Chapter 76

Fiona, unaware of Zach's thoughts, continued healing the soldiers, though an unsettling realization began to creep into her mind. The poison was potent enough to incapacitate werewolves, which was alarming enough on its own. But the more she focused on the soldiers, the more it became clear that this poison hadn't just been administered during the attack. It was like a dormant toxin, lying in wait until it was triggered.

She moved from one soldier to the next, her brow furrowing as she pieced together the implications. The poison didn't just incapacitate; it suggested a level of premeditation that chilled her to the bone. It was strong enough to knock down even the most resilient of their kind. This wasn't a simple ambush, it had the hallmarks of a calculsed assault.

Glancing at Elise and her father, she noticed their intense focus on the soldiers as well. They were silent, but their furrowed brows and exchanged glances told her they were coming to the same conclusion. Fiona bit her lip, her thoughts racing. There was a high possibility that this was an inside job, that they had an ally close by.

The very thought made her shiver. The Lycans were notorious for their ruthlessness; they were not just a pack but a formidable force that wouldn't hesitate to strike when they saw an opportunity. The fact that they had apparently used rogues to attack the palace last night was already a slap to the werewolf world. If the others knew that these soldiers had been poisoned for an extended period, they would surely start asking questions

She could already imagine the panic that would ensue once this information got out. It would not only jeopardize the Royals standing among the other packs but could also lead to an all-out war. How could they have been so vulnerable

After what felt like an eternity, the convulsing soldiers began to settle, their bodies finally at peace. She released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding, feeling the tension ease from her shoulders.

Lord Rosenthal immediately got up and gracefully moved toward King Nicholas and Queen Lyanna. Forgive me for not greeting you earlier," he said without hiding the fatigue in his voice.

King Nicholas dismissed him with a wave of his hand. "Saving the lives of these soldiers was far more important than formalities." he replied, his focus still on the recovering warriors.

However, Queen Lyanna's attention shifted to Fiona, who stood behind her father. The queen narrowed her eyes, suspicion and disbelief crossing her features. "However, I would like to know why did you hide the fact that you could heal?" she demanded, her tone sharp. Everyone turned their gaze toward Fiona, the weight of their scrutiny pressed down on her. She swallowed hard, her heart racing. The feeling reminded her of how her father had always treated her while growing up. It felt accusatory. As if, she just made a mistake by helping those soldiers. "I didn't hide it," she lifted her gaze and met the Queen's gaze. "I didn't think it was that important for me to flaunt it around."

"Not important?" Queen Lyanna interrupted, stepping closer, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. "You're telling me that you didn't think healing was important when we are on the brink of war!"

Fiona straightened, trying to regain her composure. "It wasn't something I ever considered using outside of my family," she replied, frustration creeping into her voice. "I thought it was just a part of who I am, not a tool to be used for political games

"Besides, it wasn't here that wanted to hide it," Elijah's intervention was something that Fiona expected. However, a part of her still wished that he would let her handle this situation. "It was me, Elijah said.

Seeing how the situation was about to escalate, King Nicholas immediately cleared his throat, breaking the tension. He looked at Lord Rosenthal, Flise, and Fiona "Would you mind accompanying me to my study!"
