Otis's POV:

Where had Conrad gone?

I looked ahead at the empty yellow sand with some anxiety in my heart.

Conrad had always been a man who kept his word; if he'd said he'd be waiting for me in the direction of the gate, he'd be here, unless something drastic changed.

My gaze became grave as I continued to survey my surroundings.

The werewolves at the gate were still guarding where they were, they didn't look much different from when we arrived, and the commotion of my escape from the back hadn't reached here yet.

If Conrad had stormed the Totem Pack, then these guards would surely have been injured.

Conrad had not entered the Totem Pack!

Could he have returned to the Blue-moon Pack?

Numerous doubts appeared in my mind, and at the same time a vague pain appeared in my heart as Conrad's figure repeatedly appeared inside my mind. What was going on here, what was going on?

As I pondered this, a long roar came from my left side, a loud roar that shot up into the sky and made you wonder if it was the roar of a wild animal.

Kazan had spotted me running away!

The sweat on my body stood up at that moment, Kazan had a terrifying power, and if he caught me, what would happen next would be terrible.

My heart was beating fast, and without further thought, I quickly ran in the direction of the side.

If I fled directly in the direction of their gate, I would surely be spotted by the werewolves on guard, so I had to get out of their sight and take a circular escape route to get back on the road to the Blue-moon Pack! The golden sun was scorching my body, and although it was now afternoon, the sun was still barbecuing the desert with its last rays.

Every grain of sand on the ground exudes a hot temperature as my body weaves through the desert, the Totem Pack buildings slowly moving away behind me.

The soft sand was easy to sink into, but my lithe body didn't suffer too much as I ran at full tilt.

I was confident that even if Kazan's strength was terrifying, he would never be able to catch me!

The sun was reaching the end of the sky and some of its light was being blocked by the horizon, and I stopped in my tracks.

This position was so far away from the Totem Pack that I could barely see the shadow of their buildings.

Finally, I had escaped.

My eyes looked in the other direction, where the Blue-moon Pack was heading.

If I just adjusted an angle and set off in that direction, I would be able to get back to the Blue-moon Pack.

The danger had been lifted, but I frowned at this point.

It was because the pain inside me still hadn't gone away, as if a pin was stuck inside, and I didn't know why that was.

"Otis, I feel a constant pain inside and I have a very bad feeling that this feeling is coming from the direction just ahead!" Eda voiced in my mind and I looked ahead, in the same direction we had come from.

If Conrad had left the entrance to the Totem Pack and hadn't gone inside, then he must have gone back to the Blue-moon Pack.

But why would he suddenly go back to the Blue-moon Pack, when he had already made a deal with me? What the hell was ......

Suddenly another gust of pain came from inside me again, my pain intensified in this moment, my heart seemed to be breaking and I also produced a violent change in my face in this moment.

Had something happened to Conrad because of the pain created by the connection between the partners?

No, it couldn't be, Conrad was the Alpha of the Blue-moon Pack, he had the most power and skill of the entire pack, along with the power of the wolf beads, how could he have had an accident?

I tried desperately to get this thought out of my head, but I couldn't.

No, he would be fine.

I prayed inwardly and at the same time accelerated my speed, using almost all my strength in this moment.

The pressure of the wind ahead of me was getting stronger and stronger, and these winds were blowing against me, and I only needed to advance a little longer before I was able to return to the path we had come from, but a coldness suddenly appeared in my body. Not because of the wind, but because of the coldness that came from inside me.

The endless yellow repeats itself in my vision, and below the horizon there is nothing but desert, where I would have been lost if I hadn't been able to see by the movement of the sun.

Conrad, what has happened to you, why did you leave the gate, why does my heart ache so much?

I ran and kept running with all my strength until at a certain point my pupils contracted sharply.

For I noticed a black dot appearing at the end of the horizon, the centre of my pupils, a black dot that was small but very abrupt inside this endless yellow desert. No, it wasn't, it must not be what I thought.

My heart hissed as I continued to run in the direction of the black dot.

The blurred, tiny black dot gradually became clearer in my pupils and I opened my eyes so wide I almost tore my sockets apart, but nothing changed in front of me. "No, no, Conrad!"

