Chapter 6

Finally, after hearing what she wanted to hear, Adriane’s grip on the wheelchair loosened. Then she smiled shyly to show others that she was delighted but shy.

Albert, who had experienced ups and downs in just a few hours, was finally relieved, “That’s great!”

Not only Albert but the Stewarts were also relieved to hear that.

The guests who came to the ceremony quickly hid the contemptuous look on their faces and congratulated the couple. The fear they had for Jenkins left them with no choice but to be respectful and humble.

Adriane stood beside Arthur’s wheelchair. Subconsciously, she glanced at Arthur. Then, she noticed that his face was even paler than before.

Worried about his health, she whispered to Albert, “Uncle, let’s begin the engagement ceremony.”

Albert felt ashamed that he did not notice his son’s face, which was getting paler, but at the same time, he was happy that Arthur’s fiance was a sweet girl who cared about Arthur.

When Albert wanted to announce that they were continuing the engagement ceremony, Alexander came through the crowd and walked towards them.. He was dressed in a white suit and looked elegant. His gentle and handsome appearance was indeed deceiving.

Last birth, Adriane fell for Alexander’s gentle disguise, but her life ended up miserable. Seeing him sparked her anger. Hatred shot through Adriane, making her want to tear his hypocrite disguise apart and expose his despicable and selfish character to the public.

According to Adriane’s experience from the past life, Alexander had known her for quite some time. But he did not propose to her and kept an ambiguous relationship between them. He even took care of her like a gentleman, luring her into his trap.

They had met each other before the engagement ceremony in her last birth. Although Alexander did not say anything about helping her escape, he had instigated her to do it by saying that she should marry a man she loved rather than compromising her foster family’s arranged marriage.

First, he greeted his grandfather, Albert, and then Arthur, his uncle. Only then did he gaze gently into Adriane’s eyes.

Alexander was Albert’s eldest grandson. He was 26 years old, a year older than Arthur. Since the accident crippled Arthur, Alexander had been active in the business industry, taking over Arthur’s position as the CEO of Jenkins Group. With all the power he had, he began to build up his trust in the

company.

Unfortunately, Arthur had built a deep foundation of trust in Jenkins Group. It would be difficult for Alexander to replace Arthur completely.

In front of all the guests, Alexander did not state his intention bluntly. Instead, he asked Adriane, “Are you sure you want this?”

Adriane looked at Alexander calmly. The memory of her past life flashed in her mind.

Alexander sounded as though he was concerned about her, but such an ambiguous question would make others misunderstand their relationship if Adriane did not answer it smartly.

An ill man who was once a legend in the business industry. The eldest grandson of the breadwinner of the Jenkins family, who had a bright future. And Arthur’s future bride, Adriane. Such a situation could make others fantasize about a dramatic relationship between them.

Alexander was not at the ceremony earlier because he went to take care of Josie. Since he could not ruin the engagement ceremony, he might as well taint Adriane, his uncle’s future bride’s reputation.

Others might think Adriane was trying to flirt with Alexander even when she was engaged to his uncle. It would not only make Arthur the laughingstock of the guests, but it would also embarrass Adriane and make her look like a wh’re.

Unfortunately, Adriane did not plan to waste her time on Alexander at the moment. She had a second chance now and plenty of opportunities to revenge on that scumb“g

The smile on Adriane’s face was so sweet and beautiful that it struck Alexander’s heart like a bow and left him in a daze, but the words that came from those beautiful lips placed him in an awkward situation.

Chapter 6

Adriane asked, “Excuse me, who are you?”

Some of the guests in the hall could not help themselves from laughing, but they quickly restrained it with all due respect to Jenkins. Arthur, who did not like Alexander, was worried that Alexander might bully Adriane. However, something unexpected happened. His fiance, who had been tame as a bunny before this, was now like a kitten with sharp claws, fierce but cute.

Arthur gazed at Adriane meaningfully as he wondered what kind of surprise she would bring into his life.

