A Gold Alpha For A Silver Alpha -
Moon-Colored Eyes Chapter 6
Jackson
POV
I see my mother trying to process the information Juliet gave us before she passed out. My sister is in my arms totally unconscious and hurt. Wounded.
My wolf Rex is roaring for the blood of the people who hurt my family, but my killer instinct is trying to replace a logical explanation to my sister's revelation. -What do we do, Mom? she finally asked.
My mother has always been my role model, while my father was a great admiration mom was definitely everything I aspired to be someday.
A great Alpha, a good partner, and a great father.
-This doesn't change anything, kill or not kill your sister was hurt. And that is not forgiven, take her out of here, I'll take care of replaceing the rats that did this-.
She finally says very seriously and her eyes acquire that murderous gleam that instills so much fear in wolves. I swallow saliva and ask something nervous.
-And what happens if you replace them, I mean, after all, he is Juliet's partner, you can hurt him more unconsciously.
My mother rolls her eyes and turns around, walks a couple of steps and crouches down to look for the scent.
-The male in question is lucky to be your sister's mate, I'll let him live alone long enough for Juliet to decide what she wants to do with him. If what she decides is that she wants to spend the rest of her days alone, I will gladly fulfill her whim. And if she decides to accept it, well, the puppy had better be prepared for what awaits him. Now go and take care of your sister.
-Yes Alpha. I don't call her mom because that last was a command, not a request, so I do as she asks and walk away.
It doesn't take long before I hear the sound of her transforming probably to make the hunt easier. I can't do it because I have to carry Juliet in my arms but that doesn't stop me from starting to run as fast as I can without risking harming her further.
On the way to the mansion I can see many wolves running in the direction of the forest, more specifically to the point where we found my sister. I see silver wolves mostly, including Logan and Dannia with serious expressions. My parents really weren't playing games when it came to the safety of their children.
It didn't take me long to reach the mansion that was my home, the doors were wide open and at the entrance my father and his Beta were waiting for us. My father's face was pale and with a deadly look in his golden eyes that made them look unusually cold. I didn't take a step inside before he took Juliet's body from my arms to hold it for me. I tried not to be bothered by the fact that he completely ignored me, for his only daughter, my only sister had been attacked on our territory. But I couldn't help a prick of irritation running through me. He wouldn't even let me explain the news before he disappeared upstairs with Noel.
Who unlike my father gave me a brief glance and a nod, knowing that my sister was already in capable hands I followed my brothers' trail to the living room, where I did indeed replace them. Julian was sitting on the couch next to Leonardo while Jace paced back and forth like a caged wolf.
My brothers were visibly filthy from the hunt they were engaged in by the time Juliet howled for help.
A shiver ran down her back.
She had never thought she would hear a call for help within the confines of her pack, much less from her younger sister. She had been close to her mother when it had echoed through the forest and they had both been at a loss for what to do for a few seconds, too shocked to know how to react, but then her mother responded and ran off with Jackson behind her.
Seeing her little sister lying on the forest floor bleeding was the hardest thing she had to witness in her twenty years of existence.
-Jackson, where's Juliet, is she okay, what happened?
Jace attacked him with questions when he became aware of his presence, and he couldn't blame him, the twins had a pretty close relationship.
The same way he and Julian had.
A sigh escaped his lips and his hands tousled his hair. He wasn't quite sure what his brothers were going to tell them.
-I don't know what happened, when mom and I arrived Juliet was already injured and on the ground, there was no one else in the area, but I did recognize the scent of three other people. Our sister is with my dad and Noel who are tending to her wounds, I have no idea who is behind the attack, but mom stayed looking for her scent. Logan and Dannia are with her as is half of mom's elite squad. I wouldn't be surprised if those responsible are running for their lives right now. Mom wants to see blood.
That last I say not very convinced, I haven't the slightest idea what I was going to do with Juliet's mate.
Gee, I don't know what I'm going to do with that information.
My baby sister with a mate, a male who is going to take her away from us, a male who instead of taking care of her and protecting her left her there, lying there, bleeding.
I let out a low growl, I don't know the guy but he definitely doesn't deserve my sister.
-Mom is going to tear the culprits to pieces when she replaces them, and rest assured that she won't set foot in the house until she has them in her clutches. Julian says very seriously and Jace and I nod.
Leonardo shifts uncomfortably on the sofa and I give him an irritated look, what the hell was he doing sitting here anyway, he hadn't known Juliet for more than a few hours and yet he was waiting to hear from her as if they had known each other all their lives. -I'm going to go check on her, I need to make sure she's okay. Jace announces with intentions of leaving the room but I grab him by the neck and throw him to the couch to stop him.
