Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 684
She effortlessly mingled with the top brass, wine glass in hand, all smiles and laughter. Naturally, Barrett was glued to her side. Chloe couldn't help but frown. She was well aware Barrett was Claire's flame. Claire spared no expense on him, even handing over the WORLD Shopping Center for his sake. Yet, the last time Chloe saw them, Claire seemed to treat Barrett more like a toy, with not an ounce of warmth. So, what exactly was Claire's deal with Barrett?
Lost in thought, a ripple of excitement swept through the crowd. Chloe turned to see what all the fuss was about. When she caught sight of who it was, she stiffened a bit. It was Diana. Since that reality show wrapped up, Chloe hadn't run into Diana. But she knew about Diana's car accident, which had led to an amputation. The crash happened because Eve sent Diana her and Connor's marriage certificate, nearly sparking a feud between the Gilbert and Nagel families. Connor had to step in to smooth things over. Eve got shipped off overseas. Connor even transferred 5% of Sartori Corporation's shares to Diana as a way of making amends. Chloe was clued into all of this.
Her feelings about Diana were a mixed bag. She remembered meeting Diana for the first time-like a porcelain doll in a shop window. During their time together, it was clear Diana was as innocent as they come. She was head over heels for Connor, so much so that she tried to jump into the sea when he didn't pick her. The thought of it made Chloe's heart ache. Chloe figured a girl like that needed to go through some tough times to grow up. But she never thought the price would be so steep. Diana had definitely changed. She was a far cry from the girl she used to be. Chloe recalled Diana's long black hair and fondness for pink or white dresses, always looking so girlish.
But today, Diana was in a black tulle dress, with a top covered in black feathers, and a skirt that hid her legs. Her hair was still long and black, but her makeup was way more grown-up. Sitting in a wheelchair, she looked cold and distant, both polished and broken. Like a black swan with clipped wings. Diana's entrance drew plenty of attention, with folks whispering and pointing. Spotting this, Claire made her way over.
"Diana, what brings you to a place like this?" Claire's tone was anything but friendly. A crowd gathered, everyone aware Diana was the child of Claire's ex and his mistress. Naturally, Claire wasn't thrilled to see her. But people weren't strangers to Diana either. She used to be under Mr. Connor's wing. But now... Without Mr. Connor, her being here was like a lamb wandering into a lion's den.
Noting Claire's expression, the PR
manager Martin, quickly added, "Diana, are you sure you're in the right place? This is the Sartori Corporation's annual gala, not the Shen's!"
"We're
Diana. Now that you're down
Tow to be dancing later,
Swet
why even bother?" Narugi
Diana shot him a look, "What's your name?"
The PR manager chuckled, "I'm Reyna, What's it to you,
Diana's reply was frosty, "I'll remember you."
