To say she was worn out was an understatement. Nebraska felt like her body was more this way than that. It wasn’t that she was in pain. Every muscle in her body was so numb that the pain was barely perceptible. Still there was a throbbing discomfort in the back of her neck that wouldn’t let her rest easy.

But annoying was perhaps not the right word. The sensation was… different. Besides the warmth that caressed her skin was totally relaxing helped by the massages to each of her limbs.

She opened her eyes slowly but with difficulty. Her surroundings were not dark. The candlelight gave life to her surroundings and although it was daytime, the thick dark curtains did not let the brightness of the outside in through the small windows of the bathroom.

She was not surprised to replace herself in a bathtub with steaming water. Her husband’s large hands roamed her jelly body, waking her nerves as he held her against his chest. Feeling his breath against her ear felt pleasant. She couldn’t lie. Not much had changed between them other than their union and wedding consummation, but everything felt different.

Maybe it was because of their liaison, but her body was clamouring harder to be at her husband’s side. Touching him, kissing him, devouring him, it was something she had only faintly imagined before getting used to the idea of the future, but now that those feelings were materializing with such intensity instead of feeling uncomfortable, it seemed more right.

-You woke up beautiful,” Hades realised as soon as she opened her eyes due to the bond.

He was much older so everything was more intense for him. Knowing when she opened her eyes, sensing her emotions for the most part was second nature to him. She would have to grow at least 100 years older to know what he was thinking. For the time being she would have to continue to read him with her sense of smell as she did so far.

Nebraska after hearing the question just nodded her head and a sound from her throat. She was too tired to speak. She ducked her head to the side as soon as Hades lowered his to leave a k**s on her neck, close to the bite, as if they were in sync.

-I’m glad,” he smiled against her skin, “You’ve been sleeping for two days. You had me worried, I thought I’d been too rough.

The omega frowned slightly. Two days he had been sleeping and he was still like that. She turned her head slightly and spoke with effort, raising her hand to his cheek.

-You weren’t rough,” her voice came out husky and pasty, “You don’t have to worry, you were very good and you took care of me at all times. This is something I have to go through.

He took her hand and kissed the palm.

-Still, I wish you’d been more comfortable. I promise to make it up to you.

Nebraska smiled slightly and settled further into his chest, she knew what he meant. She might have fallen asleep again but for the fact that he pulled her out of the tub, toweled her dry, and put her in a large, comfortable nightgown. At all times she let him do what he wanted with her.

She had neither the strength nor the desire to argue, and she would not deny that she liked to be pampered so thoroughly. Perhaps she could take advantage of that and make a habit of it. He was sure neither of them would mind.

Hades laid her back down on the bed where the sheets had been changed for thick, dark fur bedspreads. From the barely open windows of his new room he noticed that in the days he had been sleeping the weather had changed and it was beginning to snow outside. Now she understood the room’s décor.

Nebraska rolled in the soft fur and wrapped herself in it, sighing with contentment. Her husband didn’t go to bed, instead he dressed and left a k**s on her forehead.

-I’m going out to the study. I have some business to attend to and now that you’re well I must catch up on all the things I’ve put aside.

She nodded. As a former queen she knew all the responsibilities that came with the place and all those matters that often could not be ignored.

-My mother will be here in a few moments, I’ll tell her to bring you some food. You’ve just been through an intense time and you need to feed yourself,” Hades said as he walked towards the door and before leaving, he smiled at her.

His gaze reflected his displeasure at having to leave and she didn’t blame him. Her insides also tightened as she watched him leave and the feeling was totally new to her.

Fifteen minutes later the door opened and Celesia appeared with a tray in one hand. No matter the time, time or place, Nebraska felt that this woman had the bearing of a queen. The she-wolf approached her and gave her a stern look, then sat down next to her and brushed her hair out of her face.

-It is good to see you awake so soon. My son nearly collapsed from nerves,” she began to arrange the items on the tray to offer them to the omega who sat up with difficulty on the bed and took them hesitantly from the plate.

The she-wolf was beautiful and all, but she was even more intimidating than her husband. His face was even less expressive than hers and his eyes seemed to search her soul.

-Are you uncomfortable with my presence?

Nebraska hastened to deny.

Celesia raised an eyebrow.

-I was Commander of the Pack Guard before I was queen, and I was bred for that position from almost days old, so I can be a little rough around the edges when it comes to interaction,” she blurted out first.

Nebraska denied again, but this time she set the plate of food aside after eating a few small pieces of meat.

-I’ve already spoken to my new grandchildren and I have to say I’m pleased that my puppy has found someone like you, that is if we take out the part about your former husband,” she was blunt and tactless with what she said, “Although I think the two younger males could use a little more discipline.

-Nebraska became deadly serious and narrowed her eyes.

Celesia looked at her for a few long seconds and then smiled, breaking the hard mask on her face.

-I like that,” she bowed her head, “Keep that character always, don’t let them walk all over you, not even my son. Being a female in this day and age can be a little tricky, but not as tricky as it used to be,” Nebraska blinked.

Nebraska blinked. Was he testing her? Because if so, she seemed to have passed the test.

-She’d read about the unification and restructuring of the packs, but she hadn’t been able to hear it from someone who’d been there.

-The smaller packs were at odds with the larger ones, and in the end it was the weaker wolves, in this case the pups and the females, especially the pregnant ones, who suffered. There were some turbulent years when even having pups was forbidden, it was said that there was no point in bringing more wolves into the world if there were enough problems with the ones that already existed- he realised that Nebraska was paying a lot of attention to him- It was during those times that I got pregnant with my twins, it was an accident that I don’t regret, although at that time I felt like killing the father, believe me-.

Nebraska opened her eyes.

-What did you do?” the discomfort from before was beginning to fade.

-That’s a very long story. I’d have to start from the part where I met my current husband, that wolf cub many years younger than me, who at the time was the alpha candidate and ended up under my command to train him. Until our little big accident, and the creation of the Council Do you want to hear the whole thing? Your sons went out with Leoxi and Saisen to tour the grounds so we have time.

Nebraska nodded excitedly. Curiosity gnawed at her insides.

By the time Hades returned hours later daughter-in-law and mother-in-law were both lying on his bed prattling on about a subject to which he was oblivious but whose name was mentioned from time to time.

That was not a good sign. Already having his mother on top of him was one thing. His wife, too…it was something to slit his throat.
