Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 690
Jeffery strode confidently to the center of the stage. His casual suit, something he often wore, gave him an air of effortless charm. Even though he was well past his prime, his energy was undeniable, and he stood with a straight back that commanded respect. His eyes, clear and piercing, radiated authority without needing to raise his voice. Who could have guessed that this silver-haired gentleman was the mastermind behind the Sartori Corporation empire? The room below the stage was unusually silent. Jeffery picked up the microphone and got straight to the point, "Today, I'm here to announce three things."
"First, there's been a change in the company's shares. Chloe and Diana now each hold five percent, making them shareholders."
"Second, as many of you know, Chloe is now part of the Sartori family as our daughter-in-law. From here on out, no one is to mess with her!"
"Third, I'm getting on in years and it's time for me to retire. As for who'll take over the company, we'll hold a shareholders' meeting tomorrow morning. The eight major shareholders will vote, and we'll announce the results to the media immediately." With that, Jeffery handed the mic to Jason and walked off the stage without another word.
Jason took over, "Thank you, Ms. Claire, for your speech. Now, I'm thrilled to kick off Sartori Corporation's exciting annual gala..."
He enthusiastically laid out the evening's agenda, and the crowd below buzzed with excitement.
Jeffery's announcements set off a flurry of discussions.
"So, it's true Diana got five percent of the shares. If she were marrying Mr. Connor and using that as a dowry, it'd make sense. But now she's disabled and still gets shares-what's up with that?"
"Looks like Jeffery's got a soft spot for this newcomer daughter-in-law, telling everyone not to mess with her. Is he backing her?"
"Isn't it obvious why Jeffery said what he did? He's probably worried Claire will give them trouble once she's in charge, so he's throwing in shares and a warning."
"Yeah, everyone knows the eldest princess has been in the company for ages, and the shareholders are on her side. Jeffery's talk of a vote is just a way to pass the torch to her, right?"
"Mr. Connor didn't get the top spot, so he's looking at a future without much responsibility."
Amidst the chatter, Chloe felt a weight settling in her chest. Was it true what everyone was saying-that Jeffery already had a successor in mind? Was the shareholders' meeting just for show? Connor had mentioned that the board was stacked with Claire's allies, leaving him with little hope, hadn't he?
Jason's voice came through the speakers, "Now, let's welcome Mr. Connor and his wife, Miss Chloe, to open the dance floor for our grand banquet..."
Lost in thought, Chloe snapped back
to reality when she heard her name. Connor was in front of her, holding out his hand in invitation. The crowd around them naturally parted, forming a spacious dance floor with them at the center.
The lights above cascaded down like flowing tassels, and Chloe looked around, suddenly aware of her
surroundings. With a small smile et
she pushed her worries aside for now. Placing her hand in Connor's, she gracefully stepped onto the dance floor...
