Caesar opened the door and came out an hour later. His countenance wore a cold, pale expression while his brow was painfully furrowed. He was wiping his hands with a handkerchief, which, as much as he tried to hide it in the dressing gown he was wearing, a few drops of b***d were visible to those present.

Sara, Siran, Leoxi and finally Nebraska approached him.

-How is he?” Sara let go of her husband’s arm and César looked at her.

-How are you?” Nebraska repeated the question.

She was serious and her voice came out so straight that the others thought she didn’t feel anything, but inside she was just trying to hold it together. If she crumbled, being the only one at the top of the pack, they would be very vulnerable.

-Queen,” Caesar bowed formally, “I have no good news,” she closed her eyes and then opened them calmly, her hands were beginning to ache from being clenched, “The alpha’s condition is very delicate. The poison in his body is extremely strong and is destroying his organs very fast. Not even his alpha genetics can restore his cells so quickly. We did everything we could to stabilise him, but all the drugs we gave him are being nullified so quickly that there is no time for them to take effect.

Leoxi scraped his teeth and hit the wall near him, splintering it.

-As for Rodrigo,” he continued, “being so young it has also affected his body, but he has consumed a minimum of the poison so his condition, though in danger, is not as serious, still we must not neglect him.

Nebraska trembled and lowered her head. She felt her heart pounding. The thought of losing both her son and her husband was beginning to haunt her. Without realizing it, her breathing began to become agitated.

-Siran spoke before everyone else.

-We are testing his b***d to see if we can replace an antidote, but we don’t have as much time as we wanted. What can be done for now is – he looked at Nebraska and bowed – excuse me for saying this but if you give the alpha some of your b***d we will have at least a few more hours. He has only recently marked her and as a mate her essence is stronger than any transfusion you can give her,” the doctor then turned his head, “Queen, queen, what is it?

Nebraska had heard him, understood what he had to do but the word death throbbed only in her head leaving her in mild shock. The hurried footsteps of one of the soldiers guarding Catherine’s room could be heard down the corridor and he knelt at the omega’s side.

-Queen, bad news, your daughter, your daughter…” he began to hesitate hesitantly, “Your daughter is missing…” His daughter was missing.

Everyone but her looked at him.

-It was her,” Sara sobbed, and Siran clamped her mouth to his chest.

The news hit Nebraska so hard that she staggered slightly. Had it been Catherine? She couldn’t believe it. Another footstep sounded from the other side and this time it was one of the dungeon guards.

-Commander, Commander,” the wolf almost fell to the ground as he stopped abruptly, “Please come back,” he implored, “We don’t know how but Rudoc, Rudoc has escaped,” he said.

-What did you say?” Leoxi growled so loudly that the window panes shook and then looked at Nebraska who still had her head down. His eyes were angry and he blamed her.

-Queen, what are you going to do,” Caesar asked.

-Give the orders, you are the queen,” Leoxi pressed.

-Nebraska.” Sara called out to her.

The omega was breathing heavily. Her husband and son, poisoned, the rejection of her other three children, Catalina had disappeared and was not free of guilt, Rudoc had escaped?

-Nebraska-

-Queen

-Queen –

-AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” a scream of frustration made the walls shudder.

Nebraska turned to the window and dropped forward, clutching the frame as her hair fell forward, covering her sweat-soaked face. Her breathing was visibly shaky and her fingernails almost splintered the wood.

All around her, all voices ceased. Those present stared at her, stunned to see her lose control like that.

-César slowly approached her and touched her shoulder, looking through her hair at her wide, wide-open eyes, “Calm down queen, breathe.

-Nebraska- Sara called shyly from behind her.

Leoxi turned her head to the side, clicking her tongue guiltily. She was young, with a great responsibility, with several unfavourable events around her and they were putting a lot more pressure on her. It was a miracle she hadn’t exploded earlier.

-Leoxi,” he heard her call faintly, “Go replace out what happened and take the strongest soldiers you have and hunt Rudoc down, wherever he is,” he took a breath as if he needed it, “He must not leave the pack boundaries, if he does go in Layan’s direction send someone to report that I need his help, he owes me too much to refuse. Catch him dead or alive.

Even Leoxi was surprised by his words and the accusing look faded slightly. She didn’t know what a great alpha like Layan could owe her but this was no time to ask for explanations.

-Yes Queen,” and without another word she ran off with the soldier.

-Siran, take care of replaceing out where Catalina is and I give you permission to bring her back by any method necessary if she puts up resistance,” she sounded incredibly weak, “Sara I need you to keep an eye on my children, they don’t want to be near me now, and I’m afraid Rudoc will come after them.

-Sara was about to speak but Nebraska’s voice interrupted her.

-Caesar, how much b***d do you need,” the omega looked at the doctor, pushing her damp hair away from her face.

-Too much is not enough,” he said with concern, not knowing how much he would need to stabilise at least one of them.

-Take as much as you need.

-Queen, you must not be rash,” Siran took a step toward her and said seriously.

-After all, it would be more convenient if I were in that bed and not Hades,” he didn’t give them time to reply, but he didn’t feel emotionally stable enough to be tactful with his words.

She didn’t give them time to reply, she turned around and crept into the room where she was awaited by two young she-wolves.

-Siran,” Sara touched his arm, “I think we were too rude.

The wolf didn’t respond, but he had to admit that the way they had all behaved, directly or indirectly accusing him of poisoning the alpha, hadn’t been very correct. They would have to apologise later. Nebraska hadn’t been bad so far. Maybe they had misjudged her. He was the beta of the pack and at that moment he didn’t know what to think.

Nebraska walked over to his son’s bed and stroked his forehead. A silent tear ran down her expressionless face and she leaned in for a k**s. The blue lips contrasted visibly with the other white skin.

-Don’t worry son, I’ll do everything I can to make you well,” she grabbed his hand and squeezed his fingers. He would not cry, not now.

Then she turned to Hades who was lying on a bed on the other side. His forehead was soaked with beads of sweat and she wiped it with a clean cloth on the table. He looked just like her son although his condition was much more dangerous. Nebraska ran her fingers down his cheek. Another tear rolled down her cheek.

-I’m sorry Hades, I’ve only brought you trouble since you found me,” she sobbed lightly, trying to regain control of her emotions, but it was difficult for her to always be neutral about everything. She was not made of iron. “I’m sorry,” she leaned down and left a k**s on the corner of her cold lips.

She heard César enter.

-Queen,” he called calmly.

Nebraska arranged the sheets on both of them and approached the wolf who directed her to a table where a glass bowl and a razor awaited her. She sat down and grabbed the knife and with the blade made three deep gashes in her arm without showing the pain it caused her. The b***d began to gush and she only left her hopes in each drop of the crimson liquid.
