Ryan followed her, saying, "Honestly, from the moment I saw you, I could tell something was off. If you need any help, just let me know. After all, we grew up together and were childhood friends." Back then, he had a crush on Jamie. But when his family moved to another city, they lost touch, and those unspoken feelings faded, tucked away in the past.

Now he had a girlfriend, and he knew he and Jamie weren't meant to be. But for the sake of their shared history, he still wanted to help if he could.

"Thanks, but there's really nothing I need help with. I can manage everything on my own," Jamie replied, pausing to thank him. She didn't want to owe anyone any more favors. Ryan had his own life, and so did she; she didn't want to pull him into her problems. "Alright, but if you don't mind, could we sit down for a few minutes to catch up?" Ryan asked again.

Jamie agreed, and they chatted briefly about their lives since they had last met. When Ryan heard that her child was sick, his expression darkened. "And where's the father? It's not just your child. How can he just abandon you both like this?" "He doesn't even know this child exists," Jamie replied with a bitter smile. "If he knew, his family would've forced me to terminate the pregnancy."

She was referring to Ben's parents. For men, having a child was simple. They could have as many as they wanted without much consequence. But his family would never have allowed a child of theirs to be born to someone they deemed unworthy. From the moment she chose to keep the child, Jamie knew she would be solely responsible for raising him, without expecting any help.

"You'd have been better off not

having the child in the first place. Raising a child on your own,

especially one who's sick, meanet

you're sacrificing your whole life,"

Ryan said, his disapproval clear.

Jamie understood he was speaking out of concern. "I still loved him. This child is my only connection to him, my only family. If I got pregnant with him, it means we were meant to be connected in some way."

Ryan was left speechless, unsure of what to say. After a pause, he took out his phone. "Let's add each other. I'm a teacher now, so who knows? Maybe one day your kid will end up in my class."

He had already taken out his phone, and Jamie couldn't refuse. After adding him, she stood, exchanged a few more pleasantries, and prepared to return to Charlie's room.

As Ben approached, their voices grew clearer, and he heard Jamie mention her child several times. So, was that $10,000 meant for prenatal checkups and to have another man's child? Fury filled Ben's face. He reached out, grabbing Jamie's arm and yanking her back forcefully.

Jamie nearly fell, barely managing to steady herself.
