Wyndham International Hospital cafeteria that afternoon was full of doctors who practice at the hospital. For Anna, who was often late for lunch, and even missed lunch, it was an unusual sight. John invited Anna to sit at one of the empty tables in the corner of the room. The two of them waited for the menu orders to be delivered to their table.

"Hey, you guys ... congratulations on your engagement this morning," said Doctor Isaac Beneton, a neurosurgeon at the hospital.

Anna and John stood up to accept their colleague's warm handshake and hug. "Thanks, Doc," said Anna.

The doctors who were sitting at the table with Doctor Isaac also gave their congratulations to Anna and John. When their lunch menu came, they ended the pleasantries and returned to their seats.

"Anna, are you comfortable with this sudden change in status?" asked John as he ate his food.

Anna chewed on her beefsteak as she said, "To be honest... no, I wish we could still work professionally. My job is still the top priority in my life, John."

"Yeah, I'll try to make things as natural as possible with you being my lover and fiancé. Maybe we can spend more time outside of work, Anna," John answered hopefully.

Anna only replied with a nod and a smile. She wasn't that interested in dating right now. JC also offered to be his girlfriend, but she still wasn't moved. Anna is indeed difficult to fall in love because seeing too much blood and feeling the tension in the operating room makes her heart go numb.

After they finished their lunch, they separated to their respective places of practice. John went up to the 8th floor, while Anna went down to the 1st floor to the ER section. Nurse Belina rushed to her, carrying a new patient data file. "Emergency patient with appendicitis, Doc. A 60-year-old man with complaints of severe pain in the lower abdomen. The x-ray results are listed in the patient data file," reported Nurse Belina.

Anna read all the information about her prospective surgical patient carefully while listening to Nurse Belina speak. When everything was read, Anna said, "Has the surgery permit from the patient's family been signed? Is the OK room ready?" "Everything is ready, Doc. Whenever you want to start, you can, soon we will move the patient from the ER to the OK room number 2," said Nurse Belina swiftly.

"Continue, Nurse. I'll get ready now. Don't forget to prepare a spare blood bag in case B rhesus + is needed, this patient must be operated on immediately," Anna ordered then rushed to change into sterile surgical clothes.

When Anna entered the cold and dim OK room, her assistants were already waiting for her with their usual pounding hearts. Sometimes Anna feels ticklish too, most of the people who work in the operating room are tense all the time. In fact, if you understand what to do, everything will be fine. Maybe sometimes unexpected things happen, but Anna prefers to just do her part. Don't expect anything out of control. When the patient's life is at the limit of the death gate, she will try. However, she will never blame herself if that life is out of her grasp.

This time, Anna opened the patient's abdomen (abdominal cavity) near the appendix area so as not to leave a stitch that was too wide on the patient's skin later. It is true that the old reddish intestine looks infected and threatened with decay. The rancid smell of blood mixed with an unpleasant odor filled the OK room. Anna took forceps to secure the appendix from contaminating the abdominal cavity before she sutured and cut off the rotting part.

All eyes were watching Anna's agile hand playing needle and thread with a needle holder and tweezers in her left hand. The hands are so agile as if dancing on the internal organs of a patient who is lying under general anesthesia. It didn't take long for Anna to sew up the abdominal muscles and skin afterward.

Finally, the appendix removal operation was completed. Anna checks all the patient's vitals post-surgery and looks at the heart rate monitor. "Done. Perform standard postoperative care and report to me when the patient is awake, ok?" Anna said to the nurse in charge of the operating room and then left the OK room.

Doctor Abigail Newton chased after Anna who was walking towards the elevator to go up to her room on the 3rd floor. "Hey, Anna, wait!" she cried and then stopped in front of Anna breathlessly while carrying a yellow patient data folder. "I need your help with my patient, are you free now?" she said.

Doctor Abigail Newton, a 35-year-old female doctor with thin glasses, is Anna's senior pediatrician. Brown hair, wide eyes of beautiful light blue, and pink lips that are slightly thick and parted look sexy. Her body is tall and slender, with a full chest. She is one of the single female doctors who many of her colleagues approach at this hospital.

"What's the case, Abby? I'd be happy to help you, is it an emergency case?" asked Anna effectively, she was always nimble in anything.

"Hernia diaphragmatic, he's a 10-year-old boy. Involved in a child fight and injury to the thoracoabdominal cavity, I've had an x-ray and that's the result. He's not breathing well, can you handle it now?" asked Doctor Abigail Newton, looking expectantly into Anna's face.

"Yes, I want complete patient data and routine preoperative procedures to be completed, maybe you can contact ER and OK to help you transfer the patient to my desk, Abby. Aahh... what's that boy's name?" Anna replied, canceling her intention to take the elevator and instead of walking hand in hand with Abby to the ER room.

"Ian Jeremy Brandson, just call Ian. Thank you, Anna. I hope he will be helped soon, his breathing is a bit heavy and short of breath right now," said Doctor Abigail Newton handing Ian's patient data folder to Nurse Belina who was in charge of the morning ER shift until noon.

"Wish me luck, Abby. I hope I can do it quickly and successfully. Thoracoabdominal surgery is tiring and stressful, this is my third case in OK today, I hope the last one is today," replied Anna with a sweet smile on her lips.

Nurse Belina took care of the surgical approval file to be signed by the patient's family and prepared blood bags according to the blood type of the prospective patient for surgery by Doctor Annastacia Brighton. She sent her partner from the ER to ask the officer in charge of the OK room to prepare the room for surgery right away. After 15 minutes passed, everything was well coordinated and complete.

"Everything is ready, Doctor Anna. You can go to OK 1 now," said Nurse Belina. Even though the woman is 42 years old, she is very energetic and very reliable to be on the front line of the hospital's emergency services. "Thank you, Nurse Belina. I'm going there now," said Anna and rushed to the OK 1 room. She was ready to undergo major surgery for the next 3 hours.
