Captive Of The Alpha -
Chapter 79
Nebraska had decided many things in the moments she was able to take to herself to think. First, she could not yet tell her husband about the child in her womb. She knew he would be overjoyed, but that would only make her worries more. As queen and her half, her job was to take the weight off his shoulders, not put more on them.
Hades had suffered the loss of several attempted pups, if she told him, firstly he would not let her participate in the coming war and that was a luxury they could not afford or else they would not have given her the trust of their bloods. Secondly, she would be thinking all the time that her cub might die and she didn’t want to see him distressed. Now was a decisive moment. All energies and minds needed to be focused. The alpha had many wolves to lead and she couldn’t be a burden.
She rubbed her stomach lovingly and smiled. At least he was glad that she would be the one who could give him what he craved most. Even though he had adopted her pups and cared for them and loved them, he couldn’t complain about that. Nothing compared to his own offspring. He was also aware that with the b***d inside her, she would be able to give birth without any problems and would be able to survive more effectively.
The other thing she had decided was that she would end it all that night. The moon would soon be high and full in the black sky. The wolves were stronger with it and it would witness perhaps the greatest massacre after the Great War where the packs were finally created. Liam had been a part of her life since she was a mere pup. She never imagined that he would be the one to stab her in the back and destroy the most important people in her life like her family. That night she had sworn to herself that she would put an end to her past and start over from scratch, with her new pack, her new life, her new family.
She walked around looking for Hades. She heard that he was outside and around him there were various murmurs. As he left the mansion, he realised that he was in front of the male wolves of the pack. There were all those who were going to fight that night. Behind them were others he had not seen. They must have been part of the army of Layan, Asule and the twin alphas. He understood that even though they were there they had not left the herd alone, but the number they had brought was considerable and necessary.
With that number Nebraska knew the situation would be extremely dangerous. Hades spoke, giving indications of what the organisation would be like, and everyone listened attentively.
-We are not aware of how many wolves will attack our lands,” she heard him say.
She approached him and when he stopped for a moment to watch her approach, she replied.
-That is the number that will attack, they will be here for a little less than an hour. They are moving fast even though the condition of many is not the best.
She heard him growl. Hades’ pack was one of the largest and had grown after the merger, but that didn’t mean the defence force was immense. There were many pups and she-wolves and they wouldn’t be in the battle so he could only count on a fraction of them, though they were strong.
With all the wolves that had gathered they were almost evenly matched. So victory would go to whoever killed the fastest.
Nebraska felt several eyes on her and knew it was because of the change in her appearance. She had slicked her hair back but to have it grow overnight was not normal, plus she knew her presence was more imposing than before.
A howl was heard from far away. They were getting closer and the alphas began to move the wolves strategically towards the clearing in the forest in front of the pack entrances. It was a flat area where you could only attack head on. It was the best terrain to fight an enemy as treacherous as Liam.
Layan approached Nebraska and smelled the strong scent of Hades coming from her and knew he had reaffirmed his dominance over the omega, as well as the faint scent of his past rut. He said nothing, it must be part of his whole process. But there was also a small, very faint essence that he couldn’t define but it made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end and he stared at her.
Nebraska took her hand.
-Take care of yourself.
He smiled back.
-Don’t worry, someone like him is no match for me or Hades.
That was something to prove. The wolf cracked his knuckles with his old friend Saisen and walked behind Celesia towards the first line of defence.
Hades made sure she was in a suitable position so that she could escape in any case. Her father would guard her along with Leoxi, the recently arrived Layan beta, and at least twenty other wolves from all the packs. He approached his wife and hugged her.
-Don’t do anything crazy,” he said against her ear, “If things get tense, my father will get you out of here. Don’t resist, that’s all I ask. If anything happens to me, you have to take care of the herd.
-Nothing will happen to you,” she hugged him back.
When he released her, she put a hand on his chest and closed her eyes.
-This is the only thing I can give you before you go,” she said.
Hades felt an embracing warmth in his chest that went into his mind and it was as if everything around him expanded.
-Can you hear it?” Nebraska’s voice echoed in his head, as he lowered his face he realised that she was looking at him with her golden eyes.
-This is…” he replied in kind.
-A way for you to communicate with everyone through me. I will be the bridge. You can control everyone easier.
Hades’ eyes widened in surprise at how far his she-wolf’s power had extended. He looked at his father.
-Pa?
-That sounds strange,” Saisen touched his temple, not being used to the voices in his mind in the current guise, “Don’t talk to your mother like that too much, you know she doesn’t like it when they’re walking around in her mind.
The alpha turned his attention back to his wife and kissed her forehead.
-Thank you, this will help me a lot.
-Be careful, don’t let Liam bite you,” he told her but deep inside she knew that she would be the one burying her fangs in his neck.
Hades left her side and anguish consumed her, but she tried to remain calm. She steeled herself and closed her eyes.
-What are you doing?” Saisen stood alert at her side as the scent of enemies grew more potent.
-Dispelling my mind throughout the herd and setting up a barrier of control. It is the reverse effect of mind dominance. I could do it with just one wolf, but now my ability has increased considerably,” she took a deep breath, “This way, Liam won’t be able to bring any wolf on our side under his control.
Saisen nodded his head.
-What if something were to happen to you and that barrier were to be broken?
She took a few seconds to respond, concentrating as she began to weave the threads between each of the individuals.
-With Liam’s power she could destroy anyone’s consciousness quickly. Even Layan and Hades are no strangers to that. Nothing can happen to me, otherwise we’d be losing without him struggling.
-Nebraska, you really are a fearsome she-wolf.
She smiled at him.
-I’m just a she-wolf protecting what’s hers.
