Chapter 180 A Poor Plan

When Benson came downstairs, he saw Maria following behind Yvonne, carrying a wobbly bowl.

Maria looked anxious, constantly urging Yvonne as if she were racing against.

time.

Yvonne, however, was busy on the phone, ignoring Maria’s urgings.

Her voice rose and fell, seemingly disc ing something important with the person on the other end of the line.

“Sir, this is the medicine for Mrs. Taylor. Her throat isn’t well, and she’s been sick for quite a while…”

Maria, spotting Benson, looked at him like he was her savior and quickly

handed him the bowl.

Her eyes were filled with hope and anxiety, hoping Benson could persuade

Yvonne to drink the medicine.

Benson frowned at the greenish substance, filled with doubt.

He sniffed it, and the pungent odor made him wrinkle his nose in disgust.

“What’s this smell?” he asked, his voice tinged with distaste.

Maria quickly explained, “Sir, it’s very effective, just a bit bitter.”

Her tone was sincere and hopeful, wishing Benson would believe her.

Benson sniffed the medicine again, frowning, “This smell is really odd.

Despite his doubts, he went to the kitchen to confirm the ingredients and effects of the medicine.

Upon returning, he took the bowl from Maria and approached Yvonne, who was still on the phone.

Yvonne hadn’t finished her call; her expression was serious and focused, not noticing Benson’s approach.

Benson stood in front of her, speaking softly, “Drink this.”

His tone carried a mix of command and concern, with a hint of expectation in

his eyes.

Yvonne glanced at him, said nothing, and took the bowl, downing it in one go.

However, as soon as she was about to swallow, the indescribable bitterness spread in her mouth, making her want to spit it out.

Just as she was about to gag, a hand covered her mouth, forcing her to swallow the medicine.

She glared at Benson, her usually gentle eyes flashing with anger and helplessness.

Yet, her helpless look made her seem somewhat endearing, like a small bird caught in a storm, aggrieved but not losing its natural grace.

This lifted Benson’s spirits, a slight smile curling at his lips.

His hand left her lips, but before she could speak, he deftly placed a piece of candy in her mouth.

“This way, it won’t be so bitter,” Benson teased, yet his voice was full of

affection.

Yvonne, feeling a mix of helplessness and annoyance, could only hold the candy in her mouth, suppressing the bitter taste from the medicine.

She continued discussing work matters with Paul.

Her voice, affected by the medicine, was a bit deeper but still carried her usual calmness and professionalism.

Every word was clear and powerful, reflecting her dedication and passion for her work.

Maria, seeing the two of them getting along so well, smiled contentedly.

Wiping a teacup, she softly said, “Sir, after the New Year, you’ll be another year older. You should think about having a child with Mrs. Taylor.”

Maria’s gentle tone and hopeful gaze seemed to be planning happiness for them.

Benson felt a tightness in his chest at her words, recalling their time in St.

George.

After returning from St. George, he knew things had become difficult.

Especially for Yvonne, who wouldn’t want to go down the path of having children anymore.

He vividly remembered her lying in the hospital bed, the array of medicine bottles especially striking.

One of them was emergency contraception. That scene brought a pang of sorrow to his heart.

He had gone to St. George not just to verify Maria’s words but also with hopes of having a child.

But now, all his hopes seemed cruelly dashed.

That day, when she was sick and in pain at the hospital, he realized she had completely lost trust and reliance on him.

Yvonne hung up the phone, the bitterness still lingering in her mouth.

Benson watched her with concern, gently holding her hand, waiting for her to eat breakfast.

Maria brought in breakfast, with a table full of rich and delicate dishes, fresh fruits, hot bread, and fragrant coffee, full of the warmth and happiness of home. However, Yvonne looked pale and had no appetite for the tempting breakfast in front of her.

For Benson, this was both a happy scene and a painful reminder.

and trust to overcome this hurdle He knew they needed more understanding and trust to overcome this hurdle together.

“Tonight, we’re going back to the old house,” Benson said, his tone firm and unyielding.

She responded with a simple “Hmm,” her expression indifferent. She knew this was Benson’s arrangement and didn’t object.

“But I have an engagement tonight,” she added calmly, with a hint of distance

in her tone.

“Is it with Jeremy again?” Benson asked, his tone turning colder, a hint of displeasure in his eyes.

“Yes,” Yvonne admitted openly.

Smiling, she added, “But don’t worry, I won’t do what you did.”

Her smile carried a hint of sarcasm, seemingly mocking his infidelity.

Maria, busy with her tasks, suddenly sensed a shift in the atmosphere.

Weren’t they just sweet and now they’re suddenly at odds?

“I have no romantic feelings for her,” Benson said quietly, his tone filled with helplessness and explanation.

“She wanted to leave, and after helping her, we’re even. Yvonne, I know I

haven’t treated you well. Sometimes, I act crazy. Could you give me some time?

His voice was pleading and hopeful, seeking her understanding and forgiveness.

He wanted to be good to her, to learn to like and love her.

But when he truly tried, he found it wasn’t easy.

Yvonne didn’t respond. Her eyes were cold and distant.

There were too many issues between them, and trust was gone: She didn’t want to trust him again.

He had deceived her, and she chose to retaliate in her own way.

At some point, she was no longer the Yvonne who swallowed her grievances and continued to like him with a smile.

She began using him. Helping Olivia marked the end of their marriage for her. Yvonne knew that someday he would discover the truth and be furious.

But she didn’t care anymore. During this time, love was no longer something to talk about.

She just had to get through it.

Benson kept waiting for Yvonne’s response, but she didn’t answer or even look up.
