Chapter 58

Barrett's gaze landed on her. "You beard everything"

Elara responded, "She's just worried about you."

Elara's intention was simple. She wanted her father to stay home for a few days and avoid a disaster. Macy would only bring him new troubles. Elara couldn't help but wonder if Barrett was destined for this misfortune. Barrett turned to Elara. "It's only right that I stay home with you. By the way, there's nothing left for you here. You and Lysander should head back. Chloe's here today as well. With them taking care of things, I'll be fine." Elara wasn't ready to leave just yet. "Can't I go back with you?"

She was genuinely worried and wanted to stay by her father's side. With everything that had happened, Elara felt uneasy about leaving him to face the disaster alone.

Barrett smiled warmly at her. "Look at Elara

you. You're not a little kid anymore, still clinging to me Lysander, please take back. She has exams coming up, and she needs to focus on her studies"

Lysander nodded. "Of course."

Elara glanced at Lysander. Seeing that Barrett had made up his mind, she didn't insist on staying. Barrett was out of immediate danger and was recovering now, so there wasn't much more she could do for him. She finally spoke up. "Dad, I had a dream."

"What kind of dream?" Barrett asked.

Elara hesitated for a moment. "I dreamed that right before my SATS, you went on a business trip, and there was a landslide on the highway. I never saw you again after that.

"I'm not trying to be difficult by asking you to stay home with me. I'm just scared. I thought if you stayed home, nothing like that would happen. But even now, you've still been hurt

Even though Barrett was safe for now, the danger hadn't completely passed. Elara couldn't shake her concern and felt the need to warn him.

Hearing her words, Barrett chuckled softly, somewhat helplessly. Dreams are the opposite of reality. How can you still be like a little kid at your age?"

Elara's eyes reddened with emotion, and she murmured, "But everything felt so real in the dream. I even remember the exact date, May 26th. The accident happened on the highway between Lodorwood and Soward Mount." Seeing how seriously she was taking this, Barrett nodded. "Alright, I understand. Once I'm discharged, I'll go straight home and stay with you until your exams are over. I won't go anywhere, okay?"

"Elara may have grown up, but she's still just a kid. Barrett thought. Otherwise, she woulda't be saying such childish things.

Elara nodded. "Okay."

Seeing that her father had taken her words to heart, Elara finally felt at ease. She left with Lysander, walking out of the hospital

Monica, who had just returned from outside, stood by the door and gave Elara a polite nod. Despite her disagreements with Elara, Monica didn't want to be sent away by Barrett. Chapter 58

Elara and Lysander returned to Brookfield. By the time they arrived, it was already afternoon, and neither of them went to school. Instead, they decided to stay in and rest for a while. Elara went to her room and collapsed on the bed. Seeing how completely at home she was, Lysander suggested. "Maybe I should wait for you downstairs."

"Just sit here," Elara said, glancing at him, noticing his awkwardness. She sat up with a playful grin. "We spent the night together yesterday, and you're still this nervous?"

For a moment, Lysander didn't know how to respond. He glanced at Elara, speechless. "Nonsense"

Elara looked at him confidently. "How is that nonsense? Didn't we sleep in the same room last night? What are 'you' thinking?"

Lysander heard Elara and said, "Why don't you just rest for now I'll skip the lesson today."

"Are you mad at me?" Elara asked.

"No," Lysander replied. "You don't always have to push yourself so hard. Taking a break is important. I'll come by tomorrow."

Elara nodded. "Alright, you're probably tired too."

Lysander had been with her all day and was still expected to tutor her. It really was a bit unreasonable.

Elara sat on the bed, waiting for him to leave, but just as he reached the door, he paused and turned back to look as her. Feeling a bit uneasy under his gaze, Elara looked at him in confusion. "What is it?" "That dream you mentioned to Mr. Kensington, Lysander said. He had been wanting to ask about it the whole way back.

"What about it?" Elara asked.

Seeing the puzzled look on her face, Lysander said, "Nothing"

He turned and left, dropping the question. Lysander had wanted to ask, but seeing her reaction, he decided against it.

After Lysander left, Elara rested for a bit until Ursa came to get her for dinner. She felt much better after her nap and headed downstairs.

"Oh, by the way, I saw Asher earlier," Ursa said.

The mention of his name snapped Elara fully awake. "Where did you see him?"

"At the front door," Ursa replied.

After dinner, Elara and Ursa took the dog out for a walk. Elara held Cotton's leash, and sure enough, they saw Asher standing near the front gate. As soon as Cotton spotted him, the dog started barking aggressively, Cotton only behaved around Lysander, but he always bared his teeth at Asher.

Elara thought back to before her time travel, remembering how much Cotton had hated Asher then, too. At the time, she thought Cotton was just being difficult, but now she realized the real problem had been her. "What are you lurking around my house for? Planning to steal something?" Elara asked sarcastically.

Asher had been waiting at the gate for quite some time. After the recent argument with Elars, he felt it would be humiliating to reach out first, but curiosity had gotten the better of him.

"I heard Mr. Kensington had an accident. How is he?" he asked Jefferson had been the one to inform Asher about the incident, urging him to check in on Barrett.

Remembering how kind Barrett had always been to him, Asher mustered up the courage to come and ask.

"He's still in the hospital," Elara answered.

"Then why are you back here?" Asher asked.

"Why? I'm not allowed to go back to school? You sure are nosy, Elara snapped, walking Cotton ahead. Asher, wary of the dog, kept his distance, following cautiously behind.

"I wanted to visit Mr. Kensington," he said, carefully.

"That's not necessary," Elara replied coldly. 'No need for you to pretend you care"

Elara had a hard time believing Asher's sudden concern. After all, her father's accident reminded her of the way Asher used to act before she time-traveled, and it didn't sit well with her.

She wore a casual T-shirt paired with pink harem pants, her shadow stretching long under the streetlights. She didn't bother saying much more to Asher, instead choosing to play with Cotton Ursa glanced at Asher and spoke up. "Mr. Blackwood, you should probably head home. Miss Kensington has a fiance now.
