He already knew the name of the she-wolf. Odd, strange, uncommon, but with strength, worthy of the position she had been in. Nebraska, a name given to those who would not bend.

He could feel her body tremble beneath his fingers, though her countenance did not change. His expression serious, with those beautiful violet eyes completely neutral.

He had learned well. A pack leader could never show their emotions even if they were destroying themselves inside. They were the support of the pack, if they fell apart, they were all doomed.

-Rudoc made a good choice in marrying you, too bad he didn’t know how to take advantage of you,” Nebraska swallowed dryly at her husband’s name, “Don’t worry about him. We have him confined to one of our cells until the Council decides his future.

-And … and the herd,” she said haltingly. Once she knew her children were safe, her second priority came. His other family.

Hades frowned, remembering the state of the wolves.

-I’ll tell you the details later, you’re in no position to know,” he said.

She squirmed uncomfortably, letting out a low growl.

-They are my pack,” she blurted out word after word with effort, “I want to know…what’s going on with…” a coughing fit came on. I want to know what’s going on with… them,” a coughing fit came on and Nebraska put her hand to her chest in an attempt to relieve it. His lungs felt tight and his throat felt like the desert itself.

Hades sighed, picking up the glass of water that had been forgotten on the bedside table. He took a large sip and held it without swallowing. He held the she-wolf’s head and pulled her to him, pressing their lips together as he let the lukewarm liquid pass from his mouth to hers.

He could feel her nails digging into his forearms and hear the sound of her swallowing. He opened his eyes to replace hers so clear that he debated with himself. It seemed incredible to him that she didn’t fight him, that she didn’t form a bitch because he was touching her so intimately, even though his action had no s****l connotation. He was just going with the flow, knowing and analysing the situation and who was stronger. He released her letting the smaller body finish its spasms as she looked at him out of the corner of her eye.

The contact had been strange. Her lips were not even ridiculously close to the soft and delicate ones he was used to and the impression that she could break his simple, somewhat skeletal body slowly awakened the wild part inside him.

He stood looking down at her from above, grabbing her chin again as a thin liquid line still remained on the side of her chin. He wiped it off with his thumb out of pure instinct. An inward throb shuddered through him. He should not risk doing anything like that again, his heat was bordering and his animal mind was too strong to remain sane at this time. The consequences would be devastating and unprofitable.

He admired her face for a few seconds even though her appearance was not the most desirable. His dark hair was all tangled at waist length, perhaps longer. His face had gained a few pounds, but the cheekbones were still very pronounced, he was sure they would disappear as soon as he started eating food. But what struck him most was the intensity with which she looked at him, the response to his person. He might be afraid of it, but he stood his ground. He was not challenged, but commanded respect. And yet she was only an omega. Years in power and in the cell had forged that unwavering character in the face of any wolf. She was definitely the right one.

-Your pack are fine. I placed them in some of the houses my people didn’t use and some of the males we have locked up,” she paused, studying his worried expression.

Nebraska frowned with a grimace that hurt even her.

-You’re not beautiful,” he told her with an emphatic calmness.

That was something Nebraska knew. She-wolves, for the most part, had the attributes of beauty necessary to captivate her long-time mate. She, on the other hand, was petite, and while her curves weren’t stunning, they were well placed, though at this point she could use a few extra pounds. As for her face, she might not be the diva of the pack, but she wasn’t the ugliest either. She was just normal. Wolf’s problem if she wasn’t happy with what was in front of her. She was tired and overwhelmed with so much bossy testosterone around her.

She shook her face trying to break free from Hades’ grip, but he, he didn’t let go of her chin. He only smiled slightly.

-You’re not weak either,” his voice deepened, “for an omega.

Her skin prickled and she swallowed loudly. The atmosphere in the room grew heavy.

-I wonder what I’m going to do with you.

He released her and sat on the edge of the bed. Nebraska cautiously backed up until she hit the back of the bed.

The man was big. She couldn’t define him in detail, but his fuzzy silhouette obscured everything behind him.

She had only seen him once and she was practically a child, but it was impossible to forget him. Tall, strong, muscular, elegant, refined, and the list could go on.

His long dark hair looked delicious to the touch and those eyes. Like molten silver. Serious, glittering and captivating. At that moment she had admired him for the few seconds she had seen him and from there he had vanished from her thoughts. At that age she barely knew the G of the word gustar or the C of commitment.

How blessed fate could be to bring them together years later. How cursed it could be.