-I'm going to go see her, I need to make sure she's okay. Jace announces with intentions of leaving the room but I grab him by the collar and throw him onto the couch to stop him.
-Quiet puppy, there is nothing you can do right now but sit and wait for news from my father. Besides there is something else I need to tell you. Jace growled and folded his arms in annoyance at being reprimanded but kept quiet. That was the difference with the twins, Juliet would never have obeyed my orders so easily, oh no, my sister had too much Alpha blood in her veins to bow her head to anyone- When we found Juliet she was at the edge of her strength, before fainting she managed to tell us a somewhat disturbing revelation. She only said one word- I took a breath before continuing- She said, mate-.
I drop my words like a bombshell and my brothers' reactions are not long in coming, they both stand up from where they were sitting, and while Julian maintains a sort of calm Jace seems to be about to lose his temper and transform. -Was it his mate who hurt her?!
-I'm going to kill that bastard when I get my hands on him!
-Where is he?
Those and hundreds of other comments were what came out of the lips of both of them. However, the reaction that surprised me the most was that of the new member of the family, who paled and his look became anguished and then he calmed down and pretended that nothing happened, stood up and said goodbye to me with a nod of his head before disappearing. How strange.
That guy is hiding something Jack, I don't like him one bit.
I don't like Rex either.
We'll have to keep a close eye on him.
Count on it.
My gaze followed Leonardo who strangely did not head upstairs to his room but to the front door.
I returned my attention to my twin and the family puppy who were still spouting expletives and theories into the air.
-Well, that's enough! I shouted finally losing my temper. -I already told you that I have no idea what happened, only Juliet will be able to solve those doubts when she wakes up, until then it will be better that we don't assume anything so as not to make a mistake. By the Goddess of the Moon, being the first born is a pain in the a*s when I have to play the role of mother hen.
-This is going to be a problem, Juliet never wanted to replace her mate, she's a free soul. Besides, no matter who the male is, the circumstances are not the best and leave a lot to be said. Julian reasons and we all agree with him.
-Dad is going to lose his mind when he replaces out. Jace says and I open my mouth to tell them that the best thing to do is to leave mom to give him this news.
But fate doesn't love us very much these last days because my father's voice interrupts us.
-To know what? The three of us are startled because we don't hear him coming.
Dad looks tense and upset, his shirt is stained with my sister's silver blood as well as his hands. He has that calculating expression he wears whenever he is about to mete out a particularly severe punishment to unruly wolves. He looks like an Alpha.
-Someone be so kind as to tell me that's going to make me lose my mind. Or at least more than I've already lost it. Has your mother arrived yet or did she send any news?
I shake my head and share a look with my brothers, clear my throat and cross my hands behind my back. I have no idea what my father is going to do when he replaces out that his baby girl found her life partner.
And that she almost died while in his care.
No, Mom hasn't come back and we haven't heard from her. And about the other thing. Before she fainted, Julieta managed to communicate something to us-.
-Is it about her attackers? Dad asks with an arched eyebrow but I shrug my shoulders. -I really don't know dad, she only said one word before she closed her eyes.
My father looks at me impatiently, and I must admit that my voice trembles a little when I force the word through my lips.
-Mate.
Dad looks like he's been kicked in the stomach, closes his eyes and the color rises to his face to a bright scarlet. When he opens them again I can see the yellow pupils of his wolf as well as the fangs growing along with his claws.
-She said what? He gasps between his teeth and I swallow my saliva nervously and preparing myself in case I need to jump to restrain him, from a sidelong glance I can see how my brothers surround him with my same thought in mind.
-She said mate, and then just fainted, we don't know if he was the one who hurt her or if he was just present. Mom said she was going to comb the whole forest until she found them, and that she was going to leave the live buck in question for Juliet to decide what to do with.
Dad growls louder and we all hear his bones start to creak.
-Dad, calm down.
I tell him because I know Mack, his wolf must be demanding control, but without mom here he was in charge of watching over my sister so he had to be in his five senses.
He moves his neck from side to side and his hands make fists, his whole body shakes and I admire his control.
Not everyone can control their animal instinct like my parents did.
-Alpha! Blessed Noel among the wolves who interrupts at the necessary moments, the Beta comes running down the stairs and stops when he sees the scene, his eyes scan the four of us but they stop on my father, he is also stained with blood but a slight smile adorns his face -Julietta is awake and asks for you-.