Alexander’s face turned pale, and his ears turned red in embarrassment. Adriane was pleased to see Alexander feeling humiliated. She continued with a puzzled look on her face, “We have an engagement ceremony to continue and no time to waste. Can you please wait until the end of the ceremony?

She had even asked Alexander to shut up and leave “politely“.

Albert beckoned the bodyguards behind him to take Alexander away before he could even say anything more.

After that, the engagement ceremony, which had been delayed for hours, went on smoothly.

Considering Arthur’s health condition, the flow for the engagement ceremony was kept simple. The couple exchanged engagement rings with the blessings of the elders and the guests, and that was it.

The Jenkins family had prepared the engagement ring. The fiance had to put on the engagement ring for his fiancee first. She squatted down a little and held out her hand with a happy smile on her face.

Arthur held Adriane’s palm in one hand and the ring in the other. Slowly but solemnly, he slipped the ring through her finger.

It was a platinum ring with a large, dazzling diamond on it. Unfortunately, Adriane had no mood to appreciate the engagement ring because she could feel Arthur’s hand trembling slightly.

Worried about Arthur’s health, she quickly took the other ring and put it on Arthur’s finger too. She looked like she was in a hurry, which made the guests misunderstand that she was anxious to marry Arthur. They thought she was that kind of materialistic girl, who wanted to marry a prince.

After the ceremony, she gently let out a breath of relief. When she lifted her head, her eyes met Arthur’s dark eyes.

“Did he just look at me without blinking when I put the ring on his finger?” thought Adriane.

She blushed at the thought of it and looked away nervously.

Arthur placed his hands on his lap. His hand with the ring on it was placed on top of the other. Albert walked towards them and asked Adriane to push Arthur back to his mansion and take a good rest. They need not worry about the guests and the rest of the ceremony.

Happy that they didn’t need to toast the guests, Adriane pushed Arthur’s wheelchair to the entrance.

Outside the hall, there was a very spacious camper van. Adriane knew Arthur was a man of pride. Would it not crush Arthur’s pride if she watched him be carried in and out of the vehicle?

So, Adriane planned to turn around and avoid looking at them. But before she could do so, the back door of the van opened. A muscular bodyguard came out and pushed Arthur in his wheelchair into the van.

Embarrassed by her thoughts, Adriane hesitated for a moment and sat down beside him. She sat as she watched the van going around the manor silently, stopping the most secluded mansion in the manor.

Arthur did not say a word throughout the van ride and even when they were in the mansion. Adriane said nothing about it and followed them. She lifted her gown and stepped on her high–heeled shoes.

Finally, they entered an empty room on the second floor. It was decorated in grey and black, which was simple but at the same time an unfriendly color for a cozy home.

In the middle of the room laid Josie, who was tied up and had a rag in her mouth. Albert had ordered his men to tie her and send her to his son’s mansion. It meant that he gave Arthur full authority to punish the maid.

Josie did not expect that the timid–looking Adriane would complain to Albert and Arthur about what she had done. She whimpered through the rag in the mouth as tears flowed down her cheeks.

She wanted to defend herself, but Arthur did not want to listen to her nonsense. He asked Adriane calmly, “How do you want to punish her?”

It was a prompt question that Adriane did not expect. She had no idea

“Mr. Arthur, what do you think is a better punishment for her?” In the end, she passed the question back to Arthur.

He reached out and rubbed his eyebrows and spoke casually as if they were talking about the weather.

As the thunder rumbled and the rain poured outside the mansion, Arthur beckoned to the bodyguards behind him, “I’ll break her leg. The same side of her leg where she pinched you.”

Josie was first startled, and then she struggled as she whimpered.

Just as Arthur ordered, a bodyguard dressed in black walked towards Josie with a baseball bat in his hand. Then he smashed the baseball bat on Josie’s leg as hard as he could.

Josie let out a shrilling shriek when the bat hit her leg. Adriane shuddered too.

Arthur noticed Adriane’s response and sneered, “Scared so easily?”
