Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover -
Chapter 769
All eyes zeroed in on the source of the commotion. A tall, striking man, with an air of confidence, casually made his way onto the stage. Chloe's jaw dropped for a split second when she recognized him-it was Connor. What on earth was he doing here?
Even Isaac, perched on the second floor, was caught off guard. He turned to his buddy, confused about when Connor had slipped away. Yet, amidst the surprise, a thrill ran through him. This was shaping up to be quite the spectacle. Still, a knot of worry formed in his stomach. Connor, the adored darling of the Sartori family, was more accustomed to boardrooms than boxing rings. How could he possibly take on someone like Grant?
Isaac hadn't expected to run into Chloe either. He'd just come to enjoy the drama, hoping it wouldn't turn into a disaster. He rushed downstairs as Chloe, bewildered, approached Connor. "What are you doing here?" she asked.
Connor didn't answer, didn't even look her way. His attention was on the host. "What are the rules here? Can anyone just step up and challenge the last winner?" he demanded.
The host hesitated, caught off guard. "Technically, yes, but..." But no one had ever dared to challenge twice in a row. Mr. Grant was a first-time challenger himself.
Connor's voice was unwavering. "I want to challenge him." His eyes locked onto Grant, leaving no doubt about his intentions.
The room fell silent for a beat, then erupted into a flurry of whispers. "What's going on today? The WBO never had this kind of drama!"
"Isn't it obvious?" someone whispered. "The guy's Connor Sartori, the King of Eldridge. And the lady, Ms. Chloe, is his wife. She lost to Grant, and now he's here to win back her honor."
"No way. Didn't you hear Chloe call Grant 'friend'? They seemed to have a special bond, fighting so seamlessly. I thought they were a couple!"
"Same here. Connor's just jealous, fighting for his lady's pride."
"I know Chloe's 'friend,' Ms. Claire from QUEEN Jewelry."
"Geez, has boxing become such an elite sport? How are us regular folks supposed to keep up?"
Chloe sensed something was amiss with Connor. He was furious, and it wasn't just a simple case of jealousy. An intense vibe of anger radiated from him. Chloe frowned, trying to piece together what was eating at him. It was one of those things that always made her uneasy. She had explained countless times
that she wouldn't sever ties with friends over his insecurities.
Tonight was supposed to be just a dinner with a group, including some designers. "Connor, don't be foolish," she pleaded.
Chloe didn't want a showdown, but Grant stepped forward, his tone cool. "Alright, I've been looking
foto sparring with Mr. Connor
from the Eldridge Elites."
The crowd buzzed with excitement. Chloe clutched Connor's arm. "Don't fight. He's been doing Sanshou for twenty years; not many can match him."
Connor shot Chloe a frosty glance. "So, in your eyes, he's unbeatable? We haven't even started, and you think I'll lose?"
Chloe didn't think Connor would
necessarily lose, but she knew this fight was a bad idea. In the three years they'd been together, Connor had been nothing but gentle and kind at home, yet he was the type to whine about sore hands after doing a bit of housework.
