Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) -
Chapter 71
Chapter 71
However, after waiting for a long time, no one turned up.
For a moment, everyone could not help but whisper to each other, “What do you think Ms. Grey is upto? Do you think they have decided to give up on the bidding?”
“I don’t think so. I heard that the Johnson Corporation is
determined to get this project. Moreover, Ms. Grey is personally in charge of this project.”
“It’s almost impossible for a woman to compete with men in the business world. I think Ms. Grey mightbe too frightened to come!”
“No matter what, she’s handpicked by Old Mr. Johnson to be his successor. Even if she doesn’t doanything, the Johnson family’s assets are enough to last her for a long time. These people’s words areso meaningless!” A light voice said sarcastically.
Landon raised his hand and adjusted his glasses. He glanced at the empty seat that was reserved forthe Johnson Corporation. Then he threw a glance at David who was sitting beside him. “Actually Iplanned to see how beautiful this Ms. Grey is but it seems my hopes are dashed.”
“David, have you ever seen Ms. Grey while you are in Seaxas these few days?” Jimmy turned his headand looked at David.
David answered expressionlessly, “Yes.”
Upon hearing his answer, Jimmy immediately perked up. “How does she look like?”
Landon was more observant than Jimmy. He looked at David’s calm expression. Landon’s eyesdarkened, and the corners of his mouth curled into an intriguing smile. “Do you have other plans foryour marriage engagement with the Johnson family?”
The main reason why David appeared in Seaxas this time was to cancel the marriage engagement.
However, when Landon saw David’s indifferent expression, it was obvious that David had other plans inmind.
Although Landon did not know what made David change his mind, he was certain that David would noteasily ask to cancel the
engagement.
Jimmy stared at David intently. Seeing that David did not reply, he could not help but click his tongueand praise, “As expected, the man is unable to resist a beauty!”
As the three of them were talking, the auction on the stage had already begun.
“The land in South Valley covers a total of 176 thousand square feet. The starting price is 16 milliondollars.”
“18 million dollars!”
“24 million dollars!”
“40 million dollars!”
The urban renewal of the old district in South Valley was a lucrative project. Everyone at the auctionwould not let go of the chance to get the project.
As the bidding continued, there was an undercurrent in the air, and a faint smell of gunpowder filled theair.
“100 million dollars!” A gentle voice suddenly sounded.
Everyone followed the direction of the voice and looked over. When they saw David, they could nothelp but be curious. They did not know which company could afford such a large sum of money.
David bid 100 million dollars at once, and that would make some people give up on bidding for theproject.
Just as the organizer was about to ask again and close the bidding, Rachel glanced at Linda.
“200 million dollars.” Linda raised the sign in her hand.
Rachel’s slender fingers supported her forehead as she looked at
the few people sitting in the lower left corner. Her lips curled into a faint smile.
Louis who was sitting in the third row, could not help but turn to look at the back row after hearing theshocking price.
The light in the back row was dim, and the woman’s face was hidden in the darkness. Only the outlineof her exquisite face could be vaguely seen.
Who was this woman?
The organizer was curious but he quickly calmed himself down. Then he cleared his throat and said,“200 million dollars. Is there anything higher than this?”
Before he could finish speaking, a gentle voice came from his left again. “240 million dollars.”
Linda looked at Rachel. After receiving a response, she said unhurriedly, “300 million dollars.”
Jimmy became very interested. He craned his neck to look at the last row. “Looks like the Johnsonfamily’s position as the richest family in Seaxas is going to change!”
Landon could not help but look at the side where Rachel was sitting. “I’m really curious about who hasthe guts to compete with David”