No sooner had those words left his mouth when all the males of the family ran in the direction of my sister's room.
No sooner had those words left his mouth when all the males in the family ran in the direction of my sister's room.
It was no surprise that Jace was the first to arrive followed by my father, then Julian and lastly me.
We entered like a herd of cavemen into the place pushing and shoving each other and making noise. But we were relatively quiet when we reached the bed where Juliet was half sitting half lying down. She was pale and her hair was a mess, and dried blood was sticking to her forehead, her torso which was covered by bandages and on one cheek.
-I can't look too ugly to get those looks, can I, Daddy? He asked making puppy dog eyes at daddy.
I rolled my eyes as I snorted. Jace let out a low chuckle and daddy smiled at him as he gave him a kiss.
My sister was in perfect condition.
-You couldn't ever be ugly princess even if you wanted to-. Dad confesses to her and she smiles gratefully.
-But it doesn't hurt to fix that scarecrow look you have. I interrupt without being able to help it and I get a slap on Julian's arm.
Ouch, okay, got it, no joking about how my sister looks when she's just had a stroke.
Message picked up.
-Oh Jackson, I wish stupidity could be fixed as easily as my scarecrow appearance. Too bad miracles don't exist brother-.
I growl under my breath but deep down inside my wolf and I were relieved to see her safe and sound.
-Sister, I know you're tired, but I don't think we can take any more of this intrigue. What exactly happened in the forest? One second we were hunting a damn rabbit and the next you were howling for help. You had us all worried sick.
Jace asks his twin and she loses her smile and grimaces.
-I don't really understand what the hell happened either, I was chasing the furball when I felt like I was being watched again.
-Again? Dad interrupts reproachfully and my sister blushes before nodding.
-Since the night of our transformation, I've had the feeling that someone is watching me. I thought I was crazy because it was clear that on none of the occasions was there anyone else besides me. Although now that I think about it maybe I was wrong about that. Anyway, the feeling was stronger than the previous ones so I got defensive. I didn't want to run away, something told me it wasn't the right thing to do. A white wolf attacked me shortly after while an archer was shooting arrows at me. I didn't expect it and I must admit that I was shot down very easily.
Juliet tells me and in her tone I can see how angry she is that she was seriously wounded. But it doesn't compare to the rage that consumes my father. Even the temperature in the room rises.
-What else happened? Julian asks in a serene tone but just as annoyed as everyone else. Juliet opens her mouth but hesitates, shakes her head and drops it on the headboard of the bed.
-In one of the attacks I hit my head and everything is blurry from there, I couldn't really concentrate on what I was hearing or seeing. But I do remember one specific scent. It came after the fight and only lingered for a short time before disappearing again. Forest, chocolate and wine. Julieta sighs and a smile tugs at her lips, we all tense up and she notices it so she erases the smile but looks at us very seriously, her silver eyes acquiring that look similar to my mother's -My mate, I didn't see him well and I couldn't put a face or describe his silhouette, but I would recognize that scent anywhere in the world, it was him-.
Dad lets out another grunt that echoes ours. Because yes, all four of us growled at the same time and menacingly at the mention of that wolf.
At least he wasn't the one who hurt her.
Juliet rolls her eyes at our reactions but says nothing, instead her eyes sweep over us and a slight panic takes over her features.
-Where's mom? She asks in a whisper.
Oh yes, sis, you're right to fear for your partner's life, if he falls into my mother's clutches, well, she'll make him scream for a long time before handing him over to you.
-Hunting those who put you here. I was the one who dared to answer when everyone was silent.
Cowards.
Juliet closes her eyes and lies down completely on the bed.
-Goddess of the Moon, don't let my mother murder my mate before you let me at least give her a slap.
She says as a prayer and Julian hides a laugh with a cough.
My sister's words also make me smile. The women in this family really were serious business.
-We'd better let you get some rest, dinner will be brought up to bed and I don't want you to get up from this until tomorrow. I'll let you know the moment your mother comes home and she'll tell you everything she knows. Until then get your strength back daughter. Your life as you know it is going to change from this moment on.
Dad says in a sweet tone and strokes his puppy's cheek before motioning for us to leave. We take turns saying goodbye to Juliet who smiles at us as she snuggles into the blankets.
We walk out leaving the door closed, Julian and Jace disappearing into their bedrooms.
But I head for the entrance of the mansion.
I still can't forget that Leonardo left in the midst of the commotion and still hasn't returned.
Where the hell could he have gone?
