Chapter 24 Now You’re Challenging Me

When Aiden heard that, he couldn’t help but sneer in secret. He never dared imagine that his mother- in-law would talk so kindly to him someday. The world was changing along with the people in it. At the moment of his return, everything had changed.

“Hello.” Aiden smiled as he stuck out a hand at the well-dressed man.

“Hello.” The man bowed slightly as he shook Aiden’s hand with both hands. Aiden’s title as the Webb Family’s benefactor was significant enough that even if the man couldn’t be on good terms with Aiden, he mustn’t offend the latter.

Essentially, Aiden was depending on the Webb Family’s reputation at the moment. He was a little unaccustomed to having to depend on someone else’s reputation all of a sudden, but such was the way of the world. It was just a slight discomfort, and he got used to it quickly.

“This is my name card. I hope we can work together in the future, Mr. Finnegan,” the man said with a smile.

“Sure.” Aiden nodded lightly.

Events like this didn’t allow for much casual talk. The gatherings of the upper-class society were for establishing connections instead of making friends. The well-dressed man was a social butterfly, for he quickly struck up a decent conversation with a woman after a quick tour around the area.

Meanwhile, Harvey’s face was red in embarrassment as he looked at Aiden. As for Linda, when she met Aiden’s gaze, she quickly lowered her head. If Angelina hated Aiden, and the hatred turned into disgust, Linda served as the aggravator for those emotions. Now that her useless son-in-law had made his comeback, Linda was nervous. After all, just a few days ago, she was even thinking of matching Angelina with someone else..

“When we go back, ask Angelina to take you on a shopping trip. Buy some nice clothes so that people won’t mock you,” Linda said as she looked at Aiden.

She had never bothered about these things before, so her words were a sign that she had surrendered and acknowledged Aiden.

“That won’t be necessary!” However, Aiden shook his head instead.

“What do you mean? You have to reconcile after every argument!” Linda said.

Aiden smiled faintly as he replied, “How are we supposed to reconcile when the relationship is barely even there?!”

With that, he turned to look at Angelina. Just as expected, Angelina did not say a word and was fuming instead. She had given Aiden an inch, but he was asking for a mile!

Embarrassment hung on Harvey’s and Linda’s faces when they heard Aiden’s words. Throughout their three years of marriage, Angelina never once allowed Aiden to touch her. Harvey and Linda’s silence on the matter played a part as well. Harvey was alright, but Linda had always been unapproving.

Their conversation died after taking an awkward turn. Several guests came over and greeted Aiden, and

when Angelina saw how confidently Aiden talked to the others, she acknowledged the man for the first time in forever.

Aiden had truly changed, and he was no longer meek like he was before. Of course, Angelina was most appreciative of the fact that even when his status changed, this man was still reserved and humble.

She wanted Aiden to gain significant achievements, but she didn’t want him to let it get to his head either.

“Someone’s looking for me; the Webb Family probably has something to say. Let’s go home after that,” Aiden said calmly as he looked at the three.

Angelina nodded lightly in response. Meanwhile, Lucas was already making his way over to them.

“Mr. Finnegan, Mr. William wishes to see you,” Lucas said respectfully while looking at Aiden.

“Alright.” Aiden nodded slightly.

“I hope you’re getting used to these functions,” Lucas uttered with a smile as they walked.

Aiden gave Lucas an indifferent look. Lucas was quite the calculating man; his words seemed like a harmless remark, but it was a sign that he looked down on Aiden.

Other than giving him an indifferent look, Aiden didn’t respond to Lucas at all. He walked into the inner hall to see the two people from that day standing there. The man seemed to be in great health, and he had recovered a lot. His life was saved.

William thanked Aiden again as soon as they met. Despite everything, the Webb Family’s attitude was impeccable. Their constant gratitude was proof of their sincerity, for Aiden had met people who acted indifferent about receiving help before. “Please, you don’t have to be so courteous. I’m not used to that,” Aiden said as he looked at the young master of the Webb Family, smiling.

“Oh, I don’t mean anything else. I just want to meet my savior. Have a seat,” said William with a smile.

“What do you do for a living, Mr. Finnegan?” William then asked smilingly.

“I’m planning to open a clinic. That way, I’ll make some allowance to get by,” Aiden answered with a smile.

“With your skills, Mr. Finnegan, if opening a clinic is only enough for you to get by, I wonder how many doctors in this world are actually earning enough to make it in life.” William joked.

The specialists at Prime Hospital who had treated him all praised Aiden’s methods and wanted to get to know him, but William didn’t make any promises.

“A clinic? You haven’t settled on a location yet, have you, Mr. Finnegan?” Just then, Lucas interrupted.

Aiden smiled lightly, deciding not to comment on that. They could even replace out where he lived, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that they knew all this.

“If so, that means you haven’t opened for business, yes? When you’ve opened your clinic, you must tell me about it. My wife and I will employ your services for the rest of our lives,” William continued the topic smilingly.

“Sure, but not for free!” Aiden could see that William was a generous man, so he spoke casually as well

William seemed to be easily entertained, for he guffawed when he heard Aiden’s words. The two had gotten quite familiar with each other in a short amount of time.

After chatting for a bit, Aiden got up to leave, and William insisted on seeing him off. William hadn’t ́made an appearance at the banquet today, but he felt obliged to see his savior off. Aiden didn’t object

to that.

As he walked out, Aiden found Angelina right away. However, at that moment, a man with a shining face was standing next to Angelina. The man was wearing a suit, and the smile on his face was unsettling at best.

He seemed to be getting close to Angelina on purpose. It was too noisy, and Aiden couldn’t hear what the man was saying since he was far away. However, judging from Angelina’s expression, he could guess that the man wasn’t saying anything nice at all.

“Now you’re challenging me.” A cold glint surfaced in Aiden’s eyes.

Even though he had decided to leave the Gray Family, he hadn’t done so just yet, and Angelina was still legally his wife.

If anyone dared to hit on Angelina, Aiden wouldn’t mind letting that guy have a taste of unbridled

power.

Just then, the man suddenly put his hand on Angelina’s waist. Angelina took a step back and grabbed a wine glass from the table, then splashed the wine onto the man’s face. Angered, the man raised his hand to slap her. Aiden wanted to stop him, but it was already too late.

Rage boiled in Aiden’s eyes, and William suddenly realized that the man had disappeared from his sight.
