Alpha Queen -
Chapter 77
Liviana’s POV
“My father wants to personally meet you” he said and it was as if the time stopped and so did my breathing.
The King wants me to meet me?
“There’s a party in the palace tomorrow night. He expects the both of you to be present” Beau voiced out.
“My father invited you to the party, Liviana” Luan said.
I gulped.
“What?” I spat.
“The King wants to meet you—“
“I heard and understood it the first time. What I mean is why? Why so suddenly and why in general?” I said with my brows furrowed.
“Well, for one, because he was in the dark with Luan’s mate situation” Abe said.
“Two, he’s the only child” Cassandra said.
“And three, he’s the first prince and the next king” the 3 of them said in unison.
I massaged the bridge of my nose in frustration.
Of course.
What answer did I even expect?
“Liviana” Luan said softly as he placed his hand on my back.
I looked at him with my ‘what are we supposed to do now’ look.
“Can we talk in private?” I said or more like demanded. Luan nodded.
Theresa came in with the helpers and served breakfast to the guests while I dragged Luan to the meeting room for a private ‘talk’.
As soon as I closed the doors, I turned and looked at him with a glare.
“What the hell happened and why do I need to meet your father so soon?” I immediately asked.
Luan sighed and reached out for me.
I stepped back and he sighed.
“I went to the palace last night. I had to tell my father about us because if I didn’t, my uncle will” he started.
“I told him that you’re Liviana Crest, the Alpha of Crescent Moon pack. He also asked who your parents are but I said they’d been long gone” he explained.
“What else?” I asked him.
“He asked how and when we met” he said.
“What did you tell him?” I asked a little nervous.
If the King happens to know that day and replaces out that it’s also the same day as the day of my birth and if he knows of my existence as King Kale Alaric’s child, he may soon replace out my secret identity.
“I told him we met as soon as I started school” he said and I sighed in relief.
I bit my lower l*p.
“I can’t meet your father, Luan. I shouldn’t. It’ll be too risky” I said.
“Don’t you trust me?” he asked hopeful.
“I do. I trust you. But I can’t say the same to your father” I said and eyed him.
“Have you realized yet why my uncle doesn’t trust you?” I asked him. Luan’s brows furrowed confused.
“It wasn’t just because of you, Luan. At first, he simply didn’t trust you because we just met. But the main reason why he refuses to acknowledge our relationship is because he probably because of the fact that your the King’s son” I told him.
“What do you mean?” he asked confused.
I sighed.
“My uncle Dante doesn’t trust the King and he most likely despise him. That’s why he’s just as hostile to you” I said.
“He probably knows something we don’t know. I don’t think he’ll telk me anytime soon but his actions tell me there’s something really important
I leaned on the meeting table as I put my hands on my head.
Why does this have to happen to me?
“Liviana” Luan called softly as he tried to reach out to me again.
I motioned for him to stop.
“Can you please leave me alone for a moment? I need some time to think and cool off” I said.
Luan sighed and nodded before leaving the room with a disappointed expression.
I closed my eyes tightly as I took deep calming breaths.
After multiple failed attempts, I decided to leave the meeting room.
I went out from the back door and immediately shifted to my wolf.
I sprinted into the woods and into the direction of my ‘safe place’.
I needed a better environment to take everything in.
And I definitely needed someone’s guidance for this one.
After a while, I finally arrived at my safe place.
I jumped to the water and shifted.
I stayed below for a little while until I fan finally feel my lungs give out.
I emerged from the water in my human form.
“A lot on your mind, I see”
I turned and saw the goddess sitting comfortably by a rock.
“Hello, dearest Liviana” she said with a smile on her face.
I swam to the side and into a bush.
I dried myself off and put on a pair of clothing that I kept in this place.
I go here often to swim or maybe just enjoy the scenery when I need to empty out my mind and think.
“How are you, moon goddess?” I asked as soon as I got out of the bush.
“Shouldn’t I be the one asking you that question?” the moin goddess said with a chuckle.
I sighed.
“Anyway, I’m fine, dear. Thank you for asking. Now, come here and sit with me. I’m sure you need to vent out a few concerns of yours” she said.
I made my way to the moon goddess and sat beside her.
“How are you, my child?” she asked softly.
I looked at her and my eyes immediately watered.
