Chapter 1797: Endured for a Long Time
A while later, Darrin brought Anderson back.
Karl also came back to the ward.
Cecelia sat for a moment and said, "There's no time to delay. I'll takeher back to the Capital while Alisha is still unconscious.”
Reassuringly, she added: "On the way, I'll contact the medical team ofthe warlords to wait at the residence. I'll also bring in a professionalchild psychologist consultant.”
Luther nodded. Naturally he felt at ease with Cecelia. It's just that whenhe looked at Alisha, his eyes were full of reluctance to part. Ceceliasaid it wouldn't take long, but who knew exactly how long it would need.He didn't know if he would live to see Alisha recognize him again, andcall him Dad and Joyce Mom again.
Thinking of this, his heart twitched. He held Alisha's little hand a littletighter.
Joyce held Alisha's little hand reluctantly, soft and pale. Her heartached with pain. They had just met and now had to separate again. If itwasn't to protect the twins in her belly, no matter how difficult it was,she wanted to teach Alisha personally.
Anderson also came forward, and the family hugged each other tightly, reluctant to part.
Seeing this, Cecelia couldn't help but look away, her eyes moist.
Karl cleared his throat and said calmly, "It's time to go."
"Okay." Luther steeled his heart and pulled Alisha's little hand out ofJoyce's hand. He carried Alisha and walked to Cecelia.
Cecelia held out her hands to take over Alisha and held the soft littleAlisha in her arms. "Leave her to me. You take care of yourselves. I'lllet you know immediately if there's any good news."
"Mom, thank you for going through all this trouble," Joyce said, alreadychoking up.
Cecelia nodded. Without lingering, she turned and left holding Alisha.Karl followed after her.
Before leaving, Karl bid farewell to Joyce and Luther, "I'll go first, to thepolice headquarters. Contact me if you need anything."
"Goodbye," Joyce smiled and waved.
“I'l go send Grandma off. I'll come back up myself in a bit," Andersonslid down from beside Joyce and rushed out of the ward after them.Darrin asked, "Major, Mr. Warner, we can't go back to the Warnerresidence. What are the arrangements next?"
“I don't want to stay in the hospital,” Joyce looked around. She wasvery averse to hospitals. Besides, this hospital was only temporarilyrequisitioned, not their own territory, so the warlords couldn't stationguards here long term.
“Let's go back to the duplex penthouse in the city center. There's ahelipad on the roof, very convenient,” Luther took out his phone. "I'llmake a call to arrange it."
"Okay." Darrin agreed. Having a helicopter that could take off at anytime was very convenient for him. He could fly a helicopter and departfor the Capital temporarily whenever needed.
Joyce asked, "What about Mr. Arnold? How is he?"
"Nothing serious, just that he's old. The impact to his brain was quitebig so he needs a long time to recuperate,” Darrin replied. "I just askedthe doctor earlier.”
Hearing this, Luther said, "Mr. Arnold has dedicated his life to theWarner family. He almost died this time. He should rest well. I'll havesomeone send him back home and give him a generous pension. Hischildren will all be arranged into big companies so he won't have toworry for the rest of his life."
Joyce agreed, "Mr. Arnold should enjoy his blessings now. Don't hireany servants at home for the time being, just let the regular staff comein to clean. In case any unsavory people take the chance to sneak inrecently.”
"Okay. Major, I'll arrange your discharge now. Can you handle itphysically?" Darrin asked.
"No problem.” Joyce nodded.
Darrin immediately went to handle it.
In the afternoon, Joyce finally returned to Luther's luxury duplexpenthouse in the city center.
With an open concept duplex, cold grey interior design, all glass spiralstaircase, ultra modern décor, sensor activated lights, curtain wallbackgrounds, it was equipped with a full smart home system.Compared to the Warner residence, this place was actually moresuitable for security arrangements, with 360 degrees CCTV monitoringand smart alarm systems without any blind spots.
"Wow, so awesome!" Anderson had never been here before. "Dad hasso many houses!"
"Can I be in charge of the security system here?"
“You and Darrin will be in charge together. You're still young, Darrin hasto check your work, right?" Joyce smiled.
"Hmph, and I want to audit his work too!" Anderson was a littledissatisfied.
Darrin readily agreed, "Let's supervise each other then. How about wereplace security holes in each other's setup? Good?"
“Now that's more like it," Anderson was satisfied. “There should be acomputer room here, right?"
“Yes, on the third floor,” Luther pointed. "There's an elevator around thecorner, go ahead."
Darrin brought Anderson to the computer room.
Luther picked Joyce up and headed upstairs.
"Put me down, I'm very heavy now." Joyce hugged his neck, a littleworried about him.
Luther glared at Joyce. "What do you mean? You think I can't even dothis much?"
“I didn't mean that, I..." Joyce hesitated. She was worried about hisphysical condition but didn't want to hurt him. She bit her lip awkwardly.Suddenly Luther chuckled. "Why are you so nervous?"
He carried her up to the second floor and put her down on the soft bigbed. "The doctor said you need to stay in bed and not get upunnecessarily."
Saying so, he got into bed as well and took her into his arms.
Joyce snuggled into his embrace obediently, her ear against his chestlistening to his strong heartbeat. Her hand unconsciously caressed hischest, feeling his presence.
It had been so long since they held each other like this. She realizedshe simply couldn't leave him.
Suddenly, Luther grabbed her little hand. "If you keep touching me likethis, I won't be able to control myself." He glanced at her belly. "Wecan't be intimate now. The doctor said at least a month after givingbirth."
Joyce glared at him with her beautiful eyes. Annoyed, she asked, "Whydid you ask the doctor about this kind of thing again? What are youthinking about?"
Luther looked back at her. "I didn't ask. The doctor would tell meproactively.”
She couldn't refute him. Snuggling against his chest, she asked softly,"So what will you do?"
"What do you mean what will I do?" Luther held her and gently strokedher back.
“Isn't it hard for you to endure? Besides, you've endured for so longalready.” Joyce bit her lip lightly and asked in a small voice.
