Chapter 55

Originally, the plan was to use thisaituation to smear Elara, making everyone think she was just a terrible person. But unexpectedly, Elara turned the tables.

Now, everyone knew that Asher had confessed to Elara and been rejected. Daphne glared at Elara angrily, wanting to argue but unable to replace the right words in the moment.

Elara's lips curled into a smile as she spoke lightly. "Oh, don't be mad. I know you only said that because you care about Asher, Daphne, I know you're truly devoted to him, otherwise you wouldn't be standing up for him right now "But really, you can relax. Asher likes you a lot. He's only using me to get back at you because you two had a fight. Deep down, the person he cares about the most is still you.

"Everyone here knows that, right? He used to treat you so well. Whenever you were sick, he was the most worried. So, you two should be together. Don't let any misunderstandings arise because of me."

After saying that, Elara glanced at Asher. "Aren't you going to explain things to your sweetheart? You told me before that only wanted to be with me to upset her, didn't you?" Asher lifted his head, looking at Elara. She said all of this so casually as if it were nothing. It was true that there was an element of him wanting to get back at Daphne before. But now

But now, hearing Elara say this left Asher feeling embarrassed.

E YOU

What does she mean? I said I wanted to be with her, and she just rejected me? Everyone knew she used to be so into me, but now that I'm serious about her, she's treating me like I'm just some simp? he thought. Back on his birthday, Asher thought he'd hit rock bottom in terms of embarrassment. He never imagined Elara would humiliate him once again. This was the second time.

Even when she suggested he surpass Lysander, it had all been to make fun of him. Elara had always been close to Lysander, and the way she treated him wasn't an act

As Asher thought it over, he realized that other than asking her father to help him that one time, Elara hadn't really done anything for him.

In fact, Elara didn't even want to walk to and from school with him each day. It turned out Elara found him embarrassing thinking he wasn't worthy to be with her.

Staring at her, Asher said, "Elara, I gave you a chance. You're the one who didn't want it

Asher had been sincere about wanting to be with her, but not only had she shown no gratitude, she'd treated him like this. Hmph. I was the fool, letting her play me like that, he thought.

She then turned to Daphne. "Daphne, Asher really does treat you well. I'm honestly a bit envious of you. Look at me. I gave him everything I had, but all he ever cared about was you."

"He treats you so much better. I'm quite envious of you too, Surely, you wouldn't let him down, would you?"

-Daphne glanced at Asher, who looked utterly shattered, and realized that Elara was truly a cruel woman.

Of course, Daphne wasn't going to act like Elara.

Seeing everyone's eyes on her, Daphne responded, "Asher and I are none of your business. I only thought about stepping aside for you because you seemed to like him so much. I didn't expect you to be this terrible." 1/3

"Yeah, I'm the terrible one, Flara replied calmly. "Not like you, who's so perfect. If I were Asher. I'd marry you no matter

what."

After class, Elara went to the teacher to request a seat change. Since her grades had improved significantly over the last semester, the teacher readily agreed to help her switch seats.

Elara moved to sit next to a girl she rarely interacted with, far away from Asher. People used to think Elara was just messing around. But when they saw her actually moving away from Asher, they realized she was serious. After class. Asher didn't go to lunch. Daphne, sitting beside him, looked over. "Not eating?"

"You go ahead. I'm not hungry." Asher simply couldn't bring himself to eat.

"TH bring something up for you," Daphne offered. Seeing how miserable he was, she couldn't just leave him like that.

Asher lifted his head and looked at Daphine. "Why did you have to bring her up in front of everyone!"

If Daphne hadn't spoken, none of this would've happened.

Daphne hadn't expected Asher to be mad at her. "I was just trying to stand up for you."

"Don't you think that makes you look stupid?" Asher couldn't contain his anger. Even in front of Daphne, he couldn't control his emotions. "Great, now everyone knows I was the one who went after Elara."

Daphne regretted her actions. "I really didn't expect her to turn out like this. I thought if I said something, she'd reflect on herself. I didn't think she...

"I should've never listened to you, gone and made peace with her in the first place. Now I've handed her the perfect weapon against me." Asher fumed

"Alright, Daphne quickly apologized. "It's my fault. I didn't think it through. I had no idea Elara would turn into this person, She's so different now, cold and ruthless. It's like the typical mequality that if I can't have you, I'll destroy you." Asher's face remained stern, and he said nothing more. Luckily, he had always known you could only rely on yourself. He never counted on Elara to help him. During the winter break, he'd been busy working part-time. Daphne looked at him, clearly worried. "What are you going to do now? What about college!"

"It's fine," Asher replied. "I have a scholarship. I can work. If I get into college, I'm sure I'll figure out the money."

Now that he was eighteen, Asher could open his own bank account. He'd been saving up all his earnings, ensuring his father wouldn't steal from him again

That afternoon, after school, Asher returned to the Kensington residence, packed up his belongings, and prepared to move

OUL

Elara, seeing how eager he was, was a bit surprised. "Not staying

"Stay and let you laugh at me?" Asher looked at her, the person who'd humiliated him in front of their classmates: "Elara, do you feel proud of yourself?"

Elara turned her head, looking away, refusing to answer, Seeing her indifferent attitude, Asher snapped, "I was serious abou being with you. I even thought about cutting off all ties with Daphne. But you're just not worth it."

"Hmph," Elara couldn't even be bothered to respond. Seeing her maintain her superior attitude, Asher added, "I can't wait to see you get dumped by Lysander. Let's see how miserable you are then. Don't come crying to me when it happens."

With that, he stormed out-He had once thought Elara wanted in to stay for his own good. Now he realized she had been waiting to humiliate him, savoring the day he'd leave on his own,

Since it was the last semester befor the SATS, everyone was working hard. Elara was studying diligently too. Lysander still came over to tutor her and sometimes even picked her up from school.

Two months passed, and Asher still hadn't seen Elara get dumped by Lysander.

In May, Elara remembered the promise she made to her dad and called him, asking him to come back and help her prepare

for the SATS

Honestly, she was already satisfied with her grades. Even if she didn't get into Queensun University, she was confident she'd get into a decent school. But her dad had to come back.

Barrett promised he'd return by May 10th. Elara remembered it was in late May when Barrett had his accident. If he could come back before the 10th, maybe nothing would happen. However, that afternoon, while Elara was still at school, she received a call from Steven "Elara, your dad's been in an accident.
