Chapter 369

Maja wasn’t even a bit embarrassed. After all, if lan could watch the Pennyfeather family go belly up,

how on earth would he let ByteWise Technologies

bite the dust?

Deep down, he’d probably relish the idea of ByteWise Technologies knocking the stuffing out of the

Pennyfeathers, leaving them knee–deep in debt. Then he could watch his not–so–beloved wife never

bounce back.

At the end of the day, would Holden, even with his apparent soft spot for Maja, foot the ginormous bill

for the Pennyfeathers?

The first round of funding was done. Here came round two.

The Pennyfeathers, at this point, were like sitting ducks for fraudsters; being swindled out of such a

massive amount definitely hinted at their lack of business acumen.

It was like a bottomless pit..

Even if Holden did cough up the cash, it could potentially drive a wedge between him and Maja.

Plus, Holden was really good to her. Why on earth would she let him go broke?

Maja was clear–headed but couldn’t help but bear some grudges against lan.

They were still husband and wife, yet he was gallivanting around with Carlene, leaving her the butt of

jokes.

His departure abroad three years ago threw her under the bus.

And now, his meddling was behind the Pennyfeathers‘ towering debt.

He was always cold–blooded towards the Pennyfeathers.

Maja lowered her gaze with a wry smile.

lan sensed her mood and hesitated.

But Maja was already shooting a smile at Samuel.

“Mr. Brown, ByteWise Technologies has been the death of many companies, and it’s indeed a tough

nut to crack. Mr. Raymond’s intel is his own to share; we’ll drop the subject now.”

Seeing the sorrow in Maja’s eyes, Samuel was almost breathless.

Did he think lan was really heartless? He had been intimate with her. What’s the big deal about lending

a hand?

She was still his wife, for crying out loud!

Samuel was now itching to see lan get his comeuppance.

Ian, catching Samuel’s agitation from the corner of his eye, was peèved.

What the hell was up with this guy? Why was he all wound up when the husband himself was chill?

The waiter arrived with pastries, breaking the tense atmosphere in the private room.

Samuel immediately placed a plate of pastries in front of Maja.

“Penny, give these a try.”

There were about ten pastries, each with a different shape..

Maja got one shaped like a kitten.

She nodded politely, “Thank you, Mr. Brown.”

On the side, Carlene shook lan’s arm, “lan, can I have the kitty? I have a cat at home, and I love cats.”

lan glanced at Maja.

Maja quickly averted her gaze and passed the pastry over.

The waiter, seeing this, quickly explained.

“Even though they look different, they all taste the same.”

Realizing she’d said too much, she quickly excused herself.

Jan handed the kitty–shaped pastry to Carlene.

Carlene smirked triumphantly at Maja and began eating with satisfaction.

Maja pretended not to notice her provocation, and such behavior was utterly pointless.

lan was already leaning towards Carlene, and she really didn’t get why she kept doing these things,

which only made her look cheap.

She remained calm and collected, but Samuel was visibly riled.

She was so fake. How could lan tolerate such a person?

He took a deep breath, then picked a bunny–shaped candy for Maja.

“Penny, here you go.”

But at the same time, lan slid over a dog–shaped candy that looked a lot like Coco.

lan just pushed it over without a word.

Maja didn’t accept it but took Samuel’s bunny candy instead.

Samuel sneered and shot lan a look.

“It seems Penny prefers bunnies, and dogs shed too much. They’re really not worth it.”

He wasn’t aware that Maja had a dog. Even if she had posted pictures, people like Samuel would

rather enjoy life than spend time looking at others‘ photos.

Ian’s earlier gesture was so subtle that no one noticed, including Carlene.

Now hearing Samuel mention dogs, all eyes were on them.

lan took a sip of his wine leisurely.

“Of course, spoiling a dog is pointless.”

Clearly, he was indirectly mocking Samuel’s pursuit of Penny.

To be honest, this was the first time Samuel saw lan mock someone.

And Maja, who was quietly eating her bunny candy, almost choked hearing that.

She knew well enough that lan had a sharp tongue.

Samuel took a deep breath and put on a brave face,

“I’m more than willing to chase after Penny, and it’s her husband’s fault for being a deadbeat.”

lan frowned slightly, not seeing how this had anything to do with her husband.

“Penny is indeed charming, but she’s already married, and you’re still chasing her, Mr. Brown.” His tone

was somewhat chilly.

Samuel, thick–skinned as he was, didn’t take it as a slight.

“Naturally, once I win her over, I’ll definitely send her husband a big fat gift.”

For some reason, lan felt a twinge in his chest and put down his wine glass.
