After Death, Love Unveiled (Elara and Lysander) -
Unveiled 57
Chapter 57
Elara glanced at him. "You will?"
He looked back at her, silent but determined. With no other choice, Elara sat down on the stool. Lysander stood in front of her, grabbing a towel to gently dry her damp hair before picking up the hairdryer and starting to blow her hair. Watching his serious reflection in the mirror, Elara asked, "Have you ever dried sorneone else's hair before?"
"No, I haven't." He quietly looked at her. "What made you think that?"
Elara replied, "Seeing you blow-dry my hair, I thought maybe you've done this for someone else."
"No." Lysander continued drying her hair strand by strand. For awhile, the only sound in the hotel room was the hum of the hairdryer.
Although Elara was sitting there, today had been anything but peaceful. On the way here, she had imagined all sorts of worst-case scenarios, fearing it would be just like last time, losing her father again. Luckily, it was just a false alarm. By the time Lysander finished drying her hair, Elara was so tired she felt like she could fall asleep right there. Lysander looked at her and noticed how genuinely exhausted she seemed.
'Of course. She's been crying the whole way here. She must be worn out, he thought.
He turned off the hairdryer and said to her, "Go to bed
Elara stood up, walked over to the bed, and slipped under the covers, pulling them up to hide herself. A moment later, she opened her eyes and saw Lysander already coming out of the bathroom.
He had taken off his dress shirt, now wearing just a white T-shirt underneath
"Are you going somewhere?" Elara asked.
Lysander shook his head. "No, I'm not going anywhere. Fm staying right here. I can't leave you alone."
In a strange city, Lysander didn't feel comfortable leaving her by herself. Especially since Elara clearly wasn't happy today, probably worried about her father.
"Where are you going to sleep? Elara asked. As soon as she spoke. Lysander had already pulled out a spare blanket from the closet and spread it out on the floor. "I'll sleep down here."
He started making a bed on the floor, while Elara didn't bother to stop him. After a while, he turned off the room lights and lay down.
The curtains were open, and some of the streetlights from outside trickled in. But it had rained earlier, so the lights weren't that bright. Elara turned over, hearing his quiet breathing mixed with the soft patter of rain outside. ""Lysander," she called.
"I'm here," Lysander responded, thinking she needed something and sat up. He glanced over at the bed, but Elara was still lying down. Her voice was soft and lazy. "Thank you for coming with rue today," When she first got the news, Elara had only thought about rushing over herself. She hadn't even asked for his help, but Lysander had taken time off and accompanied her, staying by her side the whole time. Lysander lay back down and said, "No need to thank me
Elara was always polite with him. He rested his head back on the pillow. T'm just glad Mr. Kensington is okay."

Elara added, "If you hadn't been with me today, I think I would felt completely helpless
The long drive, the heavy rain. It was his presence that made everything feel solid and reassuring
"Just go to sleep, Lysander softly said: Elara had slept through the night. When she woke up, sunlight was streaming into the room. Yesterday's rain had stopped, Sitting up in bed, she saw Lysander coming out of the bathroom. His face was freshly washed, his hair slightly damp, giving him a livelier appearance than usual.
Elara had always thought he looked like someone who had just stepped out of a movie
"Morning," she said. Lysander walked to the door, picked up a bag and brought it over. They bought some clothes for you."
"Thank you," Elara replied, feeling relieved. She hadn't brought any clothes with her yesterday, and now she finally had something fresh to change into. She glanced at Lysander, "You're up so early?" "Yeah," Lysander nodded. Elara eyed him carefully. "Did you even sleep"
She remembered his troubles with sleeping. Lysander glanced at her. "I slept alright"
Compared to other nights, last night had been better for him. Every time he woke up and saw her lying next to him, hearing her gentle, steady breathing as she slept, he felt a sense of peace
After changing into clean clothes, the two headed downstairs for breakfast. They hadn't eaten much last night after coming back from the hospital.
Elara, who had been too worried to have an appetite then, felt much better after a good night's sleep. Elara even bought breakfast to bring to the hospital for her father.
When they arrived, Monica was already there, despite still recovering from her own injuries. She was sitting beside Barrett, carefully feeding him water through a straw before placing the cup back on the table.
"Mr. Kensington," Monica said. "Though your life wasn't in danger this time, don't you think you've been spoiling Miss Kensington a bit too much?"
Harrett raised his head, giving her a sharp look. "What do you mean?"
"I just think that sometimes... maybe you shouldn't indulge her so much." Monica suggested.
"Monica," Barrett's voice turned cold. "How long have you worked for me? When did Elara's matters become something for you to comment on?"
Monica, realizing her mistake, quickly apologized. "I'm sorry. I just feel that... this time, it was almost because of her that you got hurt."
This was an accident. It had nothing to do with her. Barrett warned her sternly. "If you ever speak like that again, don't blame me if there's no room for you here."
welled up with tears as she cast a quick glance at the man in front of her. She had been working for "Yes, sir." Monica's eyes him for so many years now, starting as a fresh graduate who joined his company as his secretary. Over the years, she had learned a lot from him. Barrett was usually willing to teach her. Whenever she made mistakes he never held it against her, often comforting her afterward.
But no matter how kind he was to her, whenever it came to Elara, Barrett would always become strict. Monica knew she had no right to speak about Elara. Seeing how displeased Barrett looked, she left the room quietly. Standing outside, Elara and Lysander witnessed Monica walking past without saying a word. Elara glanced at Lysander

beside her.

Elara had always thought of Monica as nothing more than her father's secretary. But now it seemed their relationship was more complicated than she had imagined.
Since his wife's passing, Barrett had never remarried, and Elara had never seen another wornan by his side. She had always thought it was because he was too busy with work to consider remarriage.
Now, it seemed like Barrett didn't want Elara to know the whole story. Elara and Lysander walked into the room. "Hi, Dad," she called out.
Barrett, who had been in a foul mood after Monica left, immediately brightened up when he saw Elara. "Elara, you're here so early?"
"I was worried about you, so I came by. I brought you breakfast, Elara said.
Lysander placed the breakfast on the side table and started unpacking it. "How are you feeling today?" Elara asked.
"I'm alright, Barrett replied. Elara frowned. "Alright? Look at you. Your face is pale as a sheet.
The wounds from his accident were still fresh. Yesterday, the pain had been dulled by numbness, but after a night's rest, the pain was sending in.
Elara tried to feed him some food, but Barrett could barely eat and only managed to drink a bit of soup. Elara asked, "Dad, did you just scold Monic