I let out a sad roar, and inside my vision Conrad was buried in the sand in front of me covered in blood, his body unmoving and barely distinguishable from a corpse.

My body trembled uncontrollably, as if a sharp piece of glass was slicing through my mind, and the image of Conrad in my mind cracked.

Suddenly my control over my body was unexpected and my trembling muscles caused me to fall off balance into the desert, the hot gravel slashing across my cheeks while some of it entered my mouth.

I coughed violently, too late to spit the grit out of my mouth as I shook my body and continued to rush towards Conrad.

"Conrad, no, don't leave me!"

As I reached him I instantly transformed into a human, I fell to my knees on the desert and Conrad's body came into clear view.

The blood on his body had long since stained the sand on the ground blood red, countless tiny wounds crawled over his body like blood red worms, his eyes were tightly closed and the corners of his mouth were covered with blood mixed with gravel. What was even more unacceptable to me was the position of his chest, where several areas were dented and his strong body seemed to have turned into an irregularly shaped mass of clay, and it was clear that an unknown number of bones had been broken. It was almost impossible to live with injuries of this magnitude.

Why had he become like this, and who could have hurt him!

I suddenly remembered Kazan's back as he left, when I wondered why he hadn't watched me to prevent me from escaping, was it to deal with Conrad?

Was it Kazan who had injured Conrad like that?

Tears flowed like an uncontrollable flood, anger and sadness almost drove me mad, the wounds on his body were stinging my heart and I finally understood why my heart was aching, it was because of the connection between me and him. "Kazan ...... I'm going to kill you, how dare you do it to Conrad, I'm going to make you go to hell!"

Wet tears dripped onto my hand as I slowly brought my trembling hand up to his nasal cavity, inside I kept saying a silent thought and prayer, but before my hand could feel his breath, a weak voice came to my ears.

"Otis, you're here..... It seems the moon gods have heard my prayers and granted me the ability to see you one more time before I go to the River Styx."

I watched as Conrad suddenly opened his eyes, but because of his severe injuries, his strength was not able to support him to fully open his eyelids, and his voice was almost inaudible as he spoke.

"Conrad, blessed be the moon god, you are alive!"

I said as I tried to pick his body up, an excitement building in my heart.

"You hang in there, I'll take you back to the Blue-moon Pack right away to replace a doctor, you've got to be okay!"

I leaned my palms against his body, but before I could use my strength, Conrad's voice came to my ears again.

"Otis, don't waste any more strength, we're two days away from the wolves here, I won't even last that long."

He paused here, then he moved his eyes as if with difficulty, looking at me as if there was a glow present inside his pupils.

"I should have lost my life a long time ago, it was the power of the wolf pearl and my obsession that kept me going until now, Otis, ...... the wolf pearl is hanging from my chest, you take it back and the Blue-moon Pack is given to you to guard... ..." "No, don't say such stupid things, Blue-moon Pack is the home we are guarding together, I won't let you die!"

His voice stirred frantically inside my head and I quickly lowered my head, licking my tongue over his wounds.

"Otis, it's no use, my insides are almost shattered, even if all my external wounds were healed, I wouldn't survive......."

"No, no, no, no!"

I hissed frantically, licking my lips, but Conrad's cries grew fainter, the light in his eyes was fading, and his breathing became almost imperceptible to me.

The sun was slowly dropping overhead and suddenly the wind around me became stronger, some yellow gravel was blown mid-air and a yellow phantom appeared in the distance that could block the sky.

A sandstorm, damn it, how could a sandstorm appear again at this time of the year? Conrad, in such a state, could not possibly withstand a sandstorm!

My heart felt like it was being squeezed by a hand at this moment, Conrad twisted his eyes and looked behind him at some of the yellow sand that was being blown up, he gave a smile that seemed like a kind of openness in the face of death. "Sandstorm coming soon, Otis ...... live ......"

Suddenly his voice rang out again, his weak voice seemed to be etched into my mind, the words seemed to use up all his strength and then I felt his breathing stop.

"No! Conrad!"

Conrad's figure shattered inside my mind in an instant, his body buried in the sand completely lifeless.
