"Tulong! (Help!)"
She called for help with all her might.
"Tulong! (Help!)"
She called for help even louder this time.
Why they couldn't hear her, she asked to herself. Is she mute?
They were close enough to her that she could touch them if it's only bright. But why couldn't she see them? It's too dark; why there's no light? Is she blind? She's losing hope that she could be heard by these people. She tried to move, but why can't she even move her body also? What happened to her? Is she tied up? But it seems not; nothing is holding her. Oh, why she cannot move? She's tired of screaming, but she never heard. She guesses it's a nightmare. She also has a nightmare that she can hear but can't move. She tried one more time. If she is able to just move her hand, then she will wake up if it's a nightmare. But nothing, nothing at all. She cried for what she suffered; she doesn't even know why. She must be dead.
"Oh my God! She's crying!" The nurse said, astonished.
"That's normal, nurse," the doctor told her while talking to Leandro Dell Valle.
"Comatose patients can hear and even feel," the doctor continued.
Leandro glanced at the woman in coma. He saw the hope is near.
"That means she will wake up soon, and we will know her name, Dr. Huffman?" he asked the doctor.
"Yes, for sure, but I will not guarantee that she will know her name or who she is in general," said the doctor.
She could hear them.
She could hear what they were talking about.
She wants to answer them.
She wants to tell them what's her name, but then she stops and thinks.
And the fear engulfed her.
She doesn't know her name.
She cried.
What's happening to her?
Why can't she even remember her name?
What had happened?
Is she dead or alive?
She wanted to open her eyes, but it seems that they were glued and couldn't be moved.
She tried to move her hands, but it wasn't.
She tried again.
Still cannot.
Then there's a fresh tear from her eyes again.
"She's crying again," said the doctor.
"You said she can hear and feel right?" she could hear the man's voice that moved closer to her.
He held her hand.
When she feels that the man is holding her hand, she clasps it with all her might.
"Did you see that, Doc? She holds my hand," the man said
"I saw that too. Let's wait for awhile; we cannot force to wake her up. She is regaining strength for the weeks she's in a coma. Be patient. She'll open her eyes soon," the doctor said. Coma.
She's in a coma?
But why?
She cried at the thought that she was in a coma.
What made her cry even more was the realization that she couldn't remember who she is.
Who are the people she could hear from the background?
Aside from the doctor. Who is the man who is still holding her hand?
What is her relationship to him?
Is she married to this man?
Is he her husband or boyfriend?
She tried to relax her mind. According to the doctor that the man was talking to, she will wake up in no time. They just have to be patient.
She will wait for that moment when she can finally open her eyes. She has many questions that need an immediate answer.
"Nauuhaw ako! *(I'm thirsty),*" she said in a hoarse voice.
She slowly opened her eyes; it's too bright. She closed again and opened, and she looked at the surroundings. Where is she?
"What did she say?" The doctor asked the Filipina nurse.
"She said she's thirsty," replied the nurse.
"Sandali lang Miss, ikukuha kita ng tubig. *Wait a moment, Miss. I'll get you some water,*" the nurse told her.
"Salamat! (Thank *you!)*" she replied in a hoarse voice.
While the nurse is getting water, the doctor helps her to sit up.
He put her pillow in her back.
Then the nurse handed a water bottle with a plastic straw to the doctor.
"Here, sip a little in this straw, not too fast," said the doctor
When the man told her that she'd be discharged from the hospital. She was sacred; where she will go. She can't even remember her name. Where will she be going? Does she have any family? If she does, why aren't they here with her? Are these people her family? No, that's for sure. This one is a doctor. The other one is a nurse. Who's this man?
She closed her eyes; she tried to remember things. She couldn't be like this.