“Moon goddess, I’m…scared” I confessed.
The moon goddess gently pulled me to her and placed my head on her shoulder as she wrapped me in her embrace.
“Shhhh. It’s okay. You’re safe here. No one can hurt you here” she cooed as she gently caressed my hair.
I took deep calming breaths while the moon goddess whispered assuring words to me.
After a while, I was finally able to calm down.
“Would you like to tell me now what’s bothering you exactly?” the moon goddess asked as she tucked in a lose strand of my hair behind my ear.
I took a deep breath.
“The current King knows me” I told her.
The moon goddess sighed.
“And?” she said.
I gulped.
“He wants to meet me” I told her.
“And what do you think about this?” she asked.
“I…I’m not sure” I said as I looked down.
It’s not that I’m scared of my safety. I’m more scared of what can happen to the people around me. I’m scared of what can happen to my fathers” I admitted.
It was never about me.
I wasn’t afraid of getting my life in danger.
But I was terrified of the fact that the people I cherish most may get harmed if my real identity is found out.
Because I can defend myself, I’m worried they may target everyone else I care for.
“Are you ready?” the moon goddess asked and I looked up at her.
“I am. But the people around me…I’m afraid I’ll drag them into this” I said.
The moon goddess held the side of my face.
“Will it make you feel better if I tell you that I promise to keep them safe for you?” she asked.
I looked at her for a moment and nodded.
“Then so be it” she said.
“You’re bound to cross paths sooner or later. Take this as an opportunity. A stepping stone to who you’re destined to be” she said encouragingly.
I nodded.
The moon goddess is right.
I won’t be able to avoid this forever.
“I’ll meet him” I stated and the moon goddess.
“That’s our Liviana” she said and gave me a k**s on the forehead.
After that, I returned to the pack house on bare foot.
Luan has been trying to reach out to me almost as soon as I left the pack house.
He must’ve felt that I left because of the mate bond.
I finally let him in.
“Liviana, where the hell are you?!” he mind linked in frustration.
“I just went out to clear my head. I’m on my way back. Just wait for me at the pack house” I replied.
“You should’ve atleast told me you were going to leave. I was worried, Liviana” he said.
I sighed.
“I’ll be there soon. Let’s properly talk then” I said and cut the link.
I walked faster and finally reached the pack house.
Luan burst out of the door and our eyes met.
He immediately rushed to me and engulfed me in a warm hug.
“You made me worry” he whispered.
I can feel his overwhelming feelings of my sudden departure.
It wasn’t like I was gone for long.
But even I felt empty during that little time that I was apart from him.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to worry you. I just needed to empty my head a bit and calm myself down” I said apologetically.
Luan sighed.
“It’s okay. But please give me a heads up next time. You suddenly ran away and I thought you were really mad at me” he said with a pout.
I chuckled.
“Running away isn’t something I do. I simply ‘went for a run’. Those are two different things, mister” I said and we both chuckled.
“So, we’re you able to think?” he asked. I gave him a small smile and nodded.
“I’ll go” I said and he smiled.
Luan gave me a peck on the lips.
“Don’t worry, okay? I’ll be there by your sude every second of the party” he assured me and I smiled.
“You better” I said and we both chuckled.
Abe, Beau and Cassandra came out.
“Hey, lovebirds. Are you going or what?” Abe asked.
“We’re going” Luan said with a smile.
“Great! It’ll be less boring with Livi there” Cassandra squealed and rushed to my side as she clung onto my arm.
“Tell me again why you guys had to come with Luan to tell me about the party?” I asked.
They clearly didn’t need to come as a group to simply invite me now, did they?
“That’s because we’re here to help you prepare for the party, silly” Cassandra said.
Oh that.
“And to have a little briefing when meeting his highness, the King of Lunar” Beau added and they all nodded in agreement.
And well, that too.
“What’s the plan first?” I asked.
“Shopping, of course. You need something extravagant to wear to the party as his majesty’s date” Cassandra said.
I frowned.
Shopping is my least favorite thing to do.
But I guess the situation calls for it.
“I’ll get dressed now” I said with a sigh.
“Terrific!” Cassandra squealed excitedly.
I stomped my way inside of the pack house.
I can tell that this is going to be a long, tiring and frustrating day.
I’m sure of it.
This is really my decision huh.
Amazing.
