Chapter 72

Fiona carefully picked Adrianna up, cradling her in her arms. She spotted a small closet nearby and hurried inside, laying her friend down gently. "Stay here," she whispered, making sure Adrianna was hidden from view. She barricaded the door with a heavy crate, her heart pounding in her chest as the chaos outside intensified.

She listened intently as the growls and shouts of the werewolves echoing in the halls. Just as she thought she might have a moment of reprieve, the ground shook violently beneath her, and a wall nearby collapsed with a thunderous crash. Dust and debris filled the air as Fiona stumbled back, instinctively closing the closet door to shield Adrianna from the chaos.

"Get ready," she muttered to herself, adrenaline surging as she prepared to confront whatever threat might emerge. She turned, bracing herself against the wall as she faced the opening wheir the wall had fallen.

From the dust and rubble, a tall, shirtless man enserged. His body was covered in tattoos, and his eyes glowed an eerie red, scanning the room as if searching for something. Instead of attacking, he simply stopped and stared at Fiona, his gaze piercing through the dust.

Fiona tightened her grip on her dagger, refusing to lower her guard. The man didn't seem to be a werewolf, but something about him sent a chill down her spine. "Who are you?" she demanded, her voice steady despite the fear coursing through her

The man's lips curled into an unsettling smile. "I finally found you," he said, taking a step closer.

Fiona's heart raced. "What are you talking about?" she asked, keeping her distance, her instincts screaming at her to be ready for a fight. "Don't you dare move!" She held the knife towards him.

The man laughed softly, taunting her. "You really don't remember me? Not at all! Hmmm why does that sound a little insulting?" he shook his head. "Ah. It doesn't matter. The important thing is that I've finally found you." He stepped closer, his demeanor relaxed, as if he had all the time in the world

Fiona frowned, confusion swirling in her mind. She didn't have time to figure out who he was. As he continued to advance, she took it as her cue. She gritted her teeth as she hinged at him, a dagger aimed for his chest.

He sidestepped easily, grabbing her wrist and twisting her arm. The dagger clattered to the floor as he threw her back against the wall. Fiona gasped. pain radiating through her body, but she quickly regained her footing. She was not going to give up. "You're going to have to do better than that," he said, a mocking grin spreading across his face. He swung a fist toward her, and she barely managed to block it, the force of the blow rattling her bones.

Fiona retaliated, aiming kick at his midsection, but he caught her foot and twisted, sending her sprawling to the ground. She scrambled to gel back up, bun he was already upon her, landing a quick jabs at her ribs that made her cry out in pain.

"I can't believe the Rosenthals wouldn't train you considering your skills," he said, shaking his head as if disappointed. "Are they all crazy?"

Fiona's confusion deepened, but she pushed it aside. She couldn't afford to lose focus. Gritting her teeth, she charged at him again, determined to fight back. "What the hell are you talking about!?" she shouted

The man simply laughed, stepping and effortlessly, "Don't bother. You're done fighting," he said, raising an eyebrow. "It's best if you just come

with me

Just then, the barricaded door crashed down, splintering as it gave way. Fint and thei man turned to see Regor and Elijah standing there,

The man hissed, irritation flashing across his features as he took a step back, eyes darting between Fiona and the newcomers. "You're not supposed to be here" he growled, advancing slightly toward her. This time the man finally showed signs that he was going to take things seriously. But Elijah Wat faster. He charged forward, kicking the man hard in the chest, sending him stumbling back "Get away from her!" Elijah shouted, fists denched and ready for a light.

"Regor will take care of it," Elijah replied, determination flashing in his eyes. He didn't wait for her to respond: he sprinted toward the balcony. kicked the door open, and leaped from the second floor into the maze-like garden behind the palace.

Fiona closed her eyes, feeling her body tremble with fatigue. The fight, combined with the healing she had done, had drained her. As the cool night air rushed past, she tried to steady her breathing, but her flesh felt like it was vibrating with exhaustion.

After what felt like an eternity, they landed softly on the ground. Fiona quickly ask him to put her down. She had already used a bit of her skills to heal herself. She didn't want to tire him out considering there might be enemies somewhere in this place. Luckily, he complied. Elijah set her down, and Fiona took a moment to gather her bearings. She looked around, her heart still racing. "Is this place safe now?"

Elijah paused, taking a deep whiff of the air. "Yes, for the moment," he confirmed.

"Then what just happened?" Fiona pressed, her brow furrowing with concern. "What's going on! Who was that man?"

Elijah's expression turned serious, and he motioned for her to follow him further into the garden. "We need to move quickly. I'll explain. everything, but not here."

Fiona gritted her teeth. That attack just now felt targeted. As if.... T need to know," she insisted. For some reason, she felt like this was a very urgent matter that she needed to deal with. What are we dealing with? What about the palace! Can you at least tell me why that man seemed to think he was looking for me!"

"Because he might be looking for you Elijah answered. "And he might be right."
