Bound by the CEO’s Baby By Sun Scar Chapter 99
“It’s your assistant,” Ana muttered.
Chapter 99
“It’s your phone,” Damien replied, smirking. For a moment. Ana thought about ignoring the phone call and jumping on him. He had been staring at her for the last hour, watching every move she made as she sat down to read. She knew he was thinking about it. Especially after the night before. But as another ring echoed through the room, they decided they should
answer it.
She made a face at him before answering.
“Hello, Wynne, what are you doing this fine day?” she asked sweetly.
“Thank god, Ana. I was worried you wouldn’t answer. You will never believe what is happening.” She didn’t wait for Ana to ask any questions. Her voice was high and completely terrified. “Edward’s lawyer has been trying to reach him but couldn’t. So, he called me instead to inform you.”
Ana tried to figure out when he would have called. This was the first time their cell phone had rung all night.
“Apparently, the private investigator he hired saw a huge fire while investigating. The cops were called and a whole apartment building was completely lit up.”
“Oh my god, really?”
“Yeah. He said that it was horrible. Apparently, most people were just standing in the street in their bare feet watching their homes go up in flames.”
“That’s awful!”
“What?” Damien asked silently.
Anastasia held up a finger, asking him to wait for a second.
“And guess who lives in that building?” Again, Wynne didn’t wait for Ana to answer. “Carmen. Isn’t that the woman who works with you? The one you think broke into your house? The one Damien-
She didn’t finish the sentence. Ana had confided in Wynne about everything she thought Carmen was doing. This, of course, was after Damien gave her permission. As she packed for her trip, she explained her suspicions: that Carmen had been the one to tear up their house. Why? She had no clue.
Ana felt her heart skip a beat. What did this situation mean? Was it all a coincidence? What happened that the lawyer found it necessary to get ahold of Damien? Of course, she didn’t voice any of that out loud.
“How did it happen?”
“I can’t tell you that. I don’t know.”
“Then what can you tell me?”
“Hey, don’t snap at me!” Wynne protested. “I am telling you everything I can. All I know is what the lawyer told me in the few minutes he had me on the phone. The police are going over a checklist of the occupants. He said Carmen is the only occupant unaccounted for and there is at least one body recovered. He asked me to call Damien and you immediately.”
“I’m sorry, Wynne. I am just freaking out right now.”
Wynne sighed. “I know you are. I am sorry, too. I know you guys are trying to get away from this mess, but the lawyer and Damien’s dad want you to come home immediately.”
“Okay… we are coming home tomorrow. Tell Damien’s lawyer to call us if he replaces out anything else. Give the lawyer my number, too.”
She hung up the phone but couldn’t wrap her mind around what she had just heard.
“What the hell happened?” Damien demanded.
Ana felt sick and yet at the same time, a strange sense of relief rolled over her. “There was…. there was a fire.”
“What? At the house? At your house?”
“No,” she whimpered.
“Ana?” he called louder, trying to get an answer out of her..
Finally, she got her thoughts together. “Carmen.”
“What did she do?” he pressed.
“No… There was a fire at her apartment building. They found a body,” she whispered.
“Hers?” he asked, suddenly his voice lower than before.

Ana shrugged. “I don’t know. She is the only resident they couldn’t locate.” She relayed what Wynne had told her, but it didn’t make any more sense the second time around.
Damien cursed under his breath and rubbed his eyes. He pinched his nose as Ana looked over at him.
“Are we packed for tomorrow?”
“There are a few things here and there, but it shouldn’t be a problem.” Damien tugged at her arm and she scooted closer to him and lay down. His arms were instantly around her, providing her the safe haven she desperately needed.
“Your dad wants us to come home.”
“We will be on the morning flight. That is the best I can do right now. The airports will close shortly.”
Ana nodded slightly and closed her eyes. They felt so heavy that she didn’t bother to open them again. Instead, she allowed the feeling of Damien’s chest rising and falling against her back to lull her to sleep.
Anastasia had to admit that the flight back was much easier. Damien helped her keep Alan occupied. His seat in first class was left unoccupied and he nestled between his parents. Ana watched as Damien taught his son how to play silly games. The thumb wars got extremely intense, too.
“Who taught you how to teach?” Damien chuckled, ruffling Alan’s hair. Alan grinned proudly
“Grandpa did.”
When he started showing signs of being tired, they settled him into his window seat, wrapped him in blankets, and leaned his chair down. With their son snoring slightly, right in their line of sight, Ana leaned into Damien. He put his arm around her shoulders and pressed his lips against Ana’s head.
“It’s going to be fine, baby,” he murmured gently, rubbing his hand up and down her arm.
“How do you know?”
“If she is gone, then at least she can’t hurt us anymore.”
“I really want her to be gone,” Ana whispered so quietly that she was sure Damien hadn’t heard her. He didn’t say anything for a few minutes, he just held her tighter. “I know I am an awful person, but she is… she is so crazy. I don’t doubt that she was the one who deleted the data files on Liam’s server. And your car and the house. I just—”
“I understand that. I do, too,” Damien soothed. “I don’t think for a minute that it makes us bad people. We’re human. You’re human… you’re allowed to be relieved.”
