-Your children made a deal with me,” that caught her attention, she was good at knowing when something bad was on the way, “It’s amazing what desperation can do.

The omega breathed heavily.

-The release of you and your pack, in exchange for you,” she said.

Nebraska shook her head. She couldn’t believe what had just happened. Hades was trying to be tactful, something that didn’t sit well with him, saying things up front was easier for him.

-In short. You’re mine now.

Nebraska didn’t move a muscle. She knew it couldn’t be that easy. Her pack free, her children safe, with nothing in return? She was young, but not deluded enough to know that everything had to be paid for.

-What do you want from me? Fighting him was not an option when her children were only a few doors away under the wolf’s tutelage. Besides, she knew how strong and imposing he could be. She had vague memories of when he let his wild side fly. The powerful weight on her back still stung.

-At first I was fascinated by the idea of you carrying my offspring,” she said. I knew she’d say that, omegas were few and far between and so highly prized it was sickening how revered they were in that regard- Though now I don’t know. Caesar told me that the chance of you becoming sterile was over 80%, so right now it’s unclear what to do with you.

He saw the she-wolf put her hand to her belly and her eyes turn red without a tear as she pursed her lips.

Nebraska felt a bucket of cold water fall on her. Her womb, which had carried nearly six puppies counting the deceased, would no longer be able to bring any more into the world. Not that she wanted more children, but being an omega and barren meant only one thing.

Hades saw the panic forming in her eyes and he moved towards her, grabbing the back of her neck and pulling her closer to him. Their faces faced each other. He felt her tense under his touch because of what had happened a few minutes ago and he kneaded the tip of her spine to reassure her. He wouldn’t risk her losing control again.

-I am not like your husband,” he said softly, but she could still hear him in the distance, “I do not abandon anyone to their fate. I do not kill for no apparent reason and even if you are no longer useful,” he brought his lips close to her ear, “You are part of my pack now.

The door closed as Hades decided to leave her alone and Nebraska thought she was breathing again. A few sneaky tears began to roll down her cheeks. She caught one between her thumbs and unraveled it between her fingers wondering if she would ever have the chance to be happy.

She took a deep breath and took control of herself, this was yet another test that life had thrown at her. She only had to think about the future of her children and the good of the pack, as long as she had that it didn’t matter how much she had to endure.

He stroked the old bite mark on his hand and it burned with the memory of deeds he would like to hide deep inside him, better there without effect, than on the back of his neck condemning it. She did not wish her past on Rudoc himself. If only he had never appeared in her life, everything would be different.

And now there was this alpha, of whom she didn’t know what to think. His words could be daggers that dug into his being, frightening and intimidating in their appearance, but his actions did not match his deeds. She said no, but in the end fate always proved that everyone was behind her fertile womb, maybe not so much now.

Against the will of her whole body she moved in an attempt to get up and walk. When was the last time she had had that freedom? She could no longer remember. The chains around her neck were so heavy and short that she succumbed to the pain.

She put one foot on the floor, then the other, and scrambled to the edge of the bed, not before noticing the bandages on her ankles and the faint scars that had yet to fade.

He tensed his muscles as much as he could and propelled himself forward only to fall to his knees with a g***n of pain. His legs were barely able to support his weight. He pounded the floor with his fist. She hated herself for letting herself get into this state, but surely, she would come out of it, graceful and with all her pride, because, even if she was an omega, she was a she-wolf.

-What are you doing?

Nebraska’s body froze at the sound of that voice. She couldn’t see him, especially not from her position, but she could recognise him anywhere. That was the wolf that had attacked her a few days ago, her memories were fuzzy and she couldn’t remember the reason, but his scent made the place where the bite had been itch.

That man was the beta of that pack.
