I am Rae Mckensei

Rae Mckensei

Rae...

Why is your name echoing in my head?

Why

did you run away like that?

Why did I crave her closeness to an increasing extent?

Most importantly.

Having no answers to my questions makes the matter even more desperate.

After the Alpha decided that my presence was no longer necessary, or rather since she abandoned me in her tent that served as a home and I retired to my home, her words kept going round and round in my head.

Making me more and more curious about her person and her pack that no one knew about.

Retreat? run away you mean.

No Mack, I didn't mean that.

Well, it's the truth.

Don't support me my dear wolf thank you.

At your service my dear human.

What was I saying?

Oh yes, after I went home and locked myself in my office to take care of the pack business I had left unfinished. I realized that I wasn't going to be able to concentrate on everyday office tasks, so I did as much as I could before heading to the gym to work out and vent some of the frustration inside me.

Or at least that's what I kept telling myself, but the real reason was a very different one.

For I still couldn't get over the shiver that ran through me from head to toe when I was so close to the Alpha, the stinging sensation in my fingertips from touching her and stroking her skin to see if she was as smooth as she looked. Rae's.

My hands burned with the need to touch her, to hold her in my arms, to smell the fragrance she gave off. Crazy, wasn't it?

I hadn't felt this way since Ana...

And I didn't know how to react to all the sensations that were overwhelming me overnight. I seriously considered going to talk to Noel or someone to explain what was happening to me and get their advice or opinion, but in the end I dismissed it.

I had been punching the punching bag for a while, ignoring my surroundings, when Noel opens the gym door and walks quickly to the corner where I am standing.

-Alpha. He calls my name and I look at him out of the corner of my eye as I continue with my work.

-What's going on, Noel? I asked turning to look at him.

-It's time for training with the other herd.

-What time is it? I stopped looking around for a watch without success.

-You still have twenty minutes to shower and get to the paddock. He informed me and I exhaled with relief.

-Okay, thanks. I really do have the best Beta in the world.

He bows his head and leaves the way he came.

I follow his example and grab my stuff to leave for home, when I arrive I run up the stairs and take the fastest bath of my life, I haven't finished putting on my shirt when I'm already going out the front door to run and arrive on time to the meadow where we train with Silver Moon's Alpha.

It was still weird to think of them as a pack and not a ball of rouges.

When I finally arrived I was relieved to see that I was only a few minutes late, I looked around for my Beta and hurried to catch up with him. We stand there without doing or saying anything, just like the others, the Alpha has not arrived and that seems very strange to me, for what I have learned from her is that she always arrives before anyone else and hates unpunctuality.

Almost fifteen minutes later she finally shows up.

She is breathing heavily as if she has just run a marathon, her clothes are covered in dirt and leaves, her hair is totally disheveled like a bird's nest, however, when she reaches us she just takes a deep breath before she starts talking like it's nothing. -Sorry I'm late, this time we'll do the exercise differently, form a fighting circle.

We all set off to do it, once finished she closes her eyes, but her face gestures and her eyes move behind her closed eyelids, from which I deduce that she is talking to someone through the link.

My suspicions are confirmed when a group of people emerge from the same path she came in, it's a large group, and as I count them I realize they are one less than us.

The wolves stand in the middle of each of us, so that we are intertwined one of their pack, one of us, one of their pack, one of us, and so on.

-Okay, this is what we will do," Rae spoke again as she walked among all of us, "You will face the person on your right with the same type of exercise we have practiced, but in your wolf form, I want NO injuries, remember this stage is only to evaluate mental strength, the Beta will face me as well as your Alpha.

He declared with a monotonous voice, but when he mentioned me I could see how his eyes changed, it was only for a second, but I'm almost sure I glimpsed a hint of pain or sadness.

The confrontations began, the wolves in my pack were large, all with some golden hues in their fur or eyes, making them easy to identify.

In some they stood imposing and menacing declaring themselves winners, in others some crouched submissively while their gaze reflected the shame of having lost. However, my chest swelled with pride as none gave up early. They were all giving the best they could and as Alpha I couldn't ask for anything more than that.

When it was Noel's turn, he walked with a tense body to the center of the circle, and stood there for a second before dropping to his knees on the ground and beginning his transformation.

I could hear the sound of his bones snapping and rearranging, and in the blink of an eye my beloved disappeared and in his place a white and light brown wolf with yellow eyes bared his teeth and began to growl dangerously.

My pack watched with smirks of satisfaction and expressions of triumph.

Clearly they had forgotten who he was going up against.

My gaze shifted to where Rae was standing, she was leaning against a nearby tree, one foot leaning against the trunk and the other planted on the ground with her arms crossed as she watched my Beta with boredom, dare I say even amusement as well. As soon as the Silver Moon wolves turned to look at their Alpha their gazes were also filled with excitement and pride.

She let out a tired sigh before she started walking towards the center of the circle where my Beta's wolf was waiting for her with a defensive stance, before she reached her height her body started to twitch in a creepy way.

Her arms twisted breaking, her neck likewise moved from right to left and we could all hear the snapping of her bones; however, she did not stop walking at any moment, until her legs began the transformation also forcing her to stop and fall to her knees. From her mouth some long and hungry fangs came out while she started to growl, her beautiful silver eyes, the ones that enchanted and hypnotized me changed as well, her pupils were torn until they became a very thin line, making her look somber. As soon as the fur started to grow and come out covering her skin her clothes tore and fell to the side already useless.

In the blink of an eye the human disappeared, revealing a wolf of enormous black size that rose to its full height to bark in warning at its adversary.

Everyone remained silent, admiring the animal in front of them, admiring her, fearing her.

While my warriors remained static without making a sound, her warriors began to shout excitedly while raising their fists to the sky as a sign of support.

I watched as my friend's wolf bristled his back and bared his teeth as he tried his best not to back down in the face of the Alpha's imposing presence.

But Rae walked calmly until she was in front of him, Noel barked in her direction, which apparently turned on a switch in her, because her calm and carefree attitude disappeared so that her posture transformed to a threatening one.

The black she-wolf began to growl as her figure grew a little larger due to her stance, they looked into each other's eyes for a second, a single second.

But it was enough for my Beta to look away and start screaming as if he was hurt, he lowered his head in a submissive sign while he carved his face with his paws, Rae calmed down and his countenance returned to a carefree one.

My friend's wolf disappeared and Noel in his human form took his place, he was on his knees with his eyes fixed on the ground, he slowly stood up and walked to my side with his shoulders slumped.

I knew it was my turn, so I started to walk to take the place where I had been moments before, but Noel grabbed my arm stopping me as he gave me a warning look and pushed a single word into my mind through the link. Watch out.
