Captive Of The Alpha -
Chapter 66
Cesar roughly grabbed Nebraska’s wrists and pulled them away from the nearly full container, quickly wrapping a towel around her to stop the bleeding. He had stopped tending to her for a few moments and she had practically bled to death cutting her other limb as well.
-What are you doing, my queen? Don’t you value your life?
-Is that enough?” she asked softly.
Caesar looked up from his wounds and then looked at the vessel with a frown.
-Yes, my queen, I think we can manage,” he had told her he would need a lot of b***d, but he never imagined the she-wolf would open her veins to give them enough.
-That’s good,” she wobbled in the chair and one of the she-wolves rushed to her aid, but she shook her head, “I’m fine,” she said, “nothing could be further from the truth.
She now had six deep grooves in each arm equally distributed that hurt considerably although she didn’t show it. And I could have sworn her face was pale, highlighted further by her hair. Seeing the container had given more b***d than she could afford so that her vision was unfocused at times and just sitting there made her dizzy. But she didn’t feel bad about that fact. If her b***d could prolong her husband’s and son’s, she could give herself another wound right then and there.
The wolf bandaged her arms tightly after healing them. They would heal quickly, but not as quickly as they should, so he had to care for them thoroughly. Nebraska leaned against the backrest and sat up when it released her only to lurch dangerously forward.
-My queen,” Caesar reached out to support her, but she took a step back and stood on her own two feet.
-I’m fine,” she gasped lightly, her surroundings spinning and she felt terribly weak.
-She should at least get some rest and eat, in her condition she shouldn’t be walking.
-Caesar, sleep in this situation is a luxury I can’t afford,” she tossed her hair back, “I promise to eat something, but right now there are things I have to do and supervise,” she looked towards her family, “Take care of them.
The wolf watched her go with an attempt to stand upright, but every third step was unsteady. He worried, but the queen had business to attend to and she had said so herself. Inwardly he felt sorry for her. When he was that age all he thought about was running with the herd and having fun with Saisen, the former alpha. But she, as young as she was, had a weight that could crush her at any moment.
Nebraska went outside and had to hold on to the door to catch her breath. The floor was moving or it was her, she didn’t know. She felt like throwing up. Her whole body was telling her to rest. She would do it later if possible.
She resumed walking, holding on to the wall to keep from falling, even the light from the windows was annoying. Siran and Sara must have been obeying her orders so she made the walk alone until one of her knees gave out and she fell forward.
Arms caught her before she fell and she lay for a few seconds against the body in an attempt to regain her strength. She was exhausted.
-My queen, are you all right?
-Liam,” she murmured slowly as she held on to his arms so that she could pull away.
-My queen, your condition, you shouldn’t exert yourself so much, it’s not worth it,” her former beta, as always, was attentive to her.
-Liam, you’ve known me for years, when I’ve sat and watched everything around me fall apart. It’s the same now, I can’t let my family perish without me doing anything.
-Is Hades that important to you? Even to put yourself in that state?
Nebraska narrowed her eyes.
-The pack is my family, not just Hades. He’s my husband and my mate, of course I care about him, but that doesn’t overshadow the rest of it.
-Do I include myself in that, my queen?
She softened her gaze. His insecurity was normal, after all they had been together for years and after she was imprisoned they had barely exchanged words.
-Of course Liam, I was worried about you too,” she said.
The wolf smiled slightly as he helped her to sit up and hugged her without her being able to resist.
-I’ll always be by your side, my queen, even when you don’t want me to be.
Nebraska patted him on the back. She wasn’t used to that kind of contact, except from her husband and some of her children, so she felt uncomfortable and squirmed to be released. Liam was unapologetic and looked disappointed.
-My queen I have also come to talk to you about something, I have seen strange movements in the cells after Rudoc escaped, we have a traitor,” he said.
-Did you see who it is, did you notify Leoxi,” he ran his hand over his temple. More worries.
-Yes, my queen, but he ignored me, claiming I don’t have the authority to be in these parts.
Nebraska frowned. Leoxi was loyal to Hades, he was her twin brother. Surely he was upset with her, and that must have extended to all his people.
-Take me there, Liam,” she said, taking a deep breath and looking behind her for strength.
The wolf nodded and helped her by holding her arm even though she refused at first. The walk was quite torturous for Nebraska. The time she had gone, Hades had carried her so as not to strain her body. Just remembering it made her chest ache. Worry was eating her up inside and yet she longed for his touch. She missed the way he kissed her with or without her consent. The caresses he gave her and the way he traced her body with his fingers.
-My queen,” Liam called out to her as he realized her mind was elsewhere.
She shook her head and they walked on. It may have taken them a while but they finally reached the entrance to the dungeons and just by standing there all of Nebraska’s alerts went off.
-My queen, stay behind me,” Liam told her when he saw no guards standing guard and no Leoxi himself.
Nebraska focused her scent and searched. There were wolves inside, they were not empty.
-Liam, inside,” she nodded.
He nodded and walked slowly with her behind him. She felt a little better with the air she had taken in but that didn’t take away from the fact that she was weak.
Walking down the first three steps she could see Leoxi lying in the middle of the corridor leading to the deserted cells, around him there were at least four more wolves, unconscious. The she-wolf’s first impulse was to run to him, seeing him like this reminded her of her husband’s condition, but she shouldn’t be reckless.
-My queen, besides them I can’t smell anyone else,” her companion reaffirmed, “I think it’s safe,” she said.
After that statement she approached the group cautiously and shook Leoxi by the shoulder.
-Rei…na,” she murmured faintly, which if it weren’t for her hearing she couldn’t have heard.
-What happened?” but before she could get an answer Liam’s body fell at her side with his eyes closed, startling her.
And soon after a loud thud landed on the back of her head. Being so weak, she hadn’t seen it coming. She’d lowered her defences for a second and that had happened. That was why he was always alert. She cursed as she felt her body being dragged before she completely lost consciousness.
