Betrayed by My Pack – Wolfless Hybrids Escape -
Chapter 99 –
Alexei's
POV
We came over the wall less than ten minutes ago. I have to say that Tatiana was an excellent tracker. We all knew it would be almost impossible for us to replace two vampires in a sixty-acre pack, but she managed to do it. I knew she was correct about where she led us because this home was brand new. It was all alone in a far corner of the pack like he was trying to hide them away from prying eyes. I am sure he would tell the patrols to leave them alone. Paxton was willing to endanger his whole pack to get Cara, but I wouldn't let him take my mate. Tatiana was willing to stay behind with us, just in case. But I knew that Dmitry would be worried about her until he could see for himself that she was OK. Polina told me she would take Tatiana back over the wall and then return. She knows the main reason I chose her to come with us. I am making very sure that Jana and Anika never returned. She will provide the last step needed to accomplish this.
We didn't wait for Polina to return. We already knew this would be a fight before we came here. They would not win but still try to fight for their lives. Even the undead didn't want to stop existing, but we were taking the choice away from them. As far as I was concerned, they got over three years of bonus life that they never deserved to receive. Next time, I will have Adrik or Anton interview them to determine if the people we are questioning are lying, or not. I won't allow this to ever happen again.
It was a little after eight am, and we noticed they had built them a home but put windows on it. I smirked as that told me that this was just a temporary deal as far as Paxton was concerned. When he had it built, he didn't anticipate that Jana and Anika would be long-term guests in his pack. Their not being able to stand the sunlight would have been something that they had to have told him. So either he didn't care what they said or just went along to get what he wanted. I am pretty sure it is the latter. He had them kill Lena, so he is already getting used to siccing them on people.
I spoke through the mouthpiece of my headset. Jaxon had several of these in the ammo storage. Throwbacks of a time when several packs were involved in the war, and trying to communicate with all of them came back to me. The message would go out, and the point person for the pack, or coven, would then mindlink the message out to their people. We all knew to stay off unless we had something important to relay. We would do a two-pronged assault: Anton and I with the vampires and Jaxon, Kevin, and Trevor at the gate. Now that I told him we were in place, they would pull up to the gate. It would look like only a few were there when, in fact, we were already in place. Nadia was in the front of the pack at the corner to Jaxon's right. It gave her the best vantage point of about thirty percent of the pack. Their woods were at the back of the pack. Nadia will stop anyone from attacking them while we are at the gate. Irina and Kira stayed inside the SUV until Jaxton and his men reached the gate. Dmitry is with them, but I know he will wait for his mate to return and then move into place. I had thought this whole plan out while I was supposed to be resting. I wasn't going to knock and alert them. No one in the coven locks their doors. We are a relatively safe species in that people didn't look for us to cause trouble with. People usually avoided us and didn't fight back. That was the exact reason that we got called in to help. Our job was determining who was a safe vampire to allow into the coven and who needed to be dealt with. I messed up with Anika and Jana. I didn't have Anton or Adrik to help me with the interviews. I was the one who had messed up, and I was going to rectify it today.
We don't need a lot of sleep as a vampire, as we don't need to rest. Our hearts don't pump blood to where it needs to go. That is why we have to get blood inside us in other ways. Our organs will shut down if they don't get blood production. I was born into a royal vampire line. I don't know how it works. It just does. We ingest blood that we pay humans to donate or take from animals we hunt for food. It keeps us from wanting to feed from humans or other species. I do know that drinking from your lover gives you a harder and longer orgasm. One day I will ask Cara if she will let me do it, as it will give both of us benefits for doing so.
We were quiet as we entered their home. They did an excellent job with the shutters on the windows, and no light was let into the house. There is a set on the inside of the windows, as well as on the outside of the window. There were two LED lights, one on either side of the room. They gave out a little light as we each approached a bedroom. We could tell they were inside their rooms. Even as silent as we were, they knew we were there too. They will have already signaled to each other that someone was inside their home with each other. They will immediately come out attacking as soon as the doors to their rooms are opened.
We have a surprise on our side, though, as they expect some pack warriors to be the ones who are trespassing. They are not expecting us. We didn't speak; we could communicate telepathically, but we had already discussed what we were going to do. Anton was just as mad as I was that they had hurt his mate. There was no one I trusted more to have my back than my brother Anton. I nodded to him, and we said nothing as we threw the bedroom doors open to their rooms.
Blurrs of movement flew out of the rooms, and they stopped in the living room to look at us. To say that they were surprised to see that it was us standing there was a huge understatement. They immediately calmed down, and I knew they were going to try to lie their way out of it this time, too.
"I am so glad you are here. Paxton abducted us; he has been holding us here against our will. Are you here to take us home?" Jana asked with a convincing tear falling from her eye. She knew that if Paxton wasn't dead now, he was about to be very soon. With Anton and I in her home, she immediately changed sides. She did what she needed to do to live out her life as an opportunist to the bitter end.
"Kind of. I am just wondering when you are going to ask how Ivan is doing," I told her. I watched as their smiles froze and then disappeared. They knew that I would not allow them to return to the pack.
"Lena forced me to do that, Alexei. She couldn't allow anyone to mess her plan up. I deliberately missed; I couldn't bear to lose a friend and fellow coven member, so he should be fine," Jana told me with tears pouring down her face.
"He saved himself by leaping away from you. You would have finished him off, except for you knew that Dmitry was coming your way. You don't need to lie anymore, Jana. We know that you and Anika should have died with the rest of your group. We are here to deliver the long overdue death sentence," I told her.
"You hurt my mate; it will be my pleasure to kill you, Anika," Anton added.
Their fear filled the room. You could tell they honestly thought that now that they were here, they wouldn't have to worry about consequences from their old lives reappearing. "You can't do that. Alpha Paxton is protecting us. You will start a war," Jana finally stated with false confidence.
"Paxton is headed to the gate now, but nothing is going to save him. He took two Luna's, and my mate, and you helped him do it. Even if you two managed to get past us, you won't be getting past them. I am sure they will have a bone to pick with you two. But instead of forcing our mates to have to see you again. We decided that Anton and I should come to end your pathetic lives ourselves. Jaxon and Kevin will be dealing with Paxton and his friends very soon. But they won't be able to protect you from us. Better yet, they won't protect you as they have their own problems to deal with now and can't help you.
"We are members of your coven. You have sworn to protect us. You cannot do this to us," Jana cried out as she knelt to beg us.
"That won't work, Jana, especially not after everything you have done. I wouldn't forgive you for what you did to Ivan, let alone what you did to my mate. Stand up and stop stalling. We are going to end this now, Jana," I told her as I motioned for her to stand.
"What if I swear you will never see us again, Alexei? Can't you allow us to leave? We will never come back to California again. We will go across the country. Don't we deserve some goodwill after the dedication we have given you over the last three years?" Jana begged.
"It is not going to happen, Jana. You tried to kill my mate. When that didn't work, you helped to abduct her. I gave you protection and everything you needed while you lived in my coven for over three years. I will not be emotionally blackmailed by a woman who has done nothing but try to seduce me since you arrived. I fell for the lies you and Anika told me. You played me that night, but I won't be falling for it ever again," I told her.
Jana reached behind her back, and I remembered a moment too late that she had shot Ivan. We never retrieved the gun, and by the time I realized what she was going to do, her gun was already aimed at me.
