Dead Luna
Chapter 59

Alexander's POV

My officers and I drove over 3 hours this morning from our wolven capital near Seattle to the Willamette pack in Portland Oregon based on the report of Willamette's Alpha Garrett. His claim was that there was a special wolf staying there temporarily, blessed by the moon goddess herself, and she was looking for a mate. If what this Alpha says is true, that she is young, beautiful, and blessed by the goddess, she will be a perfect Queen Luna for me. And I will hopefully have the heir I've needed all these years. Eleanor had been a good Queen Luna, beloved by our people. But not exactly beloved by myself, and we never had any pups. After several years of trying to have pups, I eventually gave up and stopped visiting her bed. When Eleanor passed away 2 years ago of that dreadful Covid disease, I was saddened, naturally. But I was also relieved. So after a decent period of mourning, I began my search for a new Queen Luna. Someone of my own choosing this time, rather than a political union forced on me by my father. When I arrived at Willamette pack, I insisted that I be taken to meet this special wolf immediately. The Alpha wanted to play coy with me, saying this she wolf Amelia was busy right now and we should wait until she breaks for lunch, but I demanded to be lead to her. Who is this Alpha to tell me what I can or can't do?

And then I saw her. Amelia. She was beautiful! Everyone else in the room was bowing and baring their necks to me in response to my aura, but she stood up from the little couch she had been sitting on next to a scruffy wolf. She stood tall and proud, giving me just a tiny nod in deference. Amazing! And she reminded me of someone whom I had loved many years ago, with her wavy dark brown hair. A she wolf whom had been from this very pack, but this girl must not be from here as I was told she was only visiting for a few days. Then the girl asks how she should address me, and I give her the usual forms of address. Then since I decided I like the looks of her, I add cheekily that she could also call me Alex or mate. Only she rejects me out of hand, saying it's impossible. I ask why as tactfully as I can while incensed by her refusal, when she shocks me with the biggest news flash I've ever been hit with!

I'm her father.

Everyone in the room, including myself, are momentarily stunned. My Royal Beta Alfred and Royal Gamma Glen are immediately mind linking me.

"Careful," I tell them, "she seems harmless but it could be a trap!"

"Her eyes are the exact color and shape of yours," Alfred mentions.

"Her aura is very strong, but I think she is unaware of how to use it," Glen mentions. "Do you suppose she has a Lycan? She seems just about the right age to have gotten one if she is indeed a royal." "Ask her. Not me!"

Glen asks the girl if she has a Lycan, and she demonstrates that she does have one. One who is a bit rude, in fact.

"We need to replace out more about this she wolf!" I say to Alfred and Glen. But as soon as that thought leaves my head, she is ushering everyone out of the room for one of her so called "appointments", and we are left standing in the hall. "One question." I request of the girl just before she closes the door in my face. "Who is your mother?"

"Juliette Hearst." And the door closes. I stare at it for a moment, wanting to go back inside and ask for more. But I was not going to beg for answers. Nothing this girl says would be news to me, as I can easily guess the answer to nearly all my questions. I glare at Alpha Garrett. "Take us to your office! I do not lurk outside in hallways."

We head to the alphas office, which is on the opposite side of the building on the same floor.

"Why did you not tell me this is the daughter of Juliette Hearst? You made me look like a fool!" I growl at Alpha Garrett, placing blame where blame is due. "And more importantly, why was I never told of her existence?"

"How was I supposed to know this was her daughter? And anyway, I thought Julie was lying about her baby daddy."

"Julie is your cousin, and Amelia looks just like her, you moron!" I remind him. "And whether or not you believed your cousin about the child's father, I should have been told about a possible heir, in order to verify paternity."

Alpha Garrett slinks down into his chair. I remain standing, unable to sit still. I have a daughter that I just met. I must know more about her. I must protect her! I need to replace her mother.

"Everyone, listen up!" I demand in my Royal voice. "No one is to speak of this without my express permission. Any leaks will be traced back to this room, and the punishment will be severe." "Someone better track down Larry and put him under orders immediately." Luna Heather mumbles.

"You," I order her. "Make it happen!"

The Luna immediately leaves to do as I order. I look around at the few who are left. Alfred, Glen, and Alpha Garrett. I look at Garrett. "What do you know about this she wolf? You called me here because she is blessed by the goddess, but you don't even seem to know anything about her."

"All I know is that at the pack alliance meeting about a month ago, she was brought to our attention." Garrett tells me. "She had supposedly been attacked and killed by rogue wolves, but had been brought back to life by the moon goddess to work as her assistant in helping to match wolves with their mates, along with a special wolf. And that as a reward she could choose her own mate. Nobody ever mentioned a last name, and I haven't seen my cousin in more than 20 years. I didn't even remember the name of Julie's baby, she left here soon after the pup was born. All I recall is that it was a girl, and my dad considered Julie and the baby as a threat to my position as Alpha because of their connection to the previous Alpha. Dad is the one who sent them away." "Where did Juliette go?" I ask, anxious to know where my family had been all these years.

"I'm not positive," Garrett tells me. "But I may have heard Julie mentioned once or twice by my sister Deirdre, who was married to the Gamma of Winter Moon. My oldest sister Francine is the Luna there, as well. So I suppose Julie might have gone there." I will need to investigate all this. In the meantime I'm keeping an eye on the time, so that as soon as Amelia takes her break, I will see her again. Now that I have found that I have a daughter, I will need to keep a close eye on her. I will need to keep her safe. And I need to replace my Juliette, and thank her for raising my daughter. She obviously raised her well, loved and cared for her all these years, in safety and away from the political intrigues of life as a royal Lycan. I'm sure I could not have done any better. But now that Amelia is found, and I will claim her, word will get around that she is my heir and she could be in danger from my enemies, or used to control me in some nefarious manner. I can't allow that to happen!

Also, I will need to replace a suitable mate for her, immediately. I will allow her to choose, just as Moon goddess intended, but she must be made to see reason and allow me to add a few candidates to her potential mate list. I will need to consult with my advisers about whom would be the best, politically, to ally with our wolf nation.

And perhaps I need to ask for assistance from my daughters Lycan to continue my search for a new Queen Luna. Yes! I will do just that. I'm very glad to have found that I have a daughter, but it would be better if I were to have more heirs.

I glance at the clock for the millionth time since I entered the Alphas office. 11:59. It is time to get to know my Princess.
