is your mommy. Athena has norelation to you. Look carefully! When has Daddy ever lied to you?!"Alisha cried out loudly, "No, I don't believe you. You don't want Mommyanymore, and you're making up these excuses to deceive me!"

"You want to take me away so that I'll never see Mommy again. I know! You're lying to me! You want to be with another woman, and you don'twant Mommy anymore! Waaah! You're a bad daddy, lying to people!"Luther felt an immense headache. Alisha's stubborn personality wassimilar to his when he was young. Once she made up her mind, it wasdifficult to change it. He had invested so much effort in gaining Alisha'strust, but it might all be in vain.

Now the most critical thing was to snatch Alisha back from Athena'sgrasp, or they would be in a very passive situation.

Reuben, who was also waiting for an opportunity, thought the same. Hehadn't been watching Alisha closely, and the mistake was his to makeup for. If he had known, he should have put Alisha under fullanesthesia, which might have prevented the current trouble.

He silently moved behind Athena, waiting for the right moment.

At this moment, he exchanged a glance with Luther.

Luther's eyes narrowed suddenly as he saw the signal from Reuben. He nodded, understanding the plan.

Reuben leaped forward, swiftly kicking the weapon out of Athena'shand, and at the same time, the powerful impact caused Athena to fallto the ground in a sorry state.

Simultaneously, Luther raised his gun and aimed at Athena's shoulder. In a lightning-fast motion, he shot at Athena's shoulder, hitting the spotwhere Joyce had shot her before, piercing through once again.

Athena let out a painful scream, her whole body trembling from thepain, unable to move.

With old wounds and new injuries, the pain was unbearable.
