Chapter 179 Strategic Adjustments

Yvonne looked up at Benson, a slight smile appearing on her face, though it didn’t reach her eyes. She got into the car.

As soon as the door closed, she felt a familiar warmth. George turned around with a bright smile on his face.

“Hello, ma’am,” George’s voice was full of cheer and warmth, always breaking the silence this way.

“Hello, George,” Yvonne responded with a tire ‘et warm smile.

Benson sat next to her, watching her. Her attitude towards others was

completely different from how she treated him.

She could laugh and chat with George, but couldn’t she smile at him? He had been missing her these days.

His gaze lingered on her face for a moment, feeling a pang of bitterness.

Seeing her with Jeremy, and now chatting happily with George, made him feel very jealous.

Her voice no longer sounded as broken as it did in St. George’s hospital; it had improved a lot.

But it was still a bit hoarse and not fully recovered. He noticed her pale

complexion and couldn’t help but worry.

“You’re still not fully recovered, and you wear so little?”

His voice carried a hint of reproach and concern.

He told George to turn up the heat, a slight annoyance in his gaze.

Yvonne lowered her eyes and didn’t respond.

She didn’t want to argue with him now, but she felt a faint warmth in her heart.

His concern, though clumsy, was genuine.

Outside the window, the scenery quickly retreated, the city’s lights shining brightly in the night, while the atmosphere inside the car was suffocatingly quiet.

George focused on driving, occasionally glancing at them through the rearview

mirror.

He felt a bit tense and awkward but said nothing, silently turning up the heat a

bit more.

Back on Wutong Road, Maria greeted her with a smile, noticing that she looked thinner and feeling quite sorry for her.

“Sir said you were sick. Stay home and rest well. I’ll make you some nutritious

meals.”

Maria’s voice was full of care and affection, like a kind elder.

Yvonne always disliked making things difficult

the servants, “Okay.”

She nodded, a slight smile on her face, though she felt calm inside..

The room was just as usual, with the curtains half drawn, letting in a bit of light.

A vase of fresh lilies on the table filled the air with a faint, comforting scent.

She sat on the soft sofa and made a call to Megan to confirm some work

details.

Her voice sounded a bit tired, but her tone remained firm.

She needed to stay professional and not let personal emotions affect her work.

Benson had just come out of the shower, wearing a loose robe, with water droplets trickling down his forehead, making him look particularly attractive.

His gaze fell on Yvonne, filled with a hint of curiosity and unease.

He walked over to her, his voice gentle and concerned, “Are you still taking your medicine? I’ll get you some water.”

Yvonne hung up the phone and stood by the window, looking at Benson.

His robe hung loosely on him, with water droplets trickling down his forehead, reminding her of how he looked in the old house.

Back then, he also looked tired and helpless.

She even missed those days when he was cold to her.

Maybe, not being loved was better. Better than being unloved and deceived.

Her heart ached with a dull pain, her gaze filled with sadness.

She thought she would forget, but the events in St. George were still vivid in her memory.

Thinking back, her heart ached.

She exhaled, refusing to let herself dwell on it.

She answered him, “No need. Between us, there’s no need for this. I should have made it clear that day. I came back with you because I promised.”

Benson’s face turned gloomy, his jaw tightened, his eyes filled with anger and confusion.

“Do you have to describe our relationship like

?”

His voice carried a hint of helplessness and anger, as if trying to explain something.

Yvonne really didn’t want to say much more.

She looked at him, her eyes cold and distant.

She no longer expected anything, just wanted to maintain her dignity.

Benson was truly contradictory at times. He treated her this way, valuing her body more than his love for her.

Yet, if she said it out loud, he would be unhappy. She really didn’t care how he thought or felt.

After she showered and came out, Benson was already asleep.

He was facing away from her. Yvonne lifted the blanket and got in, also turning her back to him.

Sharing the same bed, but sleeping back–to–back, the air was filled with silence

and distance.

“Yvonne, do we count as sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams?” Benson’s voice broke the silence, tired and helpless.

“No, because we never had love!” Yvonne’s voice was cold, like a sharp sword

cutting through the night.

The next morning, sunlight filtered through the thin curtains, casting a warm glow in Yvonne’s room.

Golden light danced on the floor, adding warmth and vitality to the quiet morning.

Yvonne rubbed her sleepy oyen and slowly set up, ready to face a new day,

Just as she picked up her phone, she received a call from Paul. His voice on the other end sounded urgent, waiting for her response.

“Yvonne, finally found you. There are some matters that need your attention.

Paul’s voice carried a hint of anxiety and helplessness, waiting for her guidance.

Yvonne had been busy with various tasks lately and hadn’t had time to handle the work at the industrial park.

Paul had reported to her several times, but she was always too preoccupied with other matters.

She felt a twinge of guilt, but work always made it difficult for her to replace time.

“The figures this year are not as good as the same period last year. I’ve compared the data, and it’s indeed different.”

Paul’s voice carried a hint of anxiety and helplessness, waiting for her guidance.

Yvonne frowned, thinking for a moment before answering, “Differences are normal. This year’s market conditions are bad. Using the same methods won’t make a difference. Last year, I made some changes.

Her voice was firm and calm, as if she had already seen through the market changes.

She knew this year’s market conditions were indeed poor, with various factors leading to a drop in sales.

She needed to replace new ways to address it.

Standing by the window, looking at the scenery outside, her mind was filled with thoughts.

The distant city appeared particularly tranquil in the morning light, contrasting sharply with her inner turmoil.

Her gaze gradually became determined. She knew she had to face these.

problems and replace solutions.

At Caesar, she had mentioned these ideas to Paul but hadn’t explored them in depth.

“If that order is lost, then so be it.”
