Benson 176
Chapter 176 The Stalemate of the Cold War
Bella’s nose tingled upon hearing Yvonne’s murmurs.
Despite her anger and pain, she couldn’t let go of their many years of affection and still thought of him.
But Benson? He never returned after leaving the hospital.
Instead, it was Jeremy whom Yvonne, in her daze, clung to, not wanting him to
leave.
Though his posture was tiring, he stayed. Yvonne
looked down at the unconscious
with a mix of helplessness and heartache in his eyes,
Despite the soreness in his arm from her grip, he couldn’t bring himself to pull
away.
This gesture made Bella grateful, providing Yvonne with a bit of solace and
warmth.
As night deepened, the dim and warm lights of the emergency room brought a sense of calm to the tense evening.
Bella carefully prepared fever medication and shots for Yvonne.
She frequently wiped the sweat from Yvonne’s forehead, each touch gentle and cautious, afraid of disturbing her rest.
Bella also applied physical cooling measures, her hands moving softly over Yvonne’s forehead as if handling a delicate treasure.
Her eyes were filled with focus and care, missing no detail to ensure Yvonne’s comfort through the tough night.
By dawn, Yvonne’s fever began to subside, giving Bella a sigh of relief.
She gently stroked Yvonne’s hair, her eyes reflecting a sense of comfort. Yvonne’s fever breaking meant her body was starting to recover.
When Yvonne awoke, it was just before dawn.
The sky outside was faintly bright, with morning light seeping through the curtains, adding a touch of warmth to the room.

In her blurred vision, Yvonne saw a figure by the bedside.
The room’s dimness made it hard to see clearly, and she thought it was
Benson.
A complex mix of emotions, both hopeful and uneasy, rose within her.
She softly called out, her voice trembling slightly.
Thinking about the trip to St. George, she felt deceived and unwilling. A hint of pain and disappointment flashed in her eyes as she considered telling him everything.
As her hand released his arm, the man by the ed raised his head and softly asked, “How are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?”
The unfamiliar voice made her pause, then she smiled wryly.
Benson had found the one he had been searching for, so why would he care about her?
Her eyes showed a hint of sadness and resignation before calming down.
“Thank you. I’m sorry to trouble you,” Yvonne said, genuinely grateful and apologetic to Jeremy
Her voice, still hoarse, carried a touch of softness.
“It’s okay, it’s what I should do.” Jeremy replied gently, his tone concerned.
His eyes, though tired, remained warm and kind.
Despite the awkwardness, knowing he had been seen in such a vulnerable state by a partner, Yvonne lowered her head, fiddling with the bed’s edge, her eyes reflecting a hint of embarrassment
Jeremy rubbed his face, listening to her still–raspy voice, then stood to pour her
some water.
He handed her the cup carefully. Yvonne took it, sipping lightly, feeling a cool sensation in her throat.
Bella woke up, rubbing her eyes with a touch of concern in her voice, “Feeling better?”
Yvonne nodded, her throat feeling much better than the previous day.
“Much better, thank you both,” she said with gratitude, her eyes softening.
“Are you hungry? I can get you something to eat, Bella offered, her tone filled
with concern.
“I’ll go,” Jeremy interjected firmly. He stood up, stretching his stiff body, hist
eyes warm.
After bringing breakfast for the two, he bid them farewell.
He had many work obligations and couldn’t stay longer. Before leaving, he looked at Yvonne with a mix of reluctance and concer
“Remember this favor, Yvonne said sincerely, “I’ll repay you soon.”
Jeremy nodded, “Okay,” he said, standing by her bed, smiling down at her.
Sunlight streamed in through the window behind him, casting a warm glow, and there seemed to be something different in the air.
Bella sensed something amiss, feeling a bit worried. Jeremy said, “Yvonne, get better before you leave.”
Yvonne nodded firmly, “I won’t risk my health.”
After Jeremy left, Bella started berating Benson, her tone full of anger and frustration. Her eyes reflected her concern as she looked at Yvonne.
Yvonne didn’t respond, seeing missed calls from Benson on her phone. She didn’t return them. His messages asked how she was, but she didn’t reply.
Her eyes showed coldness and determination as if she had made up her mind.
In the afternoon, Yvonne received a call from her mother–in–law, learning that Benson had returned to Las Vegas.
Her mother–in–law’s warmth and concern on the phone didn’t mention Benson.
Yvonne’s tone was soft and grateful, but her eyes reflected fatigue.
She stayed in St. George for two more days before preparing to return to Las Vegas. She still ignored Benson’s calls and messages, her eyes showing indifference and resolve.
Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, Benson, distracted by Yvonne’s prolonged absence, made the office atmosphere tense.
Employees worked quietly, afraid to speak loudly. George, though not in St.
George, had been investigating Steven’s matter and roughly understood the situation.
He knew it couldn’t be hidden forever.
A crash was inevitable.
George’s eyes showed concern and resignation as he looked at Benson, offering advice carefully, “Maybe you should bring your wife back from St. George.”
Benson, resting his chin on his hand, looked up m his documents, frowning slightly, “Do you think it’s appropriate?” His voice carried doubt and resignation, eyes showing deep conflict.
George understood Benson wanted to resolve Olivia’s matter first.
Mary had called, saying Olivia was taken by Steven, a powerful underworld figure.
If Olivia had freedom, she would definitely have contacted her family.
Now, they needed to resolve this issue. A trace of worry and helplessness flashed in George’s eyes.
After returning, Olivia sent word that she wanted to go back to Hawaii.
However, dealing with Steven wasn’t easy.
Would they really let things remain cold and unresolved between the two of them if Olivia’s issue wasn’t settled?
